Building on our major "Think of the Future - Consider Nature" green initiative that was launched
last year, "Time For A New Vision" takes this philosophy to the next stage in our real commitment
to producing genuinely cutting-edge energy saving and environmentally sustainable technologies that
can have a global impact.
We will continue to reduce the carbon footprint of our products and manufacturing processes and
keep encouraging everyone to think seriously and inventively about how their decisions and choices
can make a difference to the planet - with our collective futures in mind.
As always, I want to thank everyone involved and associated with Robe at every level for all the support,
ideas, energies and communications in these very exciting times. The resulting "Robe Family"
is a truly unique, special and highly valued reality.

trade show ever to date. It was preceded by the biennial
2011 International Distributor Conference, providing a perfect
opportunity for the Robe Family to meet, motivate and energise
and interact.
Frankfurt also saw the launch of the ROBIN MMX Spot - the next
generation of 1200W equivalent 'workhorse' fixtures, utilising
the Philips Platinum 35 lamp which has a very short arc and
consumes just 800 Watts of power. This is also expected to
be a best seller! Again, when combined with RobeꞋs refined
optics, this is intensely efficient, super-bright, and in reality, is
out-performing many 1200 Watt lamp based fixtures which have
a total power consumption of about 1600 Watts. At 25 Kgs,
the MMX is nearly half the weight of the previous flagship
1200 ColorSpotE AT series products. A unique Dual Graphics
Wheel is one of a host of exclusive creative features!
Keeping up the momentum, the ROBIN 300 LEDWash was also
launched at Frankfurt, offering the same technology and quality
engineering as the 600. So also was the ROBIN 600 PureWhite,
available in warm, day and smart (variable) versions and
specifically targeted at studios, film & TV productions, fashion
and car shows and other environments needing daylight
lighting levels.
The ROBIN 300 Series - including the ROBIN 300 Plasma Spot
and Wash - has become popular and well established in all
sectors, along with the larger ROBIN 600 Series, with its intense
Spot, Wash and Beam versions. Both offer numerous advantages
to rental and installation clients.

Welcome to another action-packed Robe Newsletter for 2010/11,
which highlights the prolific and diverse cross-section of shows,
events, installations and projects for which our products have
recently been specified and used worldwide...
Robe has taken its proactive product development policies
- embracing the concept of 'smaller-brighter-lighter' - to new
heights over the last 12 months with its ROBIN series and all
market sectors have improved and grown steadily.
The biggest Robe phenomenon in the last year was the launch
of the ROBIN 600 LEDWash moving head at PLASA, which rapidly
became the record-breaking fastest selling Robe fixture of all time.
Robe waited until the right LED technology was available before
launching the revolutionary LEDWash 600, which has arguably
become considered as 'the best' available.
The LEDWash 600 'wonder light' solved all the previous issues
associated with LED fixtures in one compact moving head
weighing just 10.6 Kg!
The combination of 37 Cree 10W multichip LEDs with their
completely homogenised light engine and Robe's superior optics
produce an array of bright and perfect colours, with no shadows
or hot spots, plus a full range of real whites - from 2.700– 8.000K
- a first for LED moving light technology. Other outstanding
features include the 15 – 60 degree zoom, individual control
of the three striking looking rings of LEDs and it's emulation
of classic tungsten behaviour including red effect and thermal
delay - all keys to the fixture's incredible success.
Prolight +Sound Frankfurt 2011 was Robe's most successful

Te l e vision
We have all pulled together through challenging times, working hard and harmoniously as a team to
40 – 41
expand steadily in all sectors and brought some seriously innovative products to the market.
- the UK's biggest boyband phenomenon (LD Dave Lee) and
the first tour to utilise LEDWash 600s on tour; a whole raft
of cutting-edge music festivals including Oxegen in Ireland,
Global Gathering in the UK and Exit in Serbia; the Miss South
Africa beauty pageant (LD Mauritz Jacobs); the Chantelle
Passionata catwalk show at the Salon International de la
Lingerie, Paris (LD Alex Junca)... plus tens of thousands
of others large and small all over the globe, every one of them
diverse and different in their own ways.
Installations continue to be eclectic and interesting - from
Australia to Azerbaijan, cruise ships to clubs, live to lounge,
cathedrals to castles, adult to ambient - Robe is a globally top
specified brand in all sectors.
The incredible "Robe Family" develops and grows. More people
and companies are investing energy and effort into creating
and maintaining special relationships and strong links with
design, production, rental, and distribution partners worldwide.
Anyone is welcome to participate in this fabulous phenomenon
which offers a profusion of possibilities and chances for
exploration, inspiration and involvement in some very cool
projects and collaborations.
Back in the Czech Republic, Robe's HQ and manufacturing base
continues to evolve and expand. A huge new demonstration
theatre has been built, with a high ceiling, full rigging facilities
and professional catering for guest events, demo and training
sessions.
Last but not least for this shortform news round-up... is that Robe
lighting has been appointed as the main sponsor of the 2013
Showlight Conference which will take place in the stunningly
beautiful Český Krumlov in south Bohemia, Czech Republic. This
will allow the delegates engaged in all aspects of lighting, visual
design, scenography, etc to get a snap-shot into the vibrancy,
dynamics, history and style of the Czech Republic.
INSTALLATIONS
It has been an amazing year for Robe! We have experienced healthy growth, seen our business
PLASA 2011 sees Robe keep up the pace and style of innovation,
launching the ROBIN 1200 LEDWash - a larger version for
seriously high brightness applications, and the ROBIN DLX Spot,
which will be the world first LED spot fixture utilising RGBW
technology and previews the upcoming ROBIN 'Sniper' - a mega
-bright fixture with a super-tight parallel 230 mm fat beam.
This is also complimented by a full range of Robe LED Wash
fixtures (CitySkape, CitySource) designed for internal and
external architectural illuminations.
Robe's design and manufacturing focus will continue to be on
producing smaller, lighter, and more power-efficient luminaires
with no compromises in the quality or brightness, vastly
increasing the value for money ratio. For the same budget,
more units can be spec'd, then transported to site in fewer
vehicles, where they can be rigged easier and on lighter weight
trussing.
Robe continues its strong commitment to being green and
raising awareness of environmental responsibilities. Last year
the "Think of the Future - Consider Nature" initiative was
launched, and this is now taken to the next level with "Time
For A New Vision".
In addition to the ongoing development of more eco friendly
products, Robe wants everyone to appreciate how their
informed choices and decisions can influence bigger forces and
ultimately contribute to helping preserve the planet.
Many large and challenging projects and productions have
utilised Robe products and solutions in creative and engaging
ways.

AIDA AT MASADA
Robe for "Aida at Masada" - Dead Sea & Jerusalem Opera Festival
Robe moving lights were the primary fixtures used for the Israeli OperaꞋs production of "Aida" at the 2011 Dead Sea & Jerusalem Opera Festival,
a collaboration with the Les Choragies dꞋOrange in France, staged in the amazing outdoor purpose built amphitheatre at the foot of Masada Mountain
by the Dead Sea, Israel. As with the first Masada Opera festival event in 2010 (VerdiꞋs "Nabucco"), for which the whole site was carved out of the
rocky desert terrain, lighting was created by Avi Yona Bueno (Bambi), with most of the performance lighting equipment supplied by UK based rental
company HSL, including all the Robes. Technical production for the whole site was co-ordinated by Tel Aviv based The Design Group, production
directed by Eyal Lavee.
Robe was specified because the fixtures fulfilled the design requirements precisely - with 96 of RobeꞋs most powerful 2500 series units chosen
because of the long throw distances of up to 80 metres - and because, as everyone discovered last year, they withstood the harsh desert operating
conditions, searing heat, dust and blustery wind. "They are great fixtures and have been brilliant throughout," stated HSLꞋs crew chief Ian Stevens.
Eighty of the 96 ColorSpot 2500E ATs were on two massive side stage left and right trussing gantries, with 16 on the front of house gantry at
the back of the bleacher seating. They worked hard and continuously right through the three and a half hour show, where they were used very
effectively for all the stage washing and cast coverage.
Twenty Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWashes were used to light four regal looking sphinx set pieces stage left and right. It was the first time that Bambi
had used LEDWash 600s on which he comments, "Fantastic - very bright and a good range of colours."
Twelve Robe RedWash 3●192s were rigged beneath the stage and set, utilised as strong back light sources for the entrance/exit door beneath
the 12 metre high PharaohꞋs head which was the main set centrepiece. Bambi had custom dot gobos fitted into 24 of the ColorSpots for the final
scene, one of several special customisations that enabled him to sculpt an intricate and intense lighting process to help the drama unfold onstage.
Aida at Masada was directed by Charles Roubaud and conducted by Daniel Oren. It ran for 10 nights and was enjoyed by 75,000 people, receiving
massive critical acclaim.

