DXB UPDATE 08 MOVIE NIGHT V olunteer work is increasing in the UAE. People are becoming more conscious about the importance of helping others in order to promote equality and unity among the community. Shukran workers is a non-profit organization based in Dubai which aims to bring together the community of laborers and domestic workers by providing unique and memorable experiences. BARBIE WORLD By: Abigail Barbasa READ. SEPTEMBER 06 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2015 Monique Lhuillier , 2006 B arbie! Did your childhood years flash back when you read that? Well I know mine did when I heard that Mall of the Emirates teamed up with Barbie in celebration of the establishment’s 10th anniversary! Decked out in designer clothing and adorned with matching jewelleries and accessories, the world’s most iconic doll takes the spotlight at the first ever haute couture Barbie® Collector exhibition in the region. Of course I just had to see it for myself and you can too until the 8th of September! The collection features 24 limited-edition Barbie® dolls each in stunning hand-crafted designer outfits inspired by signature looks from iconic catwalk shows over the past 50 years. I managed to chat with Barbie spokesperson Jagoda Rozkrut about the iconic dolls and here’s what she has to say about them. But before that, I’m going to tell you now; these beautiful babies are unfortunately not for sale. According to her, “These are collector dolls from private collections which were introduced to the market through collaborations. These are official collaborations between Barbie and fashion designers. They were produced in very limited number of pieces and they’ve been collected through many years.” These dolls were produced in less than 900 pieces each worldwide, although it also depends on the doll of course, as some of it were produced in quantities much less than that. Following the success of their previous movie nights, Shukran Workers announces another series in Dubai. Prakarti Lakhwani, co-founder of Shukran Workers says that, “A movie is a form of entertainment and it is this simple pleasure that we want to recreate for them, giving every member of our society a chance to give back.” “Shukran Workers is our brain child, which we created with the sole purpose to give back to the community in the most fun & simple ways,” adds Mohit Bhojwani, co-founder of Shukran Workers. The voluntary group currently runs events for construction workers & domestic workers every season. As part of the movie night series Shukran Workers have organized a movie night last August 28th and September 4th and they have one more left for in this series, which will take place on the 11th. Each session showcases movies of different languages (Hindi and English). The event which was first created in April 2015 was able to attract a full house, revealing the need to continue to arrange regular events and to reach out to all communities of workers in Dubai. Shukran Workers also announced their plans to organize various events designed to bring a smile to the faces of the workers and encourage the community to participate. The movie night taking place on the 11thof September is for the Domestic Workers, and will be taking place at the Holiday Inn Bur Dubai, which will cater specifically for the female workers, where they will be provided with free dinner and a goodie bag, all thanks to the generous sponsors of the event. You can register yourself or your domestic helper for free, by calling 050 135 1256 or visiting their Facebook page www.facebook.com/ Shukranworkers The collection was a bit diverse so I had to ask her about the selection process, she said “First we looked into which dolls were available for us and from there we chose the dolls which reflect the designers which are housed here in Mall of the Emirates. We really wanted it to be in tie up with the mall.” The belle of the ball would be Barbie in renowned Middle Eastern designer Zuhair Murad’s black and nude piece undoubtedly. But the collection also features outfits from other notable fashion houses such as Hervé Léger, Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Monique Lhuillier, Versace and Christian Louboutin. I personally had my dibs on Barbie in Kate Spade ensemble because it came with a puppy! Our little chat concluded on a note that as she puts it, “We need to remember that Barbie is so important for girls because it gives the girls the opportunity to be anything they want through role play. There is a lot of going on for Barbie and a lot more is going to happen in the future. This year we introduced to the market a collection of diverse Fashionista dolls which express the world girls sees around them and the changing cultural landscape. The dolls have a various variety of skin tones, colour of the eyes, hairstyles and outfits so girls can really express themselves through fashion.” Since her original introduction in 1959, Barbie has evolved to represent more than 40 different nationalities