AT ARMS Sarah Talahongva Sa.tala05@gmail.com I'm a long time Copperstate Mustang Club member, having first joined the club in the fall of 1990. I had acquired a 1964-1/2 convertible earlier that year and wanted to get involved with fellow Mustangers. I had owned a K-code '65 Red Fastback in the mid 70's that I bought in Florida and took to Ohio in 1977. Unfortunately using that Mustang as a daily driver resulted in a big rust-in-progress affliction, so I sold that car and hoped to have another 'Stang in the future. Fast forward to the mid 1980's and I relocated to AZ after retiring from the Air Force, and started working for Motorola in Scottsdale. After a couple of years here I decided to get another Mustang, and since the sun always shines here, I decided to buy a convertible. And after having a Mustang again, it was time to join a club. Joining the CMC was an enlightening experience for me and I got involved in working at the club's shows...in particular, learning about judging. While I had originally wanted to keep the convertible as a driver since it was so cool as a weekend cruiser, I got the "Show It" bug, so a restoration was now in my plans. I continued to work the car shows and started helping judge more. More learning... which I applied to my restoration in progress. Well, I got the car done and ready for the club's show in Apr 1994, the Mustang's 30th Anniversary. With the help of several club members to put the final pieces together, I arrived at the show about 4:00 AM! Talk about meeting a deadline! The happy results were a big, shiny First Place Trophy! I was hooked! Over the subsequent few years, I dove into more involvement in the club as I served on show committees, laying out parking for the shows, more judging, serving as Chief Judge, and serving on the club's Board of Directors for two years. While I haven't been active for the last dozen years or so, my wife, Keya, and I have always retained membership. I recently started a restoration on a red 65 Fastback that had been Keya's dad's car when she was growing up. So I figured it's time to become active again and enjoying all that our Mustang hobby has to offer, including being acquainted with a great group of like-minded Pony Lovers! Happy Cruising to all! Ron Fall Show Fall Show Fall Show Still looking for volunteers to help with the fall show that is right around the corner. This will be a judged show, so we will need help with judging, setting up, tear down, registration, parking, manning the club trailer, and many more positions. Casino Del Sol Hotel & Casino. More information to follow Judging Tips With the fall show approaching, I thought I would give some tips to those that are entering their cars into the judging portion of the show or those that plan to attend a future MCA show. While this is not an MCA show where judges will be looking for correct color of bolts/parts and the authenticity of said parts, the judges will be looking at the condition of them. So if you can see the bolt or part so can the judges so take the extra time to clean the dirt in the corners or take the bolt out and give it a good cleaning with some very fine steel wool or I like to use Evaporust. It is sold at any auto store. Soak the part/bolt for about 24 hours and the rust will be gone. Good thing too is that Evaporust is eco-friendly. Judges will also be looking at all glass, so while your car is being judged make sure all windows are up and if you have a convertible top, that needs to be up as well. Once the judges are done, you can display the car as you like. The trunk will also be judged as well so take out what you don’t need the night before and only pack what you want to take with you to the show. Also judges will not be judging the undercarriage of your car at this show. So no need to worry about suspension parts, back of tires and backs of wheels, floor pans, etc. However depending on what category you enter your car in an MCA show, then those will be judged and at our fall show the sidewalls and the side of the actual wheels will be judged. On a side note, MCA is still looking to possibly phase out painting parts to match an original finish. IE phosphate an oil finish on bolts (dark gray). Right now no bolts in the engine bay can be painted a cast color (closest possible color to phosphate and oil) but all other areas of the car are ok for now. Also don’t forget about our interior of the car. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum, especially under the mats (and seats). You’d be surprised what can be hidden under there. Also take a moment to wipe down the brake and accelerator pedal. Once your at the show, the car isn’t going to move. If you have any additional questions or guidance on anything or want to judge at the next show, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