VASCO ROSSI
A Breath of Fresh Oxegen for Robe
Robe LEDWashes on Vasco Rossi Tour
Robe moving lights - supplied by Dublin based Just Lite - again proved
themselves to be a robust and reliable choice of moving light for any
festival situation, with over 100 used on the main stage, plus many more
around the site at the 2011 Oxegen Festival in County Kildare, Ireland.
Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWash moving lights were onstage with legendary Italian
superstar Vasco Rossi, as part of an amazing lighting and scenic video design
by leading Italian visuals designer, Giovanni Pinna, for RossiꞋs "Live Kom 011"
stadium tour.
True to form, the skies opened and it pelted with rain throughout
the first day of the event, turning the site at Punchestown Racecourse
into a slightly sticky, mud-tastic experience - without dampening any
of the fantastic vibes!
The highest profile festival in Ireland is promoted by the countryꞋs largest
concert and live event organisation, MCD. This year its stellar line-up
featured the Black Eyed Peas, Foo Fighters and Coldplay headlining the
main stage, plus several other incendiary performances including an epic
homecoming set by local heroes The Script.
Pinna has been working with the artist - a prolific singer/songwriter, often
controversial and the most popular live performer in Italy, considered a God
by his fans - for the last 20 years, each time coming up with a new, fresh and
completely different look and feel to the stage and setting.
This time his elegant, hugely dynamic 37 metre high, 3-level, portrait format
architectural set structure was based around the concept of ꞋverticalityꞋ.
It included large quantities of scenic LED panels and a substantial lighting rig,
of which the 24 Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWashes were an integral element.
Robes were chosen for many reasons - but primarily because of their
rugged construction and reliability in potentially tough weather situations historically, it rains for at least one day of this festival.
"The Robes are absolutely brilliant in bad weather - they are built for
festivals," confirms Just Lite crew chief, Liam McCarthy, impressed with
how they just keep on going no matter how damp it is.
These were rigged on two staircases one each side of the stage, ensconced
between four 9 metre high side-stage lighting pods. The 600 LEDWashes were
focussed on the band and the stage area immediately around them. Pinna
wanted "a lightsource that was extremely bright and powerful to give a seriously
punchy ꞋbumpꞋ effect for my accents and punctuations to the music." With
RossiꞋs show being a full on rockꞋnꞋroll spectacle, there is no shortage of this!

OXEGEN
Robe LEDWash 600s Go Stereosonic
Lighting designer Matthew Smith used Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWash fixtures
and other Robe moving lights on the main stage at the 2010 Stereosonic
dance festival, staged at the Showgrounds Main Arena, Sydney, Australia.
The 18 x 12 metre main stage structure and lighting was supplied by
leading rental company Clifton Productions, one of the first companies
in the country to take delivery of the LEDWash 600 moving light - RobeꞋs
most popular and fastest selling product ever!
Now in its 4th year, StereosonicꞋs biggest line up to date was headlined by
Tiesto, with other amazing main stage performances by Carl Cox, Sebastian
Ingrosso, Calvin Harris, Benny Benassi and many more.
The LEDWash 600s were positioned near to the DJ riser and used to light
it and the stage with an all-action array of fabulous colours and movement
effects to keep pumping with the music and the great vibes. Also on the rig
were 18 Robe ColorSpot 700E ATs and 6 x REDWash 3●192s.
CliftonsꞋ systems tech Mike Parsons states, "We love the new ROBIN
LEDWash 600s! ItꞋs the first time we have seen such a small fixture with
a large zoom and uniform colour throughout its entire beam path".
DANCE EVENT
Recent Dance Event in Itegem
Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWashes and ROBIN 600E Spots showed how an expedient
amount of hugely versatile lighting fixtures can go a long way at Dance Event
in Itegem, Belgium.
The 6000 capacity annual hardcore house extravaganza consisted of one main
arena with lighting designed by Patrick Bellens from "The Creative Factory".
The equipment was supplied by L&L Stage Service from Herentals. The Creative
Factory is focused on creative event design and event production. Patrick
Bellens and David Smeets are qualified lighting designers and board operators
for all kind of events, while Bart Weyts is the operational/project manager
on-site (crew-chief) and is also a director and manager of rental company, L&L
Stage Service.
For this yearꞋs Dance Event, they used 16 x ROBIN 600 Spots and 16 x ROBIN
600 LEDWashes. With only 32 moving lights to illuminate the whole arena it
would sometimes be a challenge to keep everything looking different, interesting and visually stimulating for several hours of non-stop performance…. But…
not using these fixtures!!
"These Robe fixtures certainly gave us the creative scope we needed to keep it
looking fresh and different throughout the event," declares Weyts.

Limao Com Mel DVD Shoot
SLAGER
Slager Festival in Kortrijk
Brazilian electric forro superstars Limao Com Mel (Lemon with Honey)
recorded a live DVD in front of 15,000 fans in the Chevrolet Hall at Recife
Antigo in Pernambuco, north-west Brazil, which was lit with over 100 Robe
moving lights, supplied by Sao Paolo based Apple Productions.
The 2011 Slager Festival was staged in the Expo Hall in Kortrijk, Belgium, with
lighting designed by Pieter Vermeersch and based around 24 x Robe ROBIN
600 Spots, 16x Robe ColorWash 575E ATs and 4x Robe ColorSpot 1200E ATs, all
supplied by 4U-Renting from Zwevegem.
The bandꞋs lighting designer is Pablo Levrao, and Francisco "Pincel" Gabriel
from Apple Productions was the DoP. The DVD production company was
Jota Eme and the shoot was directed by Ailton de Souza. Edivaldo "Magoo"
Dias was the showꞋs production manager, and the person responsible for
co-ordinating all the lighting, sound and video equipment.
The popular one day event features Flemish folk music from multiple artists and
is attended by about 4000 people.
4U-Renting first bought Robe moving lights in 2006 and have been using them
constantly for a wide selection of shows and events ever since.
Vermeersch comments "Robe has proved to be the most reliable moving light
brand I have ever used!"
The lighting rig featured 110 Robe fixtures in total, comprising 24x ColorSpot 700E ATs, 48x ColorSpot 1200E ATs, 8x ColorSpot 2500E ATs, 24x
ColorBeam 700E ATs and 6x ColorWash1200E ATs.
This is ideal news for a hire company, and apart from being excellent rental
items, Robe also satisfies all his creative requirements.
These were arranged on 160 metres of overhead trusses rigged in the venue
– 86 in the air, with 24 units on the floor – 8 of the ColorBeam 700s,
8 ColorWash 1200s and 8 ColorSpot 1200s. The lights were used for
creating a whole variety of looks and atmospheres, from potent rear beam
effects to dramatic wide panoramas for the cameras, basic stage washing
and fundamentals like key lighting and specials.
Lighting for the 20 metre wide stage at Slager Festival was rigged onto a large
ground support system with a continuous curved truss around the back and
the sides of the stage. The Robes were dotted all over this curved truss, with
ColorWashes around the top and the ColorSpots/ROBIN 600 Spots at different
heights on the legs - to get a good spread of wash lighting across the stage and
some dynamic Ꞌscene changingꞋ back-lighting.