with various eye and hair colours and skin tones. Changing the way we usually perceive the iconic fashion doll as a fair skinned blonde or brunette. For those like me who grew up with a Barbie in hand, it’s a perfect chance to reminisce those childhood times. The little ones on the other hand, can experience the glamorous world of the modern-day rock star with Barbie® Rock’n Royals from the 9th of September until the 14th. Young girls can get all glammed up and sparkly with nail art and temporary motif tattoos at the Barbie Hand Spa. They can also pretend to be a pop star for a day with their group of friends getting ready for a stage show. FOOD 10 BONJOUR! What: La Serre Bistro & Boulangerie Where: Vida Hotel, Downtown Dubai want to, without it being too soggy or salty. We also tried their Smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese, which if you’re not a big eater, is good enough for two persons. It was crunchy, yet soft and the contrast of the flavours was just flawless. We were advised to try their granola and French toast, which were a perfect match, the granola itself were marinated in honey, which makes it perfect and sweet within itself, I preferred it with a scoop of yogurt. The French toast was just right, with its crunchy exterior and soft caramelized bread. This place is definitely a great place to hang out, relax and enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. It’s also a great way to make the most out of your day, as you can head over to Dubai Mall after your meal. READ. SEPTEMBER 06 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2015 W eekends are always something we look forward to; it’s the days we get to relax, sleep in and lounge around the house all day. It’s also the days we get to bond more with the people we love, whether it’s our parents, friends, or loved ones; it’s the perfect opportunity to unwind after a stressful week at work, and to catch up on stories or gossip. One way to do this, is to have a nice Friday breakfast or brunch, and what better way to ensure that it’s stress free, than to pick the perfect place. The things to look out for are a perfect ambience, good food and of course a great location for ‘Instagram worthy’ images, after all a good picture is the right way to capture a moment. It’s also a great way to share that delicious food you’ll be feasting on. We’ve got the perfect spot for you, as La Serre Bistro and Boulangerie cover all of that, and more! Stepping into the Parisian-style cafe, it’s as if we stepped out of Dubai, with its white walls, marbled countertops and rustic tables and chairs and with fresh pastries displayed casually, we knew the moment we stepped in that we were going to have a relaxing breakfast. It also helps that they have one side of glassed wall, which really brightens up the place, bringing in a lot of natural light. Their breakfast menu isn’t overwhelming; they have just the right amount of dishes to choose from, so that you won’t have to fidget over the dishes. A Parisian breakfast isn’t complete without Eggs Benedict, which is one of the dishes we ordered, it was soft and cooked just the way you would SALTED CARAMEL MILKSHAKE Yields: 2 cups Prep time: 5 Minutes Ingredients: tDVQTBCPVUTDPPQT QBDLFE vanilla ice cream tDVQNJMLPSXIPMFNJML tUBCMFTQPPOTTBMUFEDBSBNFMTZSVQ tQJFDFT%BSL$IPDPMBUFBOETFBTBMU caramel squares t8IJQQFEDSFBN$IPDPMBUFTQSJOLMFT Procedure: 1. SEPTEMBER 06 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2015 he school season has begun and it’s another year to accomplish.. Some of you may have mixed emotions and others are pretty excited for it. Either way, the beginning of another journey and of course your next few years in the academe should never be boring. You mommies out there may be trying to figure out how to make the start of the school week a fun one for your little ones, and the student readers out there, you’re probably excited to finally showcase your newest and coolest set of stationaries to your classmates. That’s how it usually goes when you’re back in class, let’s not deny that. So here are some fun and quirky DIY back to school ideas! It’s time to get crafty and funky! HERE ARE TWO CRAFTY IDEAS THAT WILL KEEP YOU INSPIRED THROUGHOUT YOUR SCHOOL YEAR! 1. CUSTOMISED NOTEBOOKS AND PENS/PENCILS WITH WASHI TAPE! There are a gazillion things you can do with a washi tape. We could list them down for you, but it will be endless so let’s cut it into the easiest way to use your washi tape. WASHI TAPE PENCILS Simply wrap around those tapes around your pencils and you have something as good as new! WASHI TAPE NOTEBOOKS Simply choose your desired washi tape design and stick them on the cover of your notebook in your desired manner. Easy as ABC and also, mess free! YOUR VERY OWN GOAL LIST BOARD It’s important to keep the fuel of enthusiasm once you get back to school. And what better way to do that than to create your own board with a list of weekly goals. This way, you’ll always be focused and seeing that you’ve marked off everything on your list for the week is always a great feeling! All you need are sticky notes and cardboards and a dash of your creativity to create your very own designed goal board. BACK TO SCHOOL PREPARATIOONS FOR MOMMIES By www.dudemom.com 1. Get up early. I know, this one is gonna be a beast for everyone, but if you want to make sure your kids are on time and in gear, you have to make sure you have enough time to wash the ick out of your mouth and slam enough tumblers of coffee to ensure your own coherence. Get up and handle that before it’s time for them to join you and you will probably be a happier more patient person. Your kids may even grace you with a smile or two before school! 