WB-1100 DIRECTV® HD CONVERTER MV/RT DIRECTV users require an HD Converter to access additional programming including HD on satellite 110°. Up to 2 HD converters max per satellite system. No KA-Band. Getting directv’s new hd channels KU-Band vs. KA-Band Up until very recently, mobile satellite television reception has come from KU-band satellites. With the increasing demand for greater programming options and the explosive growth in HD programming, the providers (DIRECTV®, DISH Network™ and Bell ExpressVU) have been forced to add additional satellites to support the growth trend. While DISH Network™ and Bell ExpressVu have added additional KU-band satellites, DIRECTV® launched 2 KA-band satellites and is beginning to transfer all of the HD programming to these 2 KA-band satellites (99° and 103°). They are claiming to soon offer customers over 100 HD channels. What does this mean for the RVer who is a DIRECTV® customer? Well, think of it as AM and FM on a radio – they are two different frequencies. The same goes for KU and KA. Different LNB’s are required to allow the reflector antenna to receive the KA-band signals. Therefore, any previous mobile satellite antenna WILL NOT be able to receive KA-band signals, even with current HD upgrades. Winegard continues to meet the needs of our customers by providing RVers with the only solution for maximum DIRECTV® HD programming. The TRAV’LER™ DIRECTV® Slimline KU/KA Automatic Multi-Satellite Antenna is equipped with a 5-LNB reflector making it capable of simultaneously receiving both KU-band (101°, 110° and 119°) and KA-band (99° and 103°) satellite television signals.