LIMAO COM MEL
Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWashes
for Söhne Mannheims tour
Leading German lighting designer Gunther Hecker used 22 Robe ROBIN
600 LEDWashes as key fixtures for the spring 2011 Die Söhne Mannheims
European tour.
The popular German band have massive energy and dynamics
encompassing a myriad of musical genres including rap RꞋnꞋB soul, hip
hop and rock, all fused into a unique and very distinctive style. Söhne
Mannheims is also one of many ongoing projects for prolific German
singer/songwriter/musician, Xavier Naidoo. Hecker has worked with Söhne
Mannheims since 1999, and has been a Robe fan since first using the 2500
Series soon after its launch in 2006.
He needed the Söhne Mannheims rig to be hugely flexible, and so chose
LEDWashes as the main fixtures. These were all floor based - for ultimate
versatility and adaptability.
In the full size stage format, all 22 of the LEDWashes were located along
the back just forward of the backline, and around the sides and across the
front of stage. An expedient overhead rig - 6 bars of 6 x PARs - and the PA
was flown from a 6-legged ground support system.
PRIME CIRCLE
Robe ROBIN 300
Delivers for Prime Circle
Johannesburg, South Africa based MJ Event Gear supplied full technical
production - including their new Robe ROBIN 300 Wash and Spot moving lights
- for a recent corporate event at JohannesburgꞋs Montecasino, featuring a live
set by leading SA rock band, Prime Circle.
The eventꞋs lighting designer, Johnny Scholtz, chose the 8 x ROBIN 300 Washes
and 8 x ROBIN 300 Spots for their small size and high output and because they
fitted perfectly into the stage space.
The units were rigged around a 10 metre wide by 8 metre deep ground support
system that was installed for the event, and delivered a fabulous range of colour
and beam effect for Prime CircleꞋs set.
They were also used as an integral part of the eventꞋs general lighting system,
operated by Scholtz on a WholeHog II console.

MANNHEIMS
First Robe LEDWash 600s
on the Road with JLS tour
The very first batch of Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWash fixtures off the production
line in the Czech Republic was delivered to leading UK lighting rental
company HSL. From there, 40 went straight out on the JLS UK arena tour,
specified by lighting designer Dave Lee.
Brit Award winning JLS are the UKꞋs favourite boyband, with their meteoric
career kicking off after being runners up on the 2008 X-Factor talent show.
When Dave Lee was choosing his fixtures he specifically needed some very
bright and lightweight units for certain tasks - for which the LEDWash 600
proved the perfect solution.
Twenty were used to light a catwalk approximately 120 ft long that flew
in from the roof and hovered just above the audience for a whole section
of the show. The LEDWash 600s were rigged high up on a truss that
lowered and tracked a car in from the roof and out into the audience at
the start of the show. This was already heavily loaded with the car and
associated flying and rigging kit, so any lights had to be extremely light
in weight!
The other 20 LEDWash 600s were attached to ladder trusses, 10 a side,
flanking a massive 80ft wide by 30ft high (1140 active tiles) upstage
Stealth video screen. Lee was delighted with the LEDWash 600s.
NEW AGE
Robe Bowls Everyone Over
at New Age Friendship Concert
Robe moving lights were at the core of Tim DunnꞋs fabulous lighting, scenic
and visual design for the New Age Friendship Celebration Concert in Moses
Mabhida Stadium, Durban, South Africa. This Bollywood spectacular followed
the Standard Bank International Pro20 cricket tournament between India and
South Africa. It was a visual extravaganza of immense proportions that also
celebrated the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in Africa, televised
live worldwide on ESPN to an audience of several million. The stage architecture
was based around symbols and shapes from Africa and India, topped with
a ꞋcalabashꞋ style structure made from 16 curved trussing ꞋribsꞋ, flanked by
3 minaret style stretched fabric domes each side. To maximise site lines,
the stage had no roof - a big risk in a season where rain was highly likely,
so Dunn specified Robe moving lights because he knew they would be
reliable and resilient in rain and damp conditions. He used a selection
of RobeꞋs powerful ColorSpot and ColorWash 2500E ATs - ideal for the long throw
distances - together with Robe REDWash 3●192s and ROBIN 300 Spots and
Washes. His brief was to produce a lightshow to match the razzmatazz, glitter and
glamour of the occasion, headlined by Indian megastar, Shah Rukh Khan. Full
technical production was supplied by Gearhouse South Africa.
Dunn has also used Robe fixtures on numerous other high profile shows
- including the 2010 and 2011 South African Music Awards (SAMAs), the 2010
METRO FM Music Awards and the Closing Ceremony of the 2010 FIFA Soccer
World Cup.

SUMMER NIGHT
Robe Makes Summer Night Impact at Schönbrunn Palace
Lighting designer Helmut Krammer used over 100 Robe fixtures - a mixture of moving lights and units from RobeꞋs innovative LED series - for the 2011
Summer Night Concert, performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the beautiful Baroque gardens at Schönbrunn Palace, one of the most
important cultural monuments in Austria, which created a stunning backdrop.
The event was attended by 150,000 people and broadcast by ORF to approximately 60 other countries. KrammerꞋs challenges included lighting
the huge area being used to stage the event, creating a sense of spectacle, illuminating the orchestra in an appropriate way for both broadcast
and live audience, and generally bringing additional magic, ambience and WOW factors to the performance with the lighting, some of which was
required to cover very wide distances.
The lighting rental company for the event was film and TV specialists LGL Lichttechnik GmbH from Vienna, and the Robes were supplied by two leading
European rental companies - Q-99 from Slovakia and HSL from the UK. The Robe kit included 20x CitySkape Xtremes, 12x ColorWash 2500E ATs, 30x
ColorSpot 1200E ATs, 20x ColorWash 1200E ATs - 14 with PC lenses and 6 with fresnel lenses - and 24x ColorBeam 2500E ATs. The Robes were
deployed in 5 different areas around the extensive gardens for the show.
Krammer operated the show using two Road Hog Full Boar consoles and was absolutely delighted with the results. "Working with Robe products is
especially interesting for me with the wide product range - there is a fixture for every application, and itꞋs great to have that choice and versatility
available," he enthuses. He was well impressed with the power and impact of the 2500 range and particularly the ColorBeams, which he recalls
caused some consternation with those techꞋing the searchlight fixtures as they saw and appreciated the output! He also enjoyed the high level
of support from Robe, whose international sales team and rental partners helped make it happen. His show has received great critical acclaim and
using the Robes on such a high profile event has fuelled plenty of ideas for the future, where he will be using Robe wherever possible.

CATWALK
Robe LEDWash 600s
have the Passion in Paris
Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWash moving lights were specified by lighting
designer Alex Junca to light a catwalk show on the booth of leading
lingerie brand Chantelle-Passionata at the Salon International de la Lingerie
exhibition in Paris. The 3 day trade show is a landmark on the lingerie
industry calendar and took place at the Paris Expo, Port de Versailles, with
lighting equipment for the Chantelle-Passionata stand supplied by Paris
based rental company, Impact Evènement.
Junca - also a renowned Director of Photography - wanted a bright, low
powered fixture with a fabulous array of pastels and a full range of ꞋrealꞋ
whites at different colour temperatures. Having used ROBIN 600 LEDWashes
on two previous events in Paris, he knew they would be a great solution.
For Chantelle-Passionata, he helped create a unique ambience for the booth
which melded postmodernist pin-up and pop art aesthetics – reflecting the
cheeky individuality and sassy sexiness of the top brandꞋs latest collection.
The light pollution immediately around the stand was a major problem.
This was also around 6000K, so he used the LEDWash 600Ꞌs variable
colour temperature range to restore it to between 2.700 - 8.000° K along
the runway. "This feature is an indispensable tool specially for film and
video capture" he says.
Robe Bring Cities to Life at Russian
World Expo Pavilion, Shanghai
Over 100 Robe moving lights and 500 Anolis LED fixtures were supplied by
Moscow based Light Sound Contractor(LSC) for the "Colorful Neighborhoods
for a Better City" area of the Russian Federation Pavilion at the Shanghai World
Expo. The stunning lighting design and sophisticated lighting, sound and video
control for this award winning pavilion were engineered by LSCꞋs Denis Lyapunov
and Alexey Pereverzev based on a concept from leading Russian set and scenic
designer Boris Krasnov, who created the general design of the Russian
Federation Pavilion.
Over the course of the Expo, which ran May to October, the Russian Pavilion was
one of the most popular out of over 200 exhibits, seeing a total of 7.5 million
visitors pass through the double storey environment over the 6 months.
The highly imaginative lighting scheme enhanced the magical aura of the space
and helped it Ꞌcome aliveꞋ as a stimulating and enjoyable section of the exhibition.
The 122 moving lights were a combination of RobeꞋs ColorSpot and ColorWash
700E ATs - dotted all around the space illuminating all elements of the complex
set in rich and vibrant colours. RobeꞋs 700 Series fixtures were specified for their
convenient size, extreme brightness and host of features and effects.

EXPERIENCE
Robe For Miller Experience in Durban
The Miller Experience Event in Durban, South Africa was a hugely successful
dance/DJ event for 5000 people, staged at the Durban Exhibition Centre,
Kwazulu Natal. It was organized by East Coast Productions, who were also
technical suppliers, with Miller Genuine Draft as the main sponsor.
The spectacular lighting rig was designed by East CoastꞋs Jacques Marais.
It utilized Robe moving lights as its workhorses - a mix of Robe ROBIN
600 Beams, ROBIN 300 Beams, Robe ColorSpot 1200E ATs and ColorSpot
250E ATs.
The exciting artist line up featured hi-energy sets from DJs Fresh and
Euphonik, Roger Goode, Gareth Cliff, Sasha Martenigo, Grant Nash and
Sam Boylan. The lighting centrepiece was a 6 metre diameter moving
trussing circle suspended above the audience, loaded up with the ROBIN
300 and 600 Beams, described by Marais as "Amazing", together with the
ColorSpot 1200E ATs.
The ColorSpot 250E ATs were positioned on two H-shaped trusses
suspended over the dancefloor, along with other fixtures. MaraisꞋ concept for
the lighting design was to make a big visual impact and create an immersive
environment. East Coast Productions first purchased Robe products in 2010.
They wanted "Quality, reliability and excellent after-sale service" all of which
were found in Robe and their South African distributor, DWR.
Robe Lights La Grace with Style
Robe lighting was invited by the Czech Consulate in Athens, Greece, to create
a special lighting scheme for the official launch of "La Grace", a replica of the
famous 17th century corsair (pirate) ship captained by Czech seafarer Augustin
Heřman, which took place in the exclusive and picturesque harbour at Flisvos
Marina, Athens.
The vessel has been lovingly recreated by a group of Czech enthusiasts in
a shipyard in Suez, Egypt, which still uses historic and traditional building methods.
The new La Grace will serve a multi-functional role as a sea cadet training
facility and a worldwide tourist attraction. Robe jumped at the opportunity
to be involved in such an amazing project!
The major part of La GraceꞋs hull and the sails were illuminated by 4 Robe
CitySkape Xtremes positioned on the quayside. The 2 masts - made from trees
sourced in the Moravian highlands near to RobeꞋs factory, were up-lit by 4x Robe
CitySource 96s.
The decks and 4 replica cannons were bathed in light from 4x CitySkape 48s,
and the ꞋspankerꞋ sail at the back was used as a projection surface, fed with
images by a Robe DigitalSpot 7000 DT rigged on a stand on the quayside.

FILM FESTIVAL
Robe Lights Key Events
at 51st Zlin Film Festival
Robe supported the 51st ZLÍN FILM FESTIVAL - for Children and Youth in Zlin, Czech Republic, the oldest and one of the largest young peopleꞋs film
festivals worldwide. It attracts over 100,000 visitors to see nearly 600 films
from more than 50 countries, screened over 8 days.
This year the main screening venue was the new Congress and University
Centre, designed by Eva Jiricna Architects. RobeꞋs team highlighted Film
Festival branding around the exterior using Anolis ArcLine multi-chip LED
fixtures, and also lit a Skoda Super vehicle - Skoda was a main sponsor - on
display with 4x Anolis ArcSource 96s.
In front of the building, a 20 metre long, 6 metre high metal structure holding
flags from all the participating countries was spectacularly lit with 4x Anolis
ArcPad Xtremes for the whole Festival.
Other events receiving RobeꞋs magic touches included: The 2011 Festival
Awards Ceremony, staged in the Congress HallꞋs main auditorium and
broadcast live on national TV channel, CT1; the prestigious Skoda VIP Party
held in the atrium of the newly opened Baltaci Hotel - with lighting design by
HUCOT- a collective of independent young artists focused on visual work; main
general sponsor Synot TipꞋs party and the Final Film Party, which followed
a gala dinner for 2500 guests at ZlinꞋs famous Film Studios.

Rock the Rock
Robe CitySkape Xtreme and CitySource 96 LED wash lights were used to
illuminate the picturesque and iconic Hanging Rock, near the townships
of Woodend & Mount Macedon in Victoria, Australia as an already beautiful
natural environmental feature became an extra special backdrop for a concert
by legendary singer-songwriter, Leonard Cohen.
The concert lighting – on an open air stage in front of the rock face - was
supplied by Melbourne & Sydney based Frontier Touring, who proposed that the
rock itself was integrated into the eventꞋs lighting scheme. They needed a high
powered lightsource that drew minimal power and offered low environmental
impact on the surrounding flora and fauna.
Enter RobeꞋs CitySkape Xtreme - a powerful LED wash light that met all
the criteria. The six CitySkape Xtreme fixtures were positioned in bushland
behind the stage about 50 metres apart, with the longest throw distance
another 105 metres to the rocks.
Smaller Robe CitySource 96 units were used for one section, fitted with barn
doors for precise shuttering and colour matched to the Xtremes. The Xtremes
were fitted with 24 degree lenses on the bottom panel and 8 degrees on the top
for accurate focusing and covering the entire exposed rock face.

600 LEDWashes for 4 high profile gala dinners staged at the Dome, Sydney
Showground, Australia, produced by Blake Harris of Triumph Leisure Solutions
(tls) for 9000 delegates from the Amway China Incentive.
It was one of the biggest and most spectacular corporate events recently
staged in Australia and one of SydneyꞋs biggest business events for 2011.
With creative input from David Atkins and Ignatius Jones - visual imagineers
of many spectaculars including the amazing opening and closing ceremonies
of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver - the whole environment was
transformed into an undersea experience for the Amway dinners.
Andy Mutton was the lighting designer. His rig included 50x Robe ColorSpot
and 50x ColorWash 2500E ATs, 50x ColorSpot 1200s as well as the 80 LEDWash 600s and 20 x Robe REDWash 3●192s. In addition to illuminating
8 stages of live action (up to 6 running simultaneously) and the room for the
dinner, he had to highlight a series of custom props, acrobats, roving and
aerial performers. Most of the lighting - including 48 x Anolis ArcPADs - plus
lots of generics, strobes, etc - was hung on an intricate network of flown
trusses.
BMW Ball
Lighting designer Dave Jackson of Phaseshift Productions specified over 40
Robe moving lights - including 24 of the new ROBIN 600 LEDWash Ꞌwonder
lightsꞋ for the celebrity clad 11th Annual Bruce Lynton BMW Charity Ball - one
of the most exciting events on AustraliaꞋs Gold Coast social calendar.
The event was held at RACV Royal Pines Resort, for which the massive
main foyer was illuminated by 6 Anolis ArcPad Xtremes, positioned inside on
the mezzanine area covering about 600 square metres. The night began with
a spectacular fireworks display to welcome over 600 guests and VIPs.
The 24 Robin 600 LEDWash fixtures lit the main stage for the gala dinner,
providing great coverage and a plethora of creative options for lighting live sets
by singer Jon Stevens and local band, The Accidents. Jackson comments that
he was "Very impressed" with the LEDWash 600s, which, along with the rest
of the lighting equipment, was supplied by Phaseshift Productions.
Over the last 10 years, the annual Bruce Lynton Charity Ball has raised over $1.2
million Australian dollars. Everyone attending the 2011 event gave generously
to the charity which supports The Cancer Council, Guide Dogs, Surf Life Saving

QUADRENNIAL
Robe Supports 2011
Prague Quadrennial
Robe lighting supported the 12th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design
and Space (PQ for short), by supplying moving lights and technical assistance
for the prestigious 2011 PQ Awards ceremony, staged in the National TheatreꞋs
New Stage auditorium.
The Awards celebrated some of the most creative and innovative work and
practitioners from the world of theatre, film and live arts. Equal space was
given to street art, site specific interventions, socially engaged performance
and puppet theatre as well as conventional forms of theatre.
Attended by thousands of international visitors, the 10 day PQ symposium
examined various technical and creative aspects of theatre and performance
design (scenography) in the context of contemporary trends in this and
other art and cultural disciplines. Robe supplied 10 ROBIN 600 LEDWashes
and 10 ROBIN 600 Spots to help light the Awards ceremony.
RobeꞋs programmer Ales Gill and technician Tomas Bierza worked closely
with AwardsꞋ lighting designer, Felice Ross from Israel on the show. The Robe
fixtures were rigged above the stage and used for washing the space, for
general down lighting and colouration. They added dynamics and flexibility,
augmenting the theatreꞋs existing generic lighting rig, ensuring that
the Awards show had the option of some special visual treatments.
Australian Motor Show Melbourne
Clifton Productions supplied a large quantity of Robe moving lights for the 2011
Australian International Motor Show, staged at Melbourne Convention and
Exhibition Centre, receiving nearly 200,000 visitors. The Clifton team designed
and lit several high profile stands including Holden and Maserati, and supplied
lighting equipment to Toyota and Lexus.
The Holden stand featured 49 x Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWash fixtures used for
the main booth lighting. The new Holden Colorado 4x4 vehicle was launched,
with the new Holden Barina and Holden Cruze hatchback also prominent, and
the LEDWashes playing a key role in creating a big dynamic show for press
day. The LEDWashes were placed all around the booth. The new vehicles all
had circular trussing pieces flown immediately above, each rigged with either
6 or 8 LEDWashes, making great visual effects in their own right and allowing
the lights a fully flexible focus range around the booth.
The Toyota stand was lit with lots of Robe ColorSpot 2500E ATs to Ziggy
ZieglerꞋs design, who also unleashed his imagination on the Lexus stand, this
time using ROBIN 600 LEDWashes. The Maserati stand also featured Robe
ColorSpot 2500ATs.
The various clients were all delighted with the effects of using the Robes
reports CliftonꞋs Warren Maher, adding "The 600 LEDWash is an ideal unit for
this application".

REAL STAR
Robe is the Real Star in Sri Lanka
Nearly 170 Robe moving lights - including 64x ROBIN 600 LED Washes used
for the first time in Sri Lanka - joined 5 contestants centre stage in the grand
finale of the "Ranaviru Real Star" (RRS) TV show, staged in the Sugathadasa
Indoor Stadium, Colombo, the second largest stadium in Sri Lanka.
VIPs included H.E. President Mahinda Rajapaksha, and it was also televised
live on national TV channel Rupavahini and beamed to 150 other countries.
The hugely popular TV show initially attracted 20,000 musically talented
individuals in the Sri Lankan armed forces, who applied in the hope of finally
battling it out onstage for the coveted title. Lighting was designed by
Mohamed Hussain and Mohamed Maznavi of Colombo based rental company,
MOS Sound & Light (PVT) Ltd, who specified the Robe fixtures.
Service providers in the country offering premium European brands have
a greater chance of winning high profile tenders, and this was one reason
for their first investments into Robe. "Robe products were specified for their
quality, reputation and the prestige they can bring to an event," qualifies
Hussain.
The fixture list included 64x ROBIN 600 LEDWashes, 32x ROBIN 600E Spots,
12x ROBIN 600E Beams, 12x ROBIN 300E Beams, 32x ColorSpot 575E ATs
and 12x ColorWash 575E ATs.
Robe Lights Miss South Africa
The 2010 Miss South Africa final at Sun City Superbowl featured Robe moving
lights supplied by Johannesburg based Dream Sets for a lighting design by
Mauritz Jacobs.
The stage and set was designed by Dewet Meyer, featuring gently layered steps
and an upstage portrait LED screen flanked by 6 columns of LED. Jacobs took
this as his starting point for the lighting design, which had to be dynamic,
interesting and individually themed of the various sections of the pacey show.
Broadcast live on MNET, the pressure was on to produce a show perfectly
balanced for cameras, whilst also delivering razzamatazz and spectacle for
the 3500 live audience.
The lights were positioned on 6 trusses of varying lengths rigged above
the stage, the longest being 30 metres.
The moving lights were exclusively Robe, with 16x ColorWash 2500E ATs,
16x ColorSpot 700E ATs (including 6 on the floor), 6x Robe ColorWash 700E ATs
and 6x ColorBeam 700E ATs.
Jacobs has been using Robe fixtures since 2006 and likes the brand very much,
"They are completely reliable," he says... "I know they will just work continually
with no problems, and they have all the functionality you need for any show".

X-FACTOR
SS Lights The X-Factor
SS Lights is a rental company based in Mumbai that owns about 120 Robe
moving lights, primarily ColorSpot 1200s and ColorWash 575s.
They first purchased Robe about 5 years ago, initially because they
wanted a tough, well made product that would last a long time and also
because they realised the many opportunities that having a premium
brand onboard would bring to the table. SS Lights was founded and is
run by Ulhas Sahasrabuddhe and has been operational for an impressive
20 years.
Ulhas has just bought another set of Robe ColorSpot 1200 ATs from
RobeꞋs Indian distributor Integrated Entertainment Solutions (IES)
specifically to go on to the current X-Factor show, which is being
produced by Freemantle Media and recorded at Film City studios in
Mumbai, with lighting designed by Alankar. It is the first year they have
lit the Indian version of the show, and Alankar came up with the lighting
scheme after visiting X-Factor in the UK. While the basic look and tone
of the lighting and set is derivative of a generic look and feel as stipulated
by Freemantle Media, within this, there is some scope to use elements
that are initiated by the locally available lighting kit. He is using 70 x Robe
ColorSpot 1200 ATs to light the series which started in June.
Robe is the Right Word
For Reazione A Catena
Over 90 Robe moving lights including ROBIN 600 LEDWashes were the core
lighting fixtures for the latest series of "Reazione A Catena" (Chain Reaction),
a popular Italian games show based on contestants finding hidden words,
recorded at 15 Cinecittà Studios in Rome for RAI TV. Lighting was designed by
Massimo Castrichella, one of ItalyꞋs leading TV LDs.
The set was based around a completely spherical auditorium with a small stage
and curved seating, with lighting rigged on three circular overhead trusses and
runs of linear truss also in the roof.
The rig included 40 LEDWash 600s - a first time use for Castrichella - along with
18x ROBIN 600 Beams which were positioned on the floor onstage behind the
contestants, and utilised for very intense beam looks and fabulous wide angle
camera candy. For general and task lighting, 36x Robe ColorSpot 700E ATs were
hung at the back and around the sides of the studio, and four Robe Haze 400
FT machines added atmospheric enhancement.
Castrichella has been using Robe products for about 7 years now, and is his
moving light brand "of choice". Furthermore, he thinks the ROBIN 600 Beam
is "the best beam luminaire" on the market at the moment.

MISS SLOVAKIA
Robe Lights Miss Universe
Slovakia 2011
Lighting designer Martin Kubanka specified Robe moving lights for the 2011
Miss Universe Slovak Republic beauty pageant, staged in the Sibamac Arena,
Bratislava, and broadcast live on the main national TV channel, RTVS.
SlovakiaꞋs leading rental company Q-99 supplied lighting, sound and AV
production for the event, with Kubanka clocking up an impressive 13 years
of lighting the show. Using Robe fixtures, all the creative tools he has needed
have been on hand to ensure the reinventing and refreshing of the show
year on year!!
"I have not yet run out of new things to discover in using the Robes, and
I have never stopped experimenting," he explains.
This year, the LED-orientated set was designed by Michael Klang. The Robes
were a mix of 46x ColorSpot 1200E ATs, 18x ColorWash 1200E ATs, 18x
ColorSpot 575E ATs and 16x ColorMixes, mostly dotted all across a large
overhead trussing grid with some on the floor.
They were the work-horses of the rig and all had multifunctional roles – for
general lighting as well as for specials and set washing. They were also used
to create atmosphere, mood and ambience, and to provide contra-lighting
for the TV Ꞌwhite lightsꞋ.
Robe on German Idol
Lighting designer Manuel da Costa used RobeꞋs most powerful series of moving
lights – ColorSpot, ColorWash and ColorBeam 2500E ATs – as key fixtures on
his rig for the latest series of German Idol (Deutschland sucht den Superstar).
This was recorded in Studios 30/31 at the Coloneum complex in Cologne and
broadcast live on national TV channel RTL in a prime time Saturday night slot.
Da Costa has lit the show (this was the 8th series) since the start, in that time
seeing the demands become increasingly sophisticated. Over 9 shows in the
series, he had to programme for about 120 different songs and performances…
ensuring each one looked interesting, fresh and unique for the competitors,
the 1,300 live audience and several million TV viewers.
Robe fixtures were originally planned and specified for German Idol by Cologne
based design house MO2, whose Mathias Alhoff created the lighting scheme.
A total of 42x Robe ColorSpot 2500E ATs, 22 x Robe ColorWash 2500s and 12x
Robe ColorBeam 2500E ATs were in the rig, supplied by rental company Magic
Light & Sound of Cologne.
The ColorSpots formed the main backbone of the system, chosen for their intense
brightness, so lighting had an impact amidst the many LED surfaces.

OTO AWARDS
Robe Lights OTO Awards, Slovakia
The 2010 OTO (Osobnost Televiznej Obrazovky) Awards were staged at
the New National Theatre in Bratislava, and celebrated the very best in
Slovakian television from 2010, acknowledging talent, skills and innovation
for all areas from news reporting and sports presentation to documentary,
comedy and drama.
The star-studded event was televised live on SlovakiaꞋs main national
channel, RTVS, and lit by the countryꞋs top TV lighting designer Martin
Kubanka, who used Robe moving lights at the core of his rig. Lighting,
sound and AV equipment was supplied by Slovakia’s number one rental
house, Q-99. Kubanka’s starting point for the lighting was the circus theme
suggested by Daniel Sichman’s stage set, which featured an intimate
performance area and was spherical shaped like a big top venue.
Over 50 Robe fixtures were used - a mix of 14x ColorSpot 1200E ATs, 16x
ColorWash 1200E ATs and 16x ColorMix 575 ATs. On the furthest downstage
truss were 6 Robe REDBlinder 2●96 LTs, used for warming those audience
members sitting in and around tables at the front of the stalls area.
The show was directed for RTVS by Katarina Durovicova. The DoP was
Michal Skotnicky and the executive producer Radka Blizmakovova.
Robe LEDWash 600 Are Pure Poetry
at Prince of Poets Festival
Robe ROBIN LEDWash 600s took centre stage for the 2010/11 Prince of Poets
festival, competition and TV series, staged at the 2100 capacity Al Raha Theatre
in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
These and several other Robe moving lights were specified by Talib Alsouri
from end clients, the Abu Dhabi Association for Culture & Heritage (ADACH).
The Robes were incorporated into a lighting design by Sono AB. Prince of Poets
- this was the 4th series - has become a phenomenon in the Arab world. It is
produced by Pyramedia and promotes and enhances classical Arabic poetry.
For last yearꞋs Prince of Poets event, Sonu worked as the programmer and operator with German LD Harvey Scherer, and this year, Pyramedia brought him in
to design the lighting rig.
ADACH also own the lighting equipment that was utilised for the show,
and has been investing steadily in Robe over the last 18 months.
The lighting rig consisted of 48x Robe ColorSpot 700E ATs, 24x ROBIN
LEDWash 600s, 6x ROBIN 600 Beams, 12x ColorWash 750 Tungstens and
32x CitySkape 48 LED fixtures. They were positioned above the stage utilising
the theatreꞋs flying system, and on the deck, where they illuminated some set
and decorative elements.

PORTUGUESE IDOL
Robe is a Hit
With Portuguese Idol
Robe LEDWash 600s Feel
the Christmas Spirit in Russia
Lighting designer Mário Bastos used 50 Robe ROBIN 600 moving lights to
great effect for the latest series of Idolos (Pop Idol) in Portugal, produced
by Freemantle Media, for which he was both lighting designer and DoP.
Moscow based lighting rental company Light Logic supplied Robe LEDWash 600
and ColorWash 1200E AT moving lights for the Orthodox Christmas Ceremonial
Service held at the Cathedral of Christ The Saviour in Moscow on January 7th.
The 30x ROBIN Spot 600s and 20x ROBIN Wash 600s were rigged
overhead in the Estudios Valentim de Carvalho, and used for a variety
of tasks - big beamy Ꞌcamera candyꞋ looks, highlighting the action onstage
and illuminating the set.
People queued all day to join the Service, attended by President of the Russian
Federation, Dmitry Medvedev and broadcast live by leading TV station Channel
One Russia to approximately 140 million people nationwide. Lighting was
designed by Light LogicꞋs Dmitry Velikanov, and just in time for their busy
festive schedule, the company had taken delivery of 50 LEDWash 600s from
Russian distributor, Sofitlight.
He needed bright and versatile luminaires to produce a host of unique
looks to differentiate each of the contestants throughout the 10 week
series. "We needed fixtures with a great output, a good zoom, smooth
colour mixing and multiple features - and the ROBINs were perfect for
the job," he states. HeꞋs used 1200 Series ColorSpot and ColorWashes on
several previous TV shows and events, so knows the reliablity, confirming,
"I have never had a problem with a Robe fixture." Idolos lighting was
programmed and run by Mario Rui on an Avolites Diamond 4 console. Both
Marios are respected leading practitioners in PortugalꞋs busy professional
TV and production industry.
The fixtures were supplied to the show by RobeꞋs Lisbon based Portuguese
distributors, NAN Audiovisual.
The Robes were positioned all around the second level galleries of the magnificent Cathedral, with the lights about 8 metres above the congregation and the
action below.
The 36x LEDWash 600s and 40x ColorWash 1200E ATs were used to illuminate
the audience, enhance light levels for the cameras and highlight the fabulous
architecture. The excellent range of whites produced by the LEDWash 600
(from 2.700K - 8.000K) were perfect for the job. The small, neat dimensions
of the LEDWash 600s assisted greatly in the units being concealed around
the Cathedral. All moving lights were controlled by Velikanov using a WholeHog
3 console.

Robe used to Light First
"Sport Awards Guateng" show
The Czech and Slovak Republics pooled resources and potential star
material in their roll out of the "Got Talent" TV show, staged in Exhibition
Hall Z of the Brno Exhibition Centre, CZ, and lit by SlovakiaꞋs top lighting
designer, Martin Kubanka.
The Sport Awards Gauteng 2011 is a brand new event staged at EmperorꞋs Palace
in Kempton Park, Johannesburg, South Africa - an initiative by the local Gauteng
government to reward and acknowledge those in the province who excel at
various sports. It was broadcast live on the Supersport 4 satellite TV channel.
Robe fixtures were again prominent on the rig. They are KubankaꞋs moving
light of choice for all types of show, and were supplied by leading Slovakian
rental company, Q-99.
Lighting designer Nicholas MichaletosꞋ rig contained 80 Robe moving lights,
which were supplied by locally based MGG productions, all programmed and
run by MGGꞋs Kevin Rieck using a grandMA console.
The Robe elements were 34x ColorSpot 1200E ATs, 26x ColorWash 1200E
ATs, 20x ColorSpot 250 ATs, 12x ColorBeam 2500E ATs, 12x REDWash
3●192s, 18x ColorMix 575 ATs, 10x LEDBlinder 196 LT and for the first
time, 14x ROBIN 600E Beams and 12 ColorBeam 2500E ATs.
The lighting design was based around a set and production design by Wayne
Sproule of Pendragon Dezign, and was a slick and smooth fusion of classical
theatrical and televisual styles.
The rig included the amazing new ROBIN 600 LEDWashes - MGG was the first
rental company in South Africa to have them. Their range of real whites at
different colour temperatures is extremely useful for television environments,
together with the dynamic 15 - 60 degree zoom and the smooth colour mixing.
Joining the 12x ROBIN 600 LEDWashes on the rig were 20 Robe CitySkape 48
LED floods, 20x LEDForce 7s, 14x Robe ColorSpot 700E ATs and 12x ColorWash
700E ATs.
These were positioned around the upstage LED wall and other scenic LED
elements, as well as overhead on the trusses and on podiums beneath the
transparent floor. The ROBIN 600 Beams and ColorBeam 2500s were used
for bright, punchy narrow beam effects, and proved perfect for cutting
through the numerous onstage LED surfaces. They were also used for
strobing and gobo effects. Kubanka thinks they are "Amazing", and was
particularly impressed with the high output of both types of Beam.

TALK SHOW
Robe lights "La Tana del Lupo"
TV talk show
La Tana del Lupo (translated literally as the ꞋDen of The WolfꞋ) is a popular
Italian TV talk show, broadcast live three times a week by CTS (the Sicilian
Television Company) from the Panastudio Productions facilities in Palermo,
Sicily, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons. DoP Massimo
Tomasino has specified lighting for the current series, which includes
6 Robe ROBIN 300E Beams and 2 Robe DigitalSpot 3000DTs, which are
positioned on the studio floor and on an angled truss around the studioꞋs
perimeter. The set design is deliberately minimal, so attention remains
focussed on the guests, the dialogue and the studio action.
It is only a small lighting rig, but Tomasino has more than enough options
with the ROBINs and the DigitalSpots, which are carefully programmed
and appropriately used.
He has used the ROBIN 300 Beams on many shows before and likes them
very much. They are "Perfect" for this kind of television studio, he says,
adding, "The brightness is amazing and thanks to the small size, the units
integrate well with the surrounding environment". The products are also
proving very reliable - now a de rigueur fact for the Robe brand - and this
allows him to handle every live-to-air situation with "Great confidence".
Robe and Big Brother in South Africa
Robe fixtures made their own impression on the set of the latest Big Brother
Africa TV series, with over 50 Robes supplied for the show which was recorded
at Sasani Studios in Johannesburg, South Africa, and broadcast on DSTV.
Lighting was designed by Peter Rieck from Blond Productions (who also supplied
the lighting equipment), who worked closely with Sean Hoey from Dream Sets
who created fresh scenic elements, based on accentuating and highlighting
some of the showꞋs technical and visual elements. The Robe fixtures added
mood, colour, beams and shapes and general Ꞌcamera-candyꞋ to the equation.
The lighting rig comprised 12x Robe ColorSpot 700E ATs hung on the trussing
over the main stage, 6x ROBIN 600 Beams on the deck, together with 12x
ColorSpot 250E ATs also for low level beam lighting, plus 24x Robe Scan 575 XTs,
which were positioned at side stage and along the LED screens. The ROBIN 600
Beams are new to Centurion, Pretoria based Blond ProductionꞋs rental stock.
Their crew think they are "Awesome" says BlondꞋs Christiaan Ballot - not a man
to mince his words!
Other features that they like generally about Robe include: "nice rich colours";
interchangeable gobos due to them being similarly sized; "amazing" optics and
the fact that they are "Robust and never say die".

Robe installed at Minsk Arena
Robe moving lights and DigitalSpots have been installed at the new Minsk
Arena in the Belarus capital, part of a complex of buildings that includes
the flagship 15,000 seater ice hockey arena, one of the largest in Europe,
which is also utilised as a concert hall.
The fixtures were specified by RobeꞋs Belarus distributor Art Ramos - also
a technical design & build specialist - to the installers as part of a government
contract. Main contractor Belcultproject was responsible for supplying
the products to the venue.
Art RamosꞋs Anton Streltsov explains that the 12x DigitalSpot 7000DTs
were specified as the best and most cost efficient product of their type
available, and that the 16 ColorSpot 700E ATs were chosen for
the brightness to size ratio of the unit and the general reliability
of the Robe brand.
The DigitalSpots are rigged in the roof onto two horizontal spans
of overhead trussing running down both long sides of the Arena, and together
with the ColorSpot 700E ATs, they form part of a set of mobile ꞋhouseꞋ
concert lights. The DigitalSpots are also used for all the pre-game shows
hosted by local ice hockey team, Dinamo Minsk, in the Kontinental Hockey
League (KHL).
ROOTSTEIN
Robe DigitalSpots
Chosen for Rootstein Installation
Robe DigitalSpot 3000DTs were specified as part of a unique installation for
the London showrooms of the worldꞋs leading mannequin designers, Rootstein.
The showrooms in west Kensington, London are remodeled each year and given
a new and fresh look and feel, and this same design and visual concept then
transposed to their showrooms in New York City. Robe UK was approached
by Mediazest, producers of all Rootstein’s video material. They became aware
of RobeꞋs product range following internet research and specifically wanted
a moving projector. Robe UKꞋs Nathan Wan co-ordinated the specification,
commissioning and installation.
The idea was to transform the showroom into a theatrical environment. They
wanted two walls of the space to feature projected video material, and have
the flexibility of moving this around as needed. DigitalSpots were a perfect - and
ideally priced - solution. Reliability was another major factor as the 20 minute
video show runs all day every day.
MediazestꞋs David Edwards visited Robe UK in Northampton and received
a full demonstration using some of their own content. They were particularly
interested in the range of effects offered by the DigitalSpot 3000 DT as they
wanted to apply kaleidoscopic and others to their footage. The decision
to purchase came just after the demo was completed.

Robe Lights Bath Abbey
DANCING WATER
Dancing Water show Macau
Robe moving lights and Anolis LED fixtures were specified by lighting
designer Simon Marcus from Enlightened to illuminate Bath Abbey,
Pulteney Bridge and other key architectural features around the famous
UK World Heritage spa townꞋs city centre for the opening night of the 2011
Bath International Music Festival - "Party In The City".
Six Robe DigitalSpot 7000DTs are projecting a foyer pre-show taster movie
for the incredible "House of Dancing Water" show at MacauꞋs City of Dreams
super-resort. The DigitalSpots were specified by Geoff Benham, City of DreamsꞋ
Creative Director, and cover a 34 metre wide by 8.5 metre surface area above
the entrance doors to the Theatre of Dreams, the venue for the main show.
Marcus needed a selection of reliable, flexible, bright lightsources. Having
large quantities of Robe and Anolis in hire stock, and a vast experience
of multiple applications, he knew they would be perfect. He also used
6 newly purchased Robe ROBIN 600 LEDWashes. The creative challenges
included making it look very special, and doing something different from
a ꞋstandardꞋ building lighting scheme.
This gets everyone - regularly 2000 people per show - in the mood for the
amazing Dancing Water visual extravaganza by Franco Dragone.
Around the base, washing up the walls on the north and east elevations
of Bath Abbey were a combination of ColorSpot 1200, 700 and 575E ATs,
applied to the building in a series of rich complimentary primary colours,
bringing a magical party atmosphere to town.
The Robin 600 LEDWash fixtures were positioned at the corners and
bathed large areas in striking colours. "They are very nice bits of kit",
comments Marcus, "extremely bright and very versatile, particularly for
lighting at a very steep angle".
The fixtures were supplied to Hong Kong based installers Ptarmigan Consulting
by RobeꞋs Chinese distributor Leafun. Benham chose them following a demo
from Leafun, after which he recommended Robe as a good, reliable well-priced
option for the project.
The DigitalSpots are flown on a truss about 10 metres off the floor, concealed
behind a wall with holes cut out for the beams to pass, and fitted with short
throw optics to maximise the 9.2 metre wide angle distance. The 6 units are
edge-blended together to create the full banner shaped image. A special version
of Robe‘s Picture Merging function allows pre-cut content to be utilised, edited
so each DigitalSpot holds only the relevant pre-sized section of the full image
which it is projecting. This preserves the native 1024 x 768 resolution of the
image without content distortion.

BATH ABBEY
Life is a Cabaret for Robe
at Teatro Las Condes in Chile
Teatro Municipal de Las Condes in Santiago de Chile, one of the finest
theatres in Chile, has purchased Robe ColorSpot and ColorWash 700E AT
moving lights, supplied by RobeꞋs Chilean distributor Valook.
theatre
The first use of the new lights was by the theatreꞋs resident lighting
designer, Yury Canales for a high profile production of the classic musical "Cabaret". Teatro Municipal de Las Condes prides itself
on high quality production values, and wanted to invest in new moving light technology to replace their previous stock. They underwent a lengthy evaluation process from which Robe was selected.
"Robe was a clear winner with its smooth colour mixing, wide range
of colours, incredible beam angles and because they are so quiet - almost
silent - and therefore ideal for dramas as well as the noisier performances!"
states Canales.
He was also highly impressed by the interest, commitment, knowledge and
expert advice received from Valook. They were also looking for reliability.
The theatre has a busy schedule of producing and receiving shows, so it
was imperative that the investment was a wise and long term one. "Robe
fitted the bill in every criteria," he states, adding that having the Robes will
make a "huge difference" to the facilities they can offer.
C-MINE
Cultural Centrum In Genk C-Mine
Ten Robe ROBIN 600 Spots have been specified and installed into the brand
new 600 capacity C-Mine theatre - at the Cultural Centrum in Genk, Belgium.
C-Mine is part of the redeveloped Winterslag mine site, an important piece
of industrial heritage now transformed into a busy visitor attraction and cultural
centre. The theatre is utilised for a whole range of live performances and
cultural events including drama, music, dance, comedy, etc. The venueꞋs
lighting was specified by Chris Weyens, a senior technician from Genk‘s main
theatre, and supplied by RobeꞋs Benelux distributor, Controllux.
It followed a shoot out against competitor products where Robe was a clear
winner! Wienand van Lil is the technical director of both theatres and this is
their first experience with moving lights as part of the in-house installation,
previously having used them only as a rental item. Apart from seeing the fixtures
in action first hand which convinced the team that this was THE moving light
brand for them, Robe was also highly recommended by other professionals with
whom they consulted.
The ROBIN 600 Spots are installed above the main stage, and can be moved
anywhere around the theatre and auditorium. As a busy receiving theatre,
having the Robes in house boosts the venueꞋs production and technical values
and with it, people’s perceptions about their facilities and standards of excellence.

LIFE CABARET
First Robe LEDWash 600s
in South African State Theatre
RobeꞋs South African distributor, Johannesburg based DWR, supplied
the first batch of Robe ROBIN LEDWash 600 fixtures in the country
to the South African State Theatre in Pretoria.
The 16 initial LEDWash 600 fixtures were specified by the venueꞋs Head
of Lighting Simon King, who sought a more flexible and cost-effective
replacement for the theatreꞋs old 2K PC stock. He was immediately
struck by the small size, light weight and completely silent running
of the LEDWash 600.
theatre
Apart from these considerations, the ongoing reduction in maintenance
costs offered by an investment in LEDWashes was very appealing
- theatres traditionally all have to juggle continuously with expedient cap-ex
budgets, so any chance for these to be maximised is a huge asset.
With a rig of LEDWashes, no bulb replacements are needed, gels are a thing
of the past and the units draw substantially less power - and can even all
be run off one power circuit in the venue if required. King remarks, "Apart
from all the practical advantages, in creative terms, the new fixtures open
up numerous possibilities. The brightness and the (15–60 degree) zoom
are amazing". In short, the LEDWashes offer all the scope needed for
the Theatre to light a myriad of different shows.
RONCALLI
Robe LEDWash 600s for Roncalli Circus
Newly purchased Robe ROBIN LEDWash 600 moving lights were among
the star attractions for the 7th Circus Roncalli Christmas season, staged
at the Tempodrom Möckernstraße, Berlin.
The Circus already owns its own lighting equipment, including 8x Robe
ColorWash 575E AT Zooms and 8x ColorSpot 700E ATs which were purchased
earlier in 2010 from RobeꞋs Germany distributor, LMP.
Robe was specified by the CircusꞋs lighting designer Markus Weitkamp and
the fixtures were integrated into their ongoing touring show. He chose the Robe
brand again because of its reputation for reliability, a vital consideration for
RoncalliꞋs heavy touring schedule that includes over 300 performances a year.
For the Festive Season shows in Berlin, he wanted some additional magic
in the lightshow, so checked out the LEDWash 600s. Almost immediately
after the demo from LMP, he took the decision to purchase 6 of these hugely
popular Ꞌfixtures of the momentꞋ. Weitkamp comments, that the "Efficiency,
brightness and small size" of the LEDWash 600 were major reasons for
the decision, plus the colour mixing, which is smooth, seamless and "Beautifully
homogenised". HeꞋs also impressed with the unitꞋs ꞋproperꞋ whites, the diverse
range of high quality, subtle pastels and the massive zoom.

ASIA BAR
Robe at the New
Asia Bar Singapore
About 60 Robe moving lights (and over 1000 Anolis LED sources!) are
utilised in a spectacular lighting scheme at the newly opened Penthouse
Club in Reno, Nevada, USA.
Located with magnificent panoramic views, 71 floors up on top of the luxury
Swissotel The Stamford in Singapore, the New Asia Bar is one of the most
exclusive club and night venues in town, with a friendly chic atmosphere and
a high profile discerning clientele.
The multi-million dollar facility - the largest gentlemenꞋs club in the Reno-Tahoe area - is adjacent to Reno-Tahoe Airport and has all the style and
quality associated with its globally famous adult brand. The interior design
and extensive lighting scheme was created by David Chesal, a specialist
in the illumination of upscale adult venues with elegance and discretion.
Chesal is also a big Robe fan and specifier. He uses the brand on many
of his projects because it is "Reliable, flexible and great value for money".
Four CitySkape 48s up-light the statue outside, and a Robin 300 Plasma
spot and 4 x ColorSpot 170ATs are used for general lighting on the side
stage on level 1.
The 500 capacity venue is kitted out with Robe ClubScan 250 CTs,
ColorSpot 250 ATs and ColorWash 575 ATs, to add all the necessary glitter,
glamour and excitement needed for guests to fully enjoy the environment.
The moving lights were specified by Steve Rawlings of Intelligent Lighting
Design, and supplied by Louis Teo from Lighting & Sound Distribution (LSD),
RobeꞋs Singaporean distributor. New AsiaꞋs manager Steve Ignatiadis was also
involved in formulating a brief for what he wanted to achieve from the lighting.
He said, "I wanted a rig with lots of flexibility and options, and that was as
reliable as possible - always a major consideration for any club operator".
The main stage rig offers good overall coverage and multiple effects,
delivered by another six ROBIN 300 Plasma Spots, LEDWash 136 LTs,
ColorMix 150 AT profiles, Scan 250 XTs and LED Blinder 196LTs. A DigitalSpot
7000 DT is rigged in the ceiling of the main are by the stage. It creates
stunning projections and is used in conjunction with a roll down electric
projection screen to cleverly help close down the when a more intimate
feel is required.
Louis Teo adds, "This is a hard working installation for any equipment and to
deal with the clubꞋs tough schedule of 7 days a week, up to 12 hours a day,
I knew these were absolutely the right fixtures for the job."

Robe in Pole Position
at Orchard Tower Singapore
Robe and Anolis lighting fixtures have been specified and installed into
3 separate busy clubs in Orchard Tower, 400 Orchard Road, a famous
Singaporean night scene landmark for those into serious pole dancing and
drinking culture.
The 3 clubs – Queens, Crazy Horse and Top 5 Disco - all owned by Helen
Yap, have recently had their lighting upgraded with the latest technology,
as specified by Technical Manager Dave Rock, himself a semi-legendary
figure on the Singapore club scene.
Rock has been working with Robe fixtures for some time in assorted
venues, but this was the first time heꞋs actually specified the brand for
an installation. Top 5 is the largest of the three clubs, complete with
a performance stage for the house band, numerous poles and a large retro
moving lighting rig above the dancefloor, harking back to the 1980s glory
days of disco. This is extremely popular with guests!
club
Rock wanted some serious rock ꞋnꞋ roll lighting effects, so chose 8 Robe
ROBIN 300 Beams, which are positioned upstage in the roof and rigged to
also light the main dancefloor for DJ sets. He is totally impressed by their
brightness! "They are small, lightweight and consume so little power for
the massive output - I love them".
UPSTAIRS CLUB
Australians dancing under Robes
in Upstairs club in Beresford Hotel
in Melbourne
Lighting designer Andy Mutton from Lightning Lighting in Melbourne, Australia,
has specified 14x Robe ROBIN 300 LEDWash moving lights for a fantastic
new lighting installation at the buzzy Beresford Hotel nightspot in Surrey Hills,
Sydney, New South Wales.
This is the first club/live music installation for ROBIN 300 LEDWashes
in the BeresfordꞋs famous 600 capacity "Upstairs" venue, which has just been
refurbished by new owners, Merivale. Mutton was asked to deliver a full lighting
technical package - which also features 8 Robe ROBIN 300E Spots - all supplied
by RobeꞋs Australian distributor ULA.
It was the first time that Mutton had actually used the ROBIN 300 LEDWash,
although he had used the larger ROBIN 600 LEDWash several times on other
shows and was hugely impressed. "ItꞋs a great fixture, with heaps of output and
a good zoom", he enthuses, adding that he really appreciates the smooth colour
mixing due to the refined and homogenised light engine, a feature of the Cree
multichip technology used in RobeꞋs current generation of LED moving heads.
The ROBIN 300E Spots were selected primarily for their wide zoom... 40º which
is a vital function to optimise lighting effects and drama in low ceilinged venues.