2. Prep ahead. Lay out the clothing and pack the backpacks the night before. Make lunch ahead if you’re cool with soggy bread life. Get everything that can be preemptively organized, so there are fewer possibilities of forgetting something important on the day. 3. Have a real talk about the first day. This is a particularly important tip if you are the mom to a worrier like I am. Get to bed early, cuddle up, even if they work your ears off with their questions, answer everything you can truthfully and make up the rest. I am sort of awesome at storytelling so it works. 4. Give yourself some extra time. By mid September we will be squeaking out all of the moments we can in the bed before school, but for the first week ,we like to make sure we have ample time to make getting ready seem like less of a chore. I wake them up 15 minutes earlier than necessary so they have some time on the backend to lounge around and get their minds right for the big day. They might even get crazy and brush their hair pretty if we move expeditiously enough. 5. Promise not to cry. It is a promise you may very well break, and that’s cool, but if you tell yourself you won’t do it, there is an ever so slightly greater chance that you won’t be all snotty nosed and puffy eyed when you meander to the bus stop or pull through the drop off line. HOW TO COPE UP WITH BACK TO SCHOOL ANXIETY HERE ARE A FEW TIPS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH BACK TO SCHOOL ANXIETY WITH YOUR KIDS. 1. ALWAYS LOOK OUT ON YOUR KIDS. Make sure your child is getting enough sleep, eating healthy, exercising and having fun. When kids are properly nourished, they can feel less anxious and can tackle on school worries easier. W hile many are excited to go back to school and see their friends again, there are also a lot of students who suffer anxiety. Anxious feelings are normal especially during the times of transition or change. Although they may be normal, this should not be taken lightly. It’s very important to watch out for your kids especially teens if they are going through this type of trouble as these feelings can be disruptive not only for the child, but for the family too. Children worry about a lot of things when going back to school such as “what if my teachers don’t like me?”, “will I fit in?” or “what if I don’t make any friends?” 2. EMPATHISE. It’s very important to always listen to what your child is saying. What may sound silly to you, may sound serious to them. Let them talk about their fears and worries without any judgement. Most of the time, kids only want someone who will listen to them and not lecture them. 3. FOCUS ON THE SOLUTION. By this time, you already know what’s bothering your child you can start developing a coping plan. Look at the problem and focus on how you’re going to solve it and then execute the solution. Anxious youth are often poor problem solvers and they doubt their ability to cope so it’s important to be there for them and guide them by letting them know that there will always be solutions to any kind of problem. 4. BE POSITIVE. If you want to start having a conversation with your kids, begin by talking about a topic that he/she likes. From here onwards, you may be encouraging your child to slowly open up to you without them realizing it. Always shower them with words on encouragement too and redirect their worries to the positives. TIPS FOR SUMMER HAIR CARE Dr. Dimitrios Ziakas, M.D., DHI clinic UAE We have all experienced a bad hair day! Sun, heat, and humidity, not to mention chlorine and salt water — challenging all hair types, from curly to wavy to straight, leaving some of us with unmanageable, dry and even damaged hair. While all of these are reasons enough to lead to a bad hair day and cause long-term damage, a little pre-emptive care is all your hair needs to stay lush and beautiful! Here are some tips to make sure you have luscious hair all throughout summer. DETOX Hair care starts with YOU. Maintain a wellbalanced diet in your daily routine. For example, a high intake of dietary fat can increase oil on the skin which can lead to greasy hair, so it’s best to avoid it. Include as many fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet as you can to maintain those lustrous locks. GINGHAM STYLE 10 ESSENTIAL LOVE 15 We loved seeing