The Legacy of Design Awards, the annual competition
recognizing the finest interior design achievements
within the Texas Chapter, was again held in conjunction with METROCON Expo but there are a few new
twists for 2010!
New Sponsor: Design Guide | This collaboration will
complement Design Guide’s current media sponsorships of the ASID Austin Design Community’s Design
Excellence Awards and the ASID Dallas Design Community’s
DesignOvation Awards, extending ASID brand coverage
across both the Austin-San Antonio and Dallas-Fort
Worth Design Guide editions.
New Night: Wednesday | This year we celebrated on
the Wednesday night before METROCON so that we’ll
be bright-eyed and fresh and not have aching feet.
New Venue: The International at Turtle Creek | This
year we’re carved out our own celebratory niche during
this sizzling party for the A&D community produced by
Design Guide and The International at Turtle Creek
Tenant Association. Located in the Dallas Design District
at 150 Turtle Creek Boulevard, this venue allowed us
to take time to honor our winners and still get in on the
festivities.
New Awards: David Gappa of Vitro Glass designed and
handcrafted each award. Texas is the largest and most
successful chapter of ASID; we needed to have an award
that really reflects on the incredible unique talent
that Texas offers. We are so excited with the new look.
The event was a great success and again only made
possible by the wonderful and talented designers that
make up our Texas Chapter.

Practitioners and Students, Get Ready for ASID
RealWorld DesignWeek 2010!
ASID RealWorld Design Week is an annual program that offers job shadowing and online learning experiences to expose and enlighten students to the
real world of interior design professional practices. This program encourages relationships between interior design students and their role models in the industry.
During the week of November 7-13, 2010, ASID student members nationwide
will have the opportunity to visit the work locations of ASID designers, industry
partner reps, and educators to them shadow for a day.
In addition to the job shadowing opportunities provided by RealWorld DesignWeek,
ASID will also provide a pair of career development web events—Prepare and
Position before and after, hosted by prominent design industry guest speakers.
RealWorld DesignWeek exists exclusively for ASID members and it is a complimentary program at no cost to participants. The program is designed to offer
benefits for both students and professionals. Student ASID members will receive
an inside look at the interior design world and professional practices, have the
opportunity to network with their shadow day host and other industry
professionals, and possibly expand the experience into a mentoring relationship,
internship or even their first job! Designers and industry partners will benefit by
being able to make a positive change in an aspiring designer’s life in just one day,
help sustain and advance the interior design profession by supporting future
designers, and hopefully find a skilled intern or entry level designer to alleviate
some of their work load.
As of late July, ONLY SEVEN (7) OF OUR 1,200+ TEXAS CHAPTER PRACTITIONERS & INDUSTRY PARTNER REPRESENTATIVES HAD SIGNED UP TO HOST
A STUDENT. In order to accommodate the many interested student members,
ASID needs you to host shadow days, so REGISTER TODAY! PLEASE SIGN UP BY
SEPTEMBER 1, 2010, as that is when students may start registering.
Get Involved!
For additional information on registration and FAQs, visit www.asid.org/rwdw.

