NORTHERN VIRGINIA HEBREW CONGREGATION
WELCOME TO NVHC’S
9TH ANNUAL SILENT AND LIVE AUCTION
Dear Friends,
This year’s auction theme, “A Time to Plant, Growing the Fruits of Community,” beautifully captures who
we are at NVHC, a community of givers. We give of our time. We give of our friendship. We give of our
hearts. We give of our prayers. We give of our hard earned money. We give of our belief in our Jewish
community and a better world today and in the future. What we receive in return for all this giving is a
deep sense of purpose and lives more meaningfully lived.
The auction is a community celebration, a party, and an important fundraiser for NVHC operations.
Please be generous and absolutely have a wonderful time!
I want to thank the auction committee for its hard work and dedication. I also thank everyone who has
donated, purchased advertising, underwritten the expenses of the auction, or purchased a raffle ticket. All
of these are integral to the success of the auction and the well-being of our community.
Sincerely,
David Selden
President, NVHC Board of Trustees

specifications and limitations carefully.
2
All auction items and services must be claimed or used within a year unless otherwise stated.
3
Unless so stated, restaurant certificates do not include tax or gratuity.
4
Unless specified, dates and times are to be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and
buyer. It will be the buyer’s responsibility to contact the donor about arranging for services or

5
Payment in full is required for all auction items on the night of the auction. Cash, checks, Visa,

6
NVHC reserves the right to change minimum bids or modify closing times. Following the minimum
bid, subsequent bids must be in the specified increments listed on the bid sheets. Bids less than
the required increments will not be accepted. An auction item may be withdrawn from auction
prior to bidding. In any dispute, NVHC’s decision is final.
7
Values shown for items being auctioned are estimates only, made in good faith, and are not
warranted by NVHC for tax purposes or for general value of the auctioned item. Descriptions are
made in good faith from information obtained from the donor and are not guaranteed. However, if
an item varies dramatically from our description, we will consider an adjustment in the bid price.
8
Normally, the amount by which the winning bid exceeds the fair market value of the item is
considered a tax deductible contribution. Check with a tax advisor for your own situation and for
details.
9
By his or her purchase, the buyer waives any claim for liability against NVHC and/or the donor of
the properties or services being auctioned. Neither NVHC nor the donor is responsible for any

THANK YOU
Creating and executing a Silent and Live Auction requires energy, commitment, time, talent, creativity,
and passion. We have been blessed to work with these incredible volunteers who each worked amazingly
th
hard to make the NVHC 9 annual Silent and Live Auction a great success. Although there are always
contributors who do more or less, every action by these marvelous volunteers was significant to create a
memorable evening growing the fruits of community, and we needed every one of you. On a personal
note, for us, the best part of being a team member with this group was getting to know you, creating new
friendships, bonds and learning so much about our remarkable community. Thank you so much for being
a part of this adventure and responding to the need to work together to achieve this special event.

ORGANIC GIVING
Like a garden, building a strong community requires careful planning, enriching, and nurturing. During the
live auction, you will have an opportunity to help grow and build NVHC’s programs and community
through our “Organic Giving” initiative.
Here’s how it will work. Rob Jolles, our auctioneer, will announce various giving levels. When you hear
the amount that’s right for you, just raise your catalog with your bidder number showing. A live auction
volunteer will record your donation. At the end of the evening, you will check out, and your donation will
be on your donor receipt.
It’s simple. It’s 100% tax deductible. And most importantly, your contribution will help NVHC sustain and
expand all the programs that make our community such a rich, warm environment for our growing Jewish
lives. Thank you.