this lovable plaid pattern, also known as gingham, grace the runways for this year’s spring season. Nonetheless, it’s still a fashion staple, even though summer is about to end and fall is nearing our midst. So without further ado, let these stylish bloggers show you exactly how you can rock your own gingham OOTD. USE A SHOWER FILTER Using a shower filter helps remove any impurities in water which can directly damage the hair follicle. MINIMIZE STRESS OR DE-STRESS Stress is a key factor that aids in hair loss. Whether or not hair loss is genetic, stress can work as a trigger to speed up the hair loss process. GOOD HYGIENE By maintaining your hygiene, your body is more prone to absorb Vitamin D levels and promote healthy hair growth. This can be done through having a healthy diet, exercise and shower regularly. Your hair, and your skin, will benefit immensely from the amount of water you drink so, keeping your hair healthy and leaving you hydrated. BRUSH YOUR HAIR Brush your hair regularly. This will minimize tangles and prevent breakage (which can lead to split ends) that can occur when you brush your hair post-shower and can have a great effect on your hair volume in the long run. MINIMISE USE OF HAIR PRODUCTS Minimise the use of hair products, such as gels, hairspray or any other product that may have high sulphates. These products directly cause dryness to the hair and make it weak. TAKE PRECAUTIONS Be aware of any balding or thinning areas on your scalp. This can happen as early as your 20s, so if you’re noticing this, make an appointment and DHI can provide you with a solution. DO YOUR RESEARCH If you are looking into hair restoration, know it’s a lifetime investment. Do your research and consult your doctors at DHI before making a decision. TRAVEL Even in an island paradise, the evidence that one is in an Islamic country is all around you. We notice the Maldiven women wearing hijabs or niqabs (headscarves) as a reflection of their faith and dedication to modesty. Local men also make efforts to dress with modesty in mind as they walk alongside each other in their long white shirts, pants, and caps. According to the constitution, it’s impossible for a non-Muslim to be considered a citizen of the Maldives. Having traveled through Indonesia and Malaysia earlier in the year, the local dress wasn’t anything we took notice of other than to sympathize with those having to deal with the equatorial sun in all that clothing. 16 MALDIVES: WHERE THE OCEAN HAS NO MEMORY By: Matthew Mansfield T READ. SEPTEMBER 06 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2015 he influence of Sunni Islam in the Maldives is evident before our plane even touches down on the tarmac at Male’s Ibrahim Nasir International Airport. The Cathay Pacific flight attendants hands us custom forms where we read the rules against entering the country with pornography, alcohol, firearms, and pork products. After disembarking and finding the driver for the transit hotel, we make our way to the counter for the Conrad Maldives to confirm our travel to the resort the following morning by seaplane. Due to our late flight from Hong Kong, we prearranged to stay at what’s known as a ‘transit’ hotel outside the capital of Male. A great number of visitors make use of the transit hotels for a night before heading to their intended resort destination. The vast majority of the 8 million annual foreign visitors never make it beyond the airport or the transit hotels to the many islands scattered throughout the Indian Ocean. In total, about 1900 or more coral islands compose the island nation of the Maldives. The local population’s ethnic identity originates either from Southern India or Sri Lanka and represents a long history of maritime history and culture. With a history of inhabitation stretching back thousands of years, this island destination has been known to a great many travelers who brought with them their commerce and new ideas of thought and religion in exchange for cowry shells(1). For a long period of time, the Maldives was a Buddhist stronghold before the introduction of Sunni Islam in the 12th century by Arab traders. CONRAD MALDIVES RESORT One of the highlights at the Conrad is snorkeling with the marine life around the coral reefs on the far side of the main island. While swimming over the reefs you feel this great sense of discovery at the world opening up beneath the waves. The deafening sound of coral being eaten, with a snap and pop by schools of fish with such exquisite composites of color only a painter or poet could dream of, that permeates the silence of the sea. There are moments where you feel entirely helpless as the ocean’s current slowly pulls you out by the force of an invisible hand beneath the waves. Each entry into the beguiling surf stiffens our confidence as we begin to swim farther afield from the safe, white sand beaches to the edge of the abyss where the coral drops into the dark deep. It’s in these quiet and dense parts of the ocean, where even a few