Angela Davidson

As the Senior Designer in the Mathis Brothers Oklahoma City Design Center, Angela Davidson
holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in interior design from the University of Central
Oklahoma. While she is grateful for her education and for being certified in the American Society
of Interior Designers, Davidson says her greatest satisfaction comes from helping people.
“The National Council for Interior Design Qualification exam is one of the most exacting tests a
professional can take,” Davidson says, “but the look on a customer’s face when a job is complete
is truly heartwarming.”
Davidson admits her career can be demanding, but she is quick to point out that she loves the
challenge. “Part of what I love about Mathis Brothers is the fast pace and the exciting atmosphere.
The designers get to help people from all over the country with all kinds of lifestyles. That takes
imagination, energy and an appreciation for diversity.”
Davidson says that working on such projects as The Make A Wish Foundation’s Concept Home and the 35th Annual Symphony
Designers Show House really stretched her creative skills. “Having the freedom to design an ultra-contemporary room from
top to bottom in the Show House was a blast,” Davidson says with a warm smile. Davidson’s co-workers would add that it is
also impressive to see her rooms featured on the covers of magazines like Oklahoma City’s Downtown and NW Style.
Todd Stepp

For nearly two decades, Todd Stepp has experienced many exciting places and projects that
have been instrumental in his career as an Interior Designer expert at Mathis Brothers flagship location. “From buying trips to New York, to visiting furniture factories in the North Carolina
Mountains, to helping victims of hurricane Katrina, there’s always something going on at Mathis
Brothers,” Todd says with a smile. Most recently, he was asked to help with the
Make-a-Wish Foundation’s concept home and the Symphony Show Home. Both projects were
pivotal in Todd’s professional growth and were featured as full-color regional magazine covers
in Oklahoma City Downtown and NW Style. “We display those covers in the Mathis Brothers
Oklahoma City Design Center” Todd explains “and our team is very proud of them.”
Todd’s prolific background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from The University
of Central Oklahoma and an allied membership in the American Society of Interior Designers.
He currently manages the Waverly and Ralph Lauren lines and proudly accredits his professional growth to the “good fortune” he has experienced all these many years as an Interior Designer for the Mathis Brothers team.
Darlene Gardenhire
dgardenhire@mathisbrothers.com
Darlene Gardenhire, the newest addition to the Mathis Brothers Oklahoma City design team,
brings a rich creative background to her work. She is an award-winning artist and best-selling
author, as well as a prolific designer.
With 14 novels published worldwide in 22 languages, Darlene has appeared on numerous
bestseller lists and has won the Oklahoma Writer’s Federation highest award for the best novel
written by an Oklahoman. She has also garnered top state honors in the area of graphic arts.
She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The University of Oklahoma, with additional
courses in the field of interior design.
“I feel very blessed to be so creative,” Darlene says, “and I am thrilled that I can use that
creativity for the benefit of Mathis Brothers’ customers. I love fine furniture and I love helping
people achieve their dream space.” Darlene says she enjoys combining design theory and architectural principals with more
artistic approaches to create aesthetically pleasing and functional rooms. “I’ve been told I have a wonderful sense of place.
I believe place is important because the environment - the sum of color, light, form and function - affects the way we feel,
our energy level and our mood. I also think any space should serve the people who use it and not the other way around.”
Darlene says that working in the Mathis Brothers Design Center brings new and exciting challenges every day. “I’ve done
everything from an ultra-contemporary loft to a “Harry Potter” style library to the offices at Crossings Community Church. I
invariably find an inspiring piece or theme that helps the whole project come together. For example, I designed a family room
for one couple using colors from a portrait of the husband’s great-grandparents that I found leaning against a wall in their
back bedroom. That room turned out gorgeous... and the couple said it was extremely comfortable!”
Charlotte Bejvel
cbejvel@mathisbrothers.com
Charlotte Bejvel brings over 25 years of experience to the Mathis Brothers design team. She
has worked in hotel and resort design, residential design and home remodeling in locations
ranging from continental Europe to the Hawaiian Islands.
The native of Sweden says her childhood experiences influenced her classic style.
She grew up in the archipelagoes on the Baltic Sea and still maintains her family’s home as a
beloved vacation retreat in the small village of Monsteras. “I learned the peace and serenity
that a home can give you.”
Charlotte lived on the island of Maui in Hawaii for 30 years. Working on designs with people
from all over the world shaped her sense of sophistication. “I feel fortunate to bring this
wide range of experiences to Mathis Brothers and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with our
customers.” Bejvel’s designs flow beautifully from her rich background. An expert in color coordination, she incorporates
fundamental concepts like scale, shape and texture to create a positive, comfortable atmosphere, whether in a luxury
home or a lakeside cottage. Bejvel doesn’t rely on cookie cutter design and believes every space should be unique. “I like
to build a personal relationship with my clients so I can better understand their particular style and needs.” She spends a
lot of time thinking about her clients’ individuality.
“I love the way Barbara Barry says it, that designers should strive to create beautiful settings in which a gracious way of
life can unfold.”