Important Upcoming
Legislation Issue for Texas
Interior Designers Regarding
Taxing Design Services
By Shelley Saab, ASID RID
At Large Board Member
Donna Vining, FASID, IIDA, RID, CAPS Executive Director for
TAID and Julie Reynolds, ASID, RID President of TAID had this
important information in the Spring issue of the TAID newsletter
which I want to remind all of our ASID members to be informed
about how it will affect them.
The next most important legislation coming up in January 2011
for the Interior Design Profession that concerns taxing our
consulting services. The Texas House Ways and Means Committee will be discussing
several types businesses in Texas that currently do not have to collect sales tax on
services. The Legislators will be busy this fall to determine the direction and goals of
legislation for the next session.
News
from
TAID
Letter from the
TAID President
Dear Members,
On July 26, 2010, the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners
Board members discussed Experience required of Interior
Design CIDA program graduates who wish to become Texas
Registered Interior Designers. The IDEP (Interior Design
Experience Program) program sponsored by NCIDQ is a monitored, documented experience program for entry-level designers.
Download the detailed brochure to determine eligibility.
In Donna Vining’s article in the TAID newsletter she has outlined some questions that
may help us in fighting this tax and that were asked of all witnesses by the Ways and
Means committee.
www.ncidq.org/pdf/IDEPBrochure.pdf
TAID will keep you advised of information we learn about this
opportunity.
1. Are you aware of any legislative history regarding the original purpose for exempting
or excluding your industry from taxation? The committee would appreciate any information regarding the original purpose of any exemption.
Other TAID news:
2. What unique public policy purpose is served by maintaining the sales tax exclusion
to your industry? Keeping in mind that all businesses-those that collect tax and those
that don’t-create jobs. The committee would like to know what additional
economic and social benefits are accrued to Texans by not collection sales taxes on
your service.
3. Is it inequitable to apply the sales tax for other goods and services, but not yours?
All Texans benefit directly and indirectly from governmental services. Is it fair that
your customers do not pay sales taxes on the services you provide, while consumers
of other goods and services do pay sales taxes? If so, why?
4. What specific tax administrative issues or costs exist in collecting the sales tax and
remitting it to the state?
5. Does your industry use any other services as an input in the production process of
your service? Many businesses use other goods and services that are instrumental
to the ultimate service they sell. Taxing services used in developing the ultimate
service could result in double taxation. Is your service used as either an input or does
it rely on another service as an input? Are your services provided in house in certain
circumstances by other businesses?
For more information go to www.House.state.tx.us to follow the outcome of the Ways
and Means Committee discussions on this subject.
Knowing that there is a shortfall in Tax revenue and funding. This will most certainly be
an uphill battle.

March 1, 2011, Legislative Day in Austin. TAID members, ID
students and teachers visit legislators.
All eyes are on Florida and their battle with the IJ. Oral arguments will be heard during the week of November 1st in
Montgomery, Alabama. This litigation will have far reaching
implications for all others.
The November election cycle is upon us. TAID needs to know
the ASID members in the Texas Chapter who will work in their
districts for legislators. The best way to get to know the legislators is to work for them in their campaign offices stuffing
envelopes, addressing mailings and making phone calls in
their phone banks. By working with the legislator and getting
to know that person, we are welcomed in their offices in Austin
during the session.
David Lancaster, long time Executive Director for Texas Society
of Architects, has taken a different position with TSA.
Thank you for helping TAID inform ASID members.

How ASID membership can help you
By Kelley Barnett, ASID, RID
Current Membership Director ASID Texas Chapter
Incoming President Elect, ASID Texas Chapter Board
Texas Registered Interior Designer
National Council for Interior Design Qualifications Certificate Holder
www.kelleybarnett.com
Returning from a recent ASID board meeting, I was stuck in the crowded corner
Southwest Airlines gates at Dallas Love Field. No seats. I finally found one lone
seat next to a blonde “surfer lookin’ dude” and plopped down. What began as a
simple introduction, has blossomed into an incredible relationship. We shared
pleasantries, family stories, incidences of loss and tragedy, and then he told me
he was an impressionist painter. I quickly moved beyond my skepticism once I
saw his work. Gorgeous! A fourth generation artist, a San Antonio native, and a
young man starting over in life, and I was honored to have met him. Then he asked,
“What do you do?” After answering, we spent the next 4 hours strategizing about
how we could help each other. I was putting the finish touches on our San Antonio
Showcase, and...I HAD NO ARTWORK! He was beside himself with anticipation
about displaying his originals in “my” condo unit of the downtown hi-rise for the
Showcase. Icing on the cake...his oils were the Riverwalk, church facades, and
other San Antonio points of interest. The Showcase was a success, and Curtis
Wade was able to meet other ASID IPs, designers, the public, and my family. As
I write, he is painting cherubs on the ceiling of a house that my husband and I
are renovating.
What in the world does this have to do with membership? It is one of the most
amazing “intangible” benefits of membership in ASID.
Incredible selection of

As your Membership Director for the Texas Chapter for the past 2 years, I am
often asked, “What do I get for my $435?” That’s easy. There are many “tangible”
benefits to membership as stated on our websites, www.asid.org, and www.asidtx.org.
In fact, I got a quote from ASID’s referral on business insurance that was 30%
less than a local quote. I’ve purchased ASID’s contracts, brochures, marketing
pieces, books, and webinars. ASID offers discounts on credit cards and cell phones.
The Texas Chapter receives 25% of dues back from ASID, so the more members
(including IPs) we have, the more we can do. There is a referral service, Connex
(ASIDs social networking site), job postings, logos, marketing ideas, professional
member marks, and so much more than I can list here. These are just a few from
memory!
But it’s those intangibles than intrigue me. When you volunteer to serve in
ASID, you realize just how big, how organized, how special it really is. You work
alongside fellow volunteers who share the goal of making this organization
even better by helping your peers, encouraging students, advancing the profession, and contributing. The relationships forged in the “fire” are unique. In fact
I recently sent out an eblast requesting names of drapery installers. Within 5
minutes I had 3 names, by day’s end, I had over 20 “prescreened” installers! I
enjoy attending classes as well as social functions, introducing ASID members to
each other and encouraging them to do business together! Nothing is more enjoyable than hearing about a project and thinking, “Who can I put together for this
project?” They do the same for me.
As Texas Chapter board members, we attend annual leadership training. In
June, training was held in Chicago in conjunction with NEOCON at the Merchandise
Mart. I’d never been before! During breakfast, I walked straight up to our incoming
president’s table, sat down, and personally thanked Michael Thomas, FASID, for
his work in getting a Small Business Council established at ASID. I thanked him
on behalf of all the sole proprietors and business owners and told him that this
is the one request I hear above all others, “Help us as business owners, and get
ASID in the public arena.” They are listening.
Our group of 5 consisted of commercial and residential designers. The Mart
contains showrooms for both. But what I found so funny, was that while on the
residential floors, I felt peaceful, in my element, and very at home. The
commercial designers were stressed and overwhelmed! And the same was true
in reverse, when we traded floors. Isn’t this a cool profession? There is a place
for everyone. So in this time of economic uncertainty, keep your eyes open for
non-traditional “designer” jobs, perhaps just temporarily. IPs need reps. What
about product design, packaging design, and graphic design?
ASID is also a place to rub shoulders (or perhaps cry on them) through different
stages in life and career. I remember as a new mother, not wanting to work
apart from being “Mom”, and feeling guilty about it. Silly me. For 5 years, I took
very small jobs, and enjoyed motherhood. One of my fondest memories is of a
dear friend and fellow designer in Houston, who would bring her two little boys
over as we shared Mom duties, while the other tried to “work”. That was 15 years
ago and we are still friends! When tragedy, illness and loss touch one of us, the
other ASID members know and step in to help. We realize that there are phases
of life and work, times when you can volunteer and really be involved, and
times when that is not possible. And it’s all good.
In closing, as your current Membership Director, I applaud you in being part
of the largest ASID chapter in the USA at 1800+ members! We have one of highest
retention rates, and lowest loss rates as well. Many other chapters do not have a
central office (Dallas) or chapter administrator (Pat Gallagher), or design communities, like we do. They look to our website and MetroCon for example. Thank your
local design community chairs all they do to schedule meetings, organize volunteers, and make personal connections with members. And when it’s your “turn”,
get in there and get your hands dirty! We need you and we need each other.

ASID San Antonio Showcase House
By Kelley Barnett, ASID, RID
Current Membership Director ASID Texas Chapter
Incoming President Elect, ASID Texas Chapter Board
Texas Registered Interior Designer
National Council for Interior Design Qualifications Certificate Holder
www.kelleybarnett.com
Have you ever heard of....pulling together an ASID showcase event in only five
short months, without any large non-profit’s help, using only local sources, and
having to design multiple spaces? Sounds impossible? Well we thought so too!
But we did it! The first ever ASID downtown hi-rise condo showcase took place
May 7-15, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. This event also was a first as San Antonio
and Austin ASID designers participated jointly. Kelley Barnett, ASID, RID (San
Antonio) served as Showcase Chair, and Jeanne Whittington, Allied Member ASID,
RID (Austin) served as Co-Chair. Paula Stone, Allied Member, ASID (San Antonio)
and Laura Burton, Allied Member ASID (Austin) completed the design team.
This ASID Showcase benefited our local Wounded Warrior Family Support
Center (WFSC) The Department of Public Safety Officer’s Association (DPSOA),
and University of Incarnate Word (UIW) Student Scholarship, and St. Mary’s
Student Scholarship. The students from UIW and St. Mary’s were our docents for
the week long public tours.
Jeff Rochelle, co-developer of the Vidorra Condominiums in downtown San
Antonio, offered 2 units (1 at $1M, 1 at $500K) on the 12th floor with stunning
views of historic downtown, for our event. We were given a clean slate, lots of
freedom in design, Mae Escobar’s “Amazezing PR”, and Chad Case with RamRoc
Construction. Kelley Barnett, ASID, RID was appeared on a KONO 101 radio station
broadcast, and the local FOX TV affiliate for a 2 hour live broadcast at Vidorra.
The San Antonio Express News gave us a full page coverage May 9, including
photos, and on www.mysa.com. The local NBC, and CBC affiliates also covered
our event.
The most incredible support came from our San Antonio ASID Industry Partners.
From the first call for “help”, they showed up, enthusiastic and willing to roll up
their sleeves to offer and donate, incredible products and services. “Design Guide
Magazine” and Shannon Streater became our media sponsor from the word “GO!”
Our Showcase will appear in the October issue of Design Guide, with professional
photography by Jason Roberts. “Interior Trade Cartel”, a local to-the-trade showroom, furnished one unit almost entirely. “Copenhagen Imports” completely
furnished one unit as well. “Palmer Todd” and “Emser Tile” donated gorgeous
tile, and “Alamo Tile and Stone” installed it. “Light by Design” supplied hi-end
light fixtures throughout. “California Closets” donated 6 closet interiors. “Vigini
Studios” created masterpieces on the walls in virtually every room. “Dominion
Design and Integration” installed a Lutron system, and TV room setup.
“Sherwin Williams” donated all the paint. “Aquatic Interiors” installed a custom
aquarium. Original artwork from Curtis Wade, Anthony Gonzalez, Seth Faerber,
and Terry Jones, was proudly displayed. “Novel Fabrics”, “Kravet Fabrics”, “Plant
Interscapes” , “Summer Classics”, “Oriental Rug Gallery”, “Brigman Enterprises”,
Bismarck Studios”, “Barry Bradley of Artisans at Rocky Hill”, “Carlos Durand
Furniture” , and “Lightlink Lighting” also participated.
Corporate sponsors included Wells Fargo, F. Jordan Construction, and Chicago
Title. Rosemary Delivers and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse provided delicious food
and drink. Connie Brigman, of Brigman Enterprises, donated the beautiful table
linens for our Premier Party.

Interior Designer Selected
to Serve on National
Grading Panel
Cristina Alston, an interior designer with CAI Design Group, LLC in McKinney
was recently selected to be an Exam Grader for the National Council for interior
Design Qualification’s (NCIDQ) spring 2010 administration. Alston is one of 36
individuals selected for the vital role of NCIDQ Exam Grader.
The NCIDQ Examination consists of three parts: two multiple-choice sections
(which are machine-graded) and a practicum section. Section 3 of the exam is a
three-part drawing practicum graded by interior design practitioners using established criteria set by a group of “master grader” practitioners called Grading
Coordinators. Passing the Examination and earning the respected NCIDQ credential signify that an interior designer has met the rigorous standards for education,
experience and examination for interior designers in North America. Graders help
NCIDQ maintain these standards to protect the health, safety and welfare of the
public.
NCIDQ graders are trained to use a well defined and uniformity accepted set
of criteria when grading the practicum exams. Each exam exercise is graded by
two different graders, who apply professional judgment within the parameters of
the established criteria set by NCIDQ. The graders evaluate the entire solution to
see if a candidate has demonstrated his or her competence in the area being
tested. Exercises that receive conflicting scores during the initial grading will be
graded a third time by a Grading Coordinator, with that score replacing the divergent score.

“NCIDQ Certificate holders represent qualified interior designers – those
who are deemed capable (through education, experience and examination) to
protect the public’s health, safety and welfare,” explains Kimberly Marks, 2010
NCIDQ President. “Our graders are responsible for upholding the standards and
determining who those qualified individuals are. The role of a grader is extremely
important in ensuring NCIDQ’s mission of public protection is upheld. We value
Alston’s participation. Our volunteers are the backbone of NCIDQ.”
All NCIDQ graders are required to be active NCIDQ Certificate Holders.
Alston earned her NCIDQ Certificate in March 2007 and has worked in the interior design field for thirteen years. Alston is the founder of CAI Design Group, an
interior design firm based in McKinney, which specializes in space planning and
interior design for small businesses and professional office spaces.
NCIDQ® is an organization of regulatory boards and provincial associations in
the United States and Canada whose core purpose is to protect the health, safety
and welfare of the public by establishing standards of competence in the practice of interior design. More information about the organization may be found at