lone rays of the sun are seldom permitted, where we make a tacit bargain with the sea to witness its fragile beauty. Across the sharpened edges of orange, white, and brown coral we find ourselves swimming amidst a school of sapphire colored fish, catching sight of a solemn puffer fish or finding ourselves facing the benign grace of a shy reef shark the majestic nature of it all never stops; even after leaving the water. This event is a haven for all gamers, it features the latest video games sponsored by video game leaders such as Sony Playstation and Xbox and so on. Fans will have the chance to get hands on with the latest games, some ahead of their release dates. READ managed to get a hold of one of the organisers of the big gaming event, who delves deep into what we can expect. WOULD YOU SEE GAMES 15 (OR GAMES 16, 17, ETC) FOR THAT MATTER BECOME SOMETHING SIMILAR IN SCOPE AND MAGNITUDE TO E3 OR GAMESCOM OR PAX? That is definitely the plan! We want to develop the Games Middle East brand into the gaming event for the region, incorporating the best elements of the biggest international events, while adding our special vibe that gives attendees the opportunity to have a great weekend out. WOULD “GAMES” EVER BE A PLATFORM FOR LAUNCHING CERTAIN GLOBALLYANTICIPATED TITLES? As we grow, we want to grow that aspect of Games Middle East the most. We already have a couple of publisher level guests at the event that will be making announcements that would be global firsts this year, so there is already an element of that READ. SEPTEMBER 06 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2015 DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP CHANGE THAT? What a lot of people don’t realise is that we are all gamers now in some form or the other (everyone probably plays a game at least on their smart device) Games, like other entertainment mediums, are becoming a platform to express views and make statements, move you emotionally and much more. As we have been doing for the popculture community with Middle East Film and Comic Con, we have to broaden the audience for the Games Middle East events in the region and develop the appreciation for gaming my more individuals – especially for the many developer that we have based out of the region. HEALTH ARE YOU DEHYDRATED? 20 Just because you aren’t feeling thirsty, doesn’t mean that your body doesn’t need or want water, one of the quickest ways to tell if you are indeed dehydrated is by monitoring your fluid loss by checking the colour of your urine. It should be pale yellow and not dark yellow, too smelly or cloudy. Below is a simple chart guide or urine colours and what they may indicate. TRANSPARENT SLEEPING DILEMMAS I f you’re having trouble sleeping, don’t worry, because you’re not alone. According to statistics, 22% of people sleep poorly at night, 47% of people say stress or worry is what keeps them awake at night and none too surprisingly, 49% of people have never taken steps to help them sleep better. It’s an old wives tale that counting sheep and listening to lullabies will send you off to dreamland, but then again, if it does work, it can only get you so far. Here are some common bedtime mistakes you might not even be aware you’re doing, and how to avoid them. READ. SEPTEMBER 06 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2015 CAFFEINATED MIDNIGHT SNACKING Caffeine is a stimulant and in moderate doses, can block sleep neurotransmitters causing insomnia. Refined sugars can stress the organs in charge of hormone regulation – causing you to wake in the night as your levels fluctuate. Solution: Snack on foods that contain tryptophan. This amino acid is needed by the body to produce serotonin, which in turn makes melatonin – a hormone that helps control your sleep cycles. Foods that are high in tryptophan include yogurt, milk, banana, eggs and turkey. SLEEP DEBT There’s a common misconception about sleep debt: you accumulate lost hours of sleep that you can pay back later on, and your body will be fine. Solution: Sleep debt isn’t a straight balance. Most people only usually need two or three good night’s sleep, to get back to normal after a serious sleep deprivation. SLEEPING WITH PETS According to research, 63% of pet owners who share their bed or bedroom with their pets, experience poor sleep quality. Solution: Keep your pets in a different room. If they’re exceptionally noisy, consult your vet to rule out any medical problems – they might be making sleep mistakes themselves! HITTING THE SNOOZE BUTTON Any extra sleep you get is fragmented, making it low quality. OVERNIGHT BREAKFAST Ingredients: 1 cup / 125 g fresh or thawed frozen raspberries 1 pinch ground vanilla 3 tbsp desiccated coconut, unsweetened 3 tbsp chia seeds 1 cup / 240 ml plant milk (we prefer almond, coconut or oat milk) Toppings: Nut butter, Hemp seeds, Kiwi, Fresh mint You also prepare the body for a new sleep cycle that you won’t have time to finish, resulting in fatigue throughout the day. Solution: Set your alarm for