Your Bridgman Library
Letter from the Director:
The library’s anniversary
celebration is in full
swing. Over 50 people
joined us for the ‘60s
potluck. We hope
more will join us for the
upcoming events. In
February, we mailed
a postcard of the
anniversary events
schedule January through June to everyone
in Bridgman. If you didn’t receive one, you
can pick on up at the library. We will mail out
the July through December schedule in June.
On that schedule, we have an Open House, a
road rally, a Christmas sing-along, and much,
much more. You can find detailed information
about anniversary events on our website and
in our newsletter.
Board Membership:
Randy Hill – President
Lane Kuypers – Vice President
Carol Siewert – Secretary
Dorothea Crocker -- Treasurer
Suzy Barnes – Trustee
Sue Janoskey – Trustee
Nancy John – Trustee
Aaron Noll -- Trustee
John Wilk-Trustee
Meetings are held the fourth
Tuesday of every month at 8:30
a.m. at the Bridgman Public
Library. Meetings are open to
the public. Main front doors will
be open for public access.
There are other ways to celebrate the library’s
anniversary besides attending an event. The
library staff and I are having great fun dressing
up in ‘60s fashions. A couple of days out of the
month, Ted puts on a skinny black tie, Cassandra
wears her hippie chick dress, and Denise teases
her hair to great heights. It’s a gas!
Emergency Closings:
If the Library must close, it will be
announced on the Library website
and posted in announcements on
WYTZ and WNDU.
And on the subject of clothes, you might
have noticed the letter jacket at the front
desk. It is on loan from John Wilk, BHS
class of 1961. If you have Bridgman
memorabilia that you would like to share,
please bring it in. Our Deb is a wiz at
displays. Be sure to check out her library
history display boards. Upcoming displays
will feature photos of downtown Bridgman
in the 1960s, and a Guess Who board with
high school yearbook photos of community
leaders.
Also don’t forget to check out items from our
special 1960s collection. The collection is
housed on the shelves near the magazines
and features music CDs, television
programs, movies, and books that were
popular back when the library was new.
Lastly, if you have a special memory of the
library, from any time not just the 60s, please
record it the library memory book that is near
the historical displays.
-Gretchen Evans, Director
Library Closings
The Library will be closed on
Monday, April 4 for inventory.

Children’s Programs
Parents, Early Literacy Begins with You!
Early literacy is what children need to know before they know how to
read and write. Some of these skills include developing fine motor skills
and understanding that a story has a beginning, middle and end. We
have expanded our Early Literacy Program at the library. Now in addition
to our Baby and Me, Toddler and Me, and Story Hour programs, we have
created simple activities for children to develop language and literacy
skills. These hands-on activities can be found in the Story House Area.
Each activity, complete with a parent information card, will be located in
small bins and are designed to build a different skill.
Ms. Tami’s Early Literacy Programs:
Baby and Me (ages 0-2) - Mondays at 10:45 a.m.
Toddler and Me (ages 3-5) - Tuesdays at 9:30 or 11:30 a.m.
Story Hour (ages 3-5) - Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.