Interior Resources Joins GoodWeave, Earning
ChildLaborFree Label on New Jane Waggoner Collection
Dallas based Interior Resources has joined the GoodWeave certification
program, which works to end illegal childlabor inthe carpet industry and to
offer educational opportunities to children in South Asia.
A longstanding GoodWeave retailpartner, Interior Resources supplies clients

Interior Resources is also announcing a new collaboration with Dallas designer
Jane Waggoner based on Moorish patterned tiles Jane had seen on a trip to Spain.
Interior Resources staff worked with her to interpret them in rug form, creating
new and unique pieces for the showroom under the Jane Waggoner Rug Collection.
Jane Waggoner and Interior Resources are using the collection as an opportunity to better the lives of children, with 10% of proceeds donated to children’s organizations TheFamily Place and GoodWeave, earning the collection’s
tagline, “great design with a socialconscience.” “Developing a unique collection

Building Quiet Environments
at METROCON10
UltraMedia , Inc. will present a class called Building Quiet Environments at
METROCON10 on August 12 and 13, 2010. Attending this hour-long class will
earn attendees one Continuing Education Unit (CEU).
In today’s hectic and fast-paced world, homeowners need and want a space
that is peaceful and tranquil—a quiet environment where they can relax and enjoy
their home without noisy interruptions. Building Quiet Environments outlines
the fundamentals of sound control and gives examples of noise pollution affecting
today’s society. Participants will discuss key principles related to sound isolation and the “why, what, and how” of components associated with controlling
sound. Construction materials, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing considerations will also be discussed, while the participant is guided through the
step-by-step process of building a specialty room. Attendees will learn how to
locate an Electronics Systems Contractor (ESC) and what questions to ask
when partnering with an ESC.
Course presenter, Brent Thomas, said, “I’m looking forward to sharing what
I’ve learned about managing sound in homes. Each home presents a unique set
of challenges with regard to sound. But when designers, architects, and builders
are aware of these challenges going into a project, they’ll find a variety of ways
to manage it at each step along the building or remodeling process.”

Student Symposium 2010
Interior Design: Beyond The Reality Series
Reality television has taken over the airwaves programming, leaving many to
question: What is real and what is an illusion? The ASID Texas Chapter
Student Symposium 2010 – which takes place Thursday, October 14 through
Saturday, October 16, 2010 in Dallas – will bring Practitioners, Industry
Partners, Educators and Students together and back to REALITY! Interior
Design: Beyond The Reality Series promises two and a half days of real world
experiences, networking, and events for all involved.
Thursday night, Students will mingle and dine with ASID Texas Chapter Board
Members and practice their networking skills. Bright and early Friday morning,
get ready for the DESIGNER’S CHALLENGE, where Students will partner with their
peers from across the state and together create a solution to a design problem in
a quick, petit charette. Midday, EVERYONE (Practitioners, Educators, Students
and Industry Partners) is invited on the GREAT AMERICAN ROAD TRIP to tour the
new Winspear Opera House and see behind the scenes, which many patrons have
never before experienced!
Then get ready for THE AMAZING RACE! Students will have a chance to race
through showrooms on a scavenger hunt or have their portfolios and resumes
reviewed by design industry leaders. Find out what IT FACTOR professionals
are looking for in the REAL WORLD. The afternoon continues with Michael Thomas,
FASID, CAPS – interior designer, speaker, author, and 2010-2011 National ASID
President. Everyone is invited to learn and ask questions about what is happening
on the national level from the man who knows. Afterwards, you’ll want to be a
part of NO OPPORTUNITY WASTED. Texas Chapter Leaders, Practitioners, Industry
Partners, Educators, and Students will mix and mingle with one another at our
street party, which concludes Friday’s festivities.
No t h i n g s a y s “ e le g a n t ” q u i t e l i k e

On Saturday morning, students will find out what THE REAL WORLD of design
holds for them. Students will experience three quick presentations from Practitioners,
Educators, and Industry Partners in round table discussions. Have questions?
Need them answered? This affords students the opportunity of DESTINATION
TRUTH and find out what it is like to be on the other side during our Panel Discussion
with top interior designers practicing within a wide variety of design fields.
Saturday concludes with the A-LIST AWARDS. This year, ASID Texas Chapter
is offering a new scholarship format based on the merit of the student’s application, references, and activities with scholarships ranging from $1,000-$2,000.
And don’t forget about the Student Design Competition! Six categories offer
students at any level to participate and be recognized with cash prices in every

■ I have to start by saying that this has been a good year so far for our design
community, there have been ups & downs and the economy seems to be
picking up! Unfortunately, as most of you know, we have lost a very dear friend,
mentor, and long time Interior Designer and Fellow of ASID, Ellen Angel
FASID/RID passed away peacefully at her home in Corpus Christi on Sunday,
June 27th. Services were held at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home on July 8th.
Ellen was known by many and will be missed dearly by all!
■ This year the Susan Castor Collection team came together and designed a
Show House on the coast in Port Aransas, Texas. From concept to final form, the
Susan Castor Collection Beach House has been a collaboration of professionals,
each with years of experience. The weekly meetings between builder, architect
and designer have resulted in a superior home on the Texas Gulf Coast. As professionals aware of our carbon footprint, it was important for us to build a house
that fit our everyday lifestyles in a way that is healthy for nature.
Our hope is that the Beach House will be practical, casual and comfortable
for multi-generations to enjoy together or separately. The house has been
designed to maximize the views and to allow the enjoyment of the exterior
decks somewhat protected from the southeast breezes. The house features

the furniture items have been made with recycled materials. The area rugs

While the eco-conscious elements were a primary concern during building,
the home’s casual and sophisticated coastal styling was also paramount. The
Susan Castor Collection team of designers has endeavored to create an interior environment that flows from room to room while allowing the designer
some freedom of expression in each space.

■ June meeting was at Lutron showroom. We had two sessions, morning
and afternoon with a shared lunch for both groups of attendees. Two sessions
was a great solution to work with an IP who has a small showroom. Everyone
enjoyed the great food. Lutron presented “Re-Green Lighting Strategies for
Remodeling Applications” - Lighting Control and Sustainable Residential
IDCEC WELFARE Program #5621 (0.1 CEU).
■ We are starting a “Networking Happy Hour” besides the regular DDC meetings we offer. We will meet at a different restaurant location four times a year.
Our goal is to offer more networking time for our members where we all can
meet and greet other ASID members in our design community. July was our
first kick off Happy Hour meeting and we had it at VILLA-O. We had a great
turnout and enjoyed getting to know the members of our community.

■ On the 29th of June, Debbie Baxter, ASID,
IIDA, RID of Baxter Design Group lead the
designers and guests on a tour of the highrise condominium, The Broadway at the SAN ANTONIO: The Broadway
gateway to historic downtown, along Museum
Row right in the heart of San Antonio, a project Debbie and along with Baxter
Design Group Broadway team designer, Shawna Mishong, and head of Marketing
for Developer of The Broadway, Mike Reddell, have been working on since
its inception. We were lead through the beautifully appointed models, as
well as the public spaces, all designed by the Baxter Design Group, and the
unfinished penthouse on the top of this 20 story building. We were treated
to valet parking and hors d'oeuvres as we gathered to make the tour.
What an experience for the ASID group to see this very handsome interior
design project and many thanks to The Broadway and to Baxter Design Group.
■ On the 13th of July Peggy Arnold, RID owner of Footprint Commercial
Flooring, and Alan Petlin of Gourmet Flooring and IP member, hosted a CEPH
HSW course given on sustainable bamboo. Seventeen designers showed
up to take this course, and to show their support and gratitude to Alan Petlin
who has long been an ASID supporter. Many thanks to Alan Petlin and Peggy
Arnold.
■ The September 22nd meeting will be held at the University of the Incarnate
Word, and will be a joint meeting with IIDA. Dr. Asha Hedge is a professor
of lighting at Texas State University. The course will be given on "Light and
the Aging Eye". She is dynamic, and the students from UIW and UTSA will be
invited to attend.
■ In October Christi Palmer, ASID, RID of Palmer Todd, a kitchen showroom
will be the new chair. Palmer Todd is also an Industry Partner. Lynley Serratt,
Allied Member ASID and this year's financial chair will continue as financial
chair. We look forward to having these members as leaders! Lynley is on
the staff of Palmer Todd!
■ The San Antonio Design Community feels a deep sense of loss at Ellen
Angell, FASID's passing. Ellen was such a familiar and supportive friend to
ASID and a leader in the interior design profession.
I met her years ago while serving on the State Board, and as many of her
generation was such a wonderful mentor. We all should strive to share our
knowledge and support younger members as did Ellen. She will be greatly
missed.