when you actually need to get up. Try to set it for the same time every day, this regularity will hopefully mean you should wake up without the need for an alarm. TECH BED 78% of people use a smartphone, tablet or laptop before going to bed. However, these gadgets emit blue light, which is said to delay the production of melatonin, the sleep-inducing hormone. Solution: Give yourself a tech curfew and move your electronic devices out of the bedroom altogether. LEAVING THE T.V. ON 38% of people watch TV to wind down for sleep. However, watching T.V. before bedtime encourages you to stay up later, harming the sleep cycle and leading to poor quality sleep. Solution: Keep T.V.’s out of the bedroom. Alternatively, listen to the radio to help yourself fall asleep. Instructions: Mash the berries in a bowl using a fork. Add vanilla, coconut and chia seeds and combine. Pour over the milk and mix. Set aside to soak for minimum 30 minutes or overnight in the fridge. Serve in a bowl or jar topped with nut butter, hemp seeds, fruit and mint. You’re drinking a lot of water, you may want to cut back. PALE STRAW COLOUR You’re normal, healthy and dehydrated. TRANSPARENT YELLOW You’re normal. DARK YELLOW Normal, but drink some water soon. AMBER OR HONEY Your body isn’t getting enough water. Drink some now. SYRUP OR BROWN ALE You could have liver disease or severe dehydration. Drink water and see your doctor if it persists. PINK TO REDDISH Recently been eating blueberries rhubarb or beets? If not, contact your doctor it might be some urinary tract infection or prostate problem. ORANGE You may not be drinking enough water or you could have a liver or bile duct condition, or it could be food dye. Contact your doctor. PURPLE There’s no such thing as purple urine. Note: If you are taking medications, it may make your urine darker than normal. It is best you see your doctor or ask him about this when taking in any new medications. CAREERS don’t try to mask it with a fake sense of confidence. This kind of knowledge breeds self-awareness, a main factor of emotional intelligence and an important trait that most employers look for. 21 BEING A KNOW-IT-ALL Many candidates believe that they need to have the answers to almost every question. The reality is different though. Your ability to say “I don’t know” to a question can be appealing to many employers. It shows that you are genuine and that you don’t try to pretend that you know everything. Employers want to hire independent and self-sufficient people who can go the extra mile to find solutions. Acting like a knowit-all can hinder your chances of finding a good job. YOU HAVE A BAD ONLINE REPUTATION J ob searches are all about positioning yourself as the top candidate. We all know the common mistakes that we should avoid when applying to jobs. Whether it’s a badly formatted CV, arriving late for the interview or bad mouthing previous employers, these are some of the bad moves that can stand in your way of landing the job. However, there are a lot of other things that you may not have considered but can be equally damaging to your image. Akhtaboot is here to highlight the top 5 job seeker behaviors that might be turning off employers! YOU’RE NOT LIKABLE Personal characteristics are usually not part of the job description. But when it comes down to choosing the ideal candidate, the deciding factor may actually be “likability”. No one wants to work with an arrogant, negative, troublemaker who won’t be able to get along with his colleagues. So if you fail to highlight your ability to get along with your team, don’t expect a call back. employer; do you want to hire the person with the amazing track record, a great personality and the potential to grow within the company? Or do you want to hire the angry, frustrated candidate whose primary concern is to simply get paid? Eagerness to learn and grow impresses an employer; desperation is a major turnoff. SOUNDING TOO DESPERATE NEVER ADMITTING WEAKNESSES Job search is a long, demanding process that is filled with disappointments. Even if you’ve been looking for a job for several months with no success, you shouldn’t let your frustration show during interviews. Think like an While displaying self-confidence is a good trait when it comes to job search, going overboard with power games during interviews can take a toll on your likability. Buts social media can be your best friend and your worst enemy. Many employers these days research candidates on social media and networking websites hoping to learn more about how candidates behave online. Your personal brand is reflected in any posts you’ve written, your pictures and comments. Employers prefer candidates who have consistent online and offline images. ENTERTAINMENT 23 THE IRON GIANT, HINTS AT SEQUEL LISTINGS MIRDIF CITY CENTRE Vin Diesel thinks there will be a sequel The Iron Giant. The actor used his Facebook page to promote The Iron Giant: Signature Edition, which is a Blu-ray release of the 1999 movie. The Signature Edition trailer was captioned with the revelation that the titular Iron Giant is one of Diesel’s favourite characters. “I have been very lucky to have played so many interesting characters... one of the first and one of my favourites is... the Iron Giant.” Diesel teased The Iron Giant sequel in a postscript for the caption. “Don’t be surprised when you hear [Warner Bros.] announce the sequel.” It’s difficult to tell whether Diesel is joking, hoping, or actually announcing something. He has used his Facebook page in the past to announce a sequel to Riddick, but even if there isn’t a sequel to The Iron Giant, he still has similarly succinct voice work as Groot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. BILL MURRAY ON GHOSTBUSTERS REBOOT APPEARANCE Vulture spoke to Murray this weekend and asked him what changed his mind after all these years. “I thought about it for a very long time,” Murray said. “Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really … It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls, and then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].” Murray also acknowledged that for decades he wasn’t interested in returning to the world of the Ghostbusters. “That’s true, I wasn’t,” Murray said, while pointing to talent like Wiig and McCarthy as one of the reasons that he changed his mind. “I like those girls a lot,” he said. “I mean, I really do. They are tough to say no to, and Paul is a real nice fellow.” Ghostbusters will be released on July 15, 2016. Andrew Garfield, who played Spider-Man for two films, says he was pushing for the character to go under the Marvel umbrella long before the deal was struck. The actor told Uproxx that he’s excited to see the Marvel take on Spider-Man, now that Sony and Marvel Studios have struck a deal to cross their universes. “I’ve been petitioning to hook up with Marvel since the beginning, so I’m really glad they’re finally doing it,” he said. He also maintained that he was never in talks to continue as the character, but declined to say more. If the Amazing SpiderMan franchise had continued, Garfield said it would’ve gone to “some pretty heavy places” following the dire events of the second movie, but he seems at ease with his part as the character ending. “It wasn’t meant to be,” he said. “As I say, I’m just really excited that I get to watch.” 11:45pm Loham (Malayalam) – 10:00am 4:00pm 10:00pm Southpaw – 11:00am 3:55pm 8:40pm We Are Your Friends – 1:45pm 6:30pm 11:15pm Inside Out – 10:00am 2:30pm 7:00pm Fantastic Four – 12:35pm 5:05pm 9:35pm BURJUMAN MALL No Escape - 10:30am 12:50pm 3:10pm 5:30pm 7:50pm 10:10pm 0:30am Hitman: Agent 47 - 11:15am 1:20pm 3:30pm 5:35pm 7:45pm 9:50pm 0:00am Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation – 10:00am 12:45pm 3:30pm 6:15pm 9:00pm 11:45pm Loham (Malayalam) - 10:15am 1:10pm 4:05pm 7:00pm 9:55pm 0:50am All Is Well (Hindi) - 9:30am 12:20pm 3:10pm 6:00pm 8:55pm 11:45pm JLAW AND AMY SCHUMER TEAM UP Brothers (Hindi) - 10:15am 1:45pm 5:15pm 8:45pm 0:15am DEIRA CITY CENTRE Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation - 10:15am 1:00pm 3:45pm 6:30pm 9:15pm 0:00am Fantastic Four – 10:00am 2:45pm 7:30pm 0:15am The Love Affair – 10:25am 4:35pm 10:45pm Hitman: Agent 47 - 10:15am 12:30pm 2:45pm 5:00pm 7:15pm 9:30pm 11:45pm We Are Your Friends – 10:00am 2:30pm 7:00pm The Hunger Games’ Jennifer Lawrence and Trainwreck’s Amy Schumer, are teaming up for a new comedy which they are writing together and plan on starring in. According to The New York Times, the two stars are currently writing the film. “We play sisters,” said Lawrence, who’s in the midst of promoting The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2. “We’re almost done writing,” she said. “It just flowed out of us. We’ve got about 100 pages right now.” Lawrence added that they’re working with Schumer’s sister Kim, who helped out with the scripting of Trainwreck, and the Mystique actress seems particularly excited about the comedy project. “Amy and I were creatively made for each other,” Lawrence said. “We have different flavours. It’s been the most fun experience of my life.” As for how the two even teamed up in the first place, it seems Lawrence e-mailed Schumer after seeing Trainwreck. “We started emailing, and then emailing turned to texting,” said the actress. 11:30pm Loham (Malayalam) - 9:45am 12:40pm 3:35pm 6:30pm 9:25pm 0:20am MALL OF THE EMIRATES No Escape - 11:30am 2:00pm 4:30pm 6:50pm 9:10pm 11:30pm Ant Man – 7:15pm 9:45pm 0:30am Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation - 11:45am 2:30pm 5:15pm 8:00pm 9:00pm 10:45pm 11:45pm Southpaw - 10:00am 12:45pm 3:30pm 6:15pm 9:00pm 11:40pm Inside Out – 10:45am 1:00pm 3:15pm We Are Your Friends - 10:15am 12:15pm 2:15pm 4:15pm 6:15pm 8:15pm 10:15pm 0:15am DUBAI MALL Fantastic Four - 11:50am 2:00pm 4:10pm 6:20pm 8:30pm 10:40pm 12:50am Hitman: Agent 47 - 2:05pm 4:20pm 6:35pm 8:50pm 11:05pm 1:20am No Escape - 2:35pm 4:50pm 7:05pm 9:20pm 11:35pm 1:50am We Are Your Friends - 11:40am 1:45pm 3:50pm 5:55pm 8:00pm 10:05pm 12:10am Southpaw - 12:05pm 2:40pm 5:15pm 7:50pm 10:25pm 1:00am Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation – 11:50am 2:30pm 5:10pm 7:50pm 10:30pm 1:10am READ. SPIETH DROPS DOWN ROSBERG SPORTS J ordan Spieth missing cut at The Barclays means that he will lose his world number one ranking, making his first stint as No 1 the shortest in golfing history. The 22-yearold was making his first start after climbing on top of Rory McIlroy by being runner-up at the PGA Championship and would have retained top spot with a tied-14th finish or better at Plainfield, but suffered an early exit after an error-filled couple of rounds. Spieth’s latest missed cut was only his third in 22 starts over the year of 2015, but it threw him down back to world No 2 below the Norther Irishman. 33 DE GEA STAYS AT UNITED SEEKS POLE N M READY TO RUMBLE J osh Strauss and John Hardie have been named in the Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup. They will then go against the United States in Leeds before Vern Cotter’s side take on South Africa and then Samoa in Newcastle. “We’re very pleased to name the 31 and we’re confident these players will represent Scotland well in the Rugby World Cup,” Cotter stated. “It’s been a tough but rewarding two months. We’re proud of the effort everyone has put in to this point. anchester United is blaming Real Madrid for the collapse of David de Gea’s proposed move to the Spanish club before the transfer deadline. The Spaniard will now remain at Old Trafford until the next transfer season in January at least after paperwork problems meant his £29.5 transfer broke down minutes before the deadline. Madrid on the other hand, stated their part of the story pointing fingers at United over delays firstly in opening talks and then in processing documents for Keylor Navas, the Costa Rica ‘keeper United demanded as part of the deal. But the Red Devils insisted that there were no talks on the matter until Real submitted a bid, something they say did not happen until the same day the transfer doors close. NOT A BAD BOY Nick Kyrgios insisted that his bad-boy reputation is ridiculous but admits he has learned the merits of keeping his mouth shut. Kyrgios was defeated by Andy Murray 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in the US Open first round Last week to end a chaotic month for the 20-year-old. The Australian made some vulgar remarks about Stan Wawrinka’s girlfriend. However Kyrgios has expressed regret for his exchange with Wawrinka but insisted he felt no embarrassment for what happened. “I’d like to think that I’m going to learn from it. I think I have.” said Kyrgios. Andy Murray on the other hand, admitted that he had to keep his focus during his four-set victory over Nick Kyrgios. READ. SEPTEMBER 06 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2015 ico Rosberg has claimed that he can’t afford getting any position other than the pole at Monza as he seeks to overcome a 28-point deficit in the championship. Apparently, the German had an edge on his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton as they were practicing at Spa a couple of weeks ago, but when it mattered in qualifying it was the other Mercedes driver who secured pole position. Rosberg has only beaten Hamilton once this year in qualifying. “The race in Spa was definitely disappointing. My start was not good so I need to work on that and also on finding those extra tenths in qualifying to get back on top there.” said Rosberg. Editorial Danielle Hosri Chief editor Arnold Pinto Publisher Mae Cabigas Wissam Aoun ARIES TAURUS GEMINI Some days move along lickety-split, some days just don’t. No need to read anything into it. It’s the nature of space and time to be a little erratic. And, sure enough, you’re going to be running around like the proverbial headless chicken. You’re feeling so good at the start of the week. And you don’t know what to do with yourself. The sun will be shining on you. Butterflies are going to follow you around. Birds will chirp in your ears. This is the beginning of a long, exciting week. You thought this was going to be smooth sailing. Turns out, the water is choppier than you expected. Communicate what you feel and need. There are enough hands on deck to help you get through and there are a lot of good things on the horizon. CANCER LEO VIRGO You are charming in any social situation, but dinner parties are where you especially shine. Remember, though: Sometimes saying very little is more alluring. And this is just going to be one of those weeks when you don’t feel like saying a whole lot. The system is big and complicated, and it’s important you don’t get stuck in the middle. Make your intentions known. This is your career you’re talking about. You have more than a small stake in it. And it’s not an act of arrogance to assert yourself. This week, you’re going to be lost in philosophical ideas. It’s an unusual headspace for you, and you may find yourself eating in unusual places, too. Nevertheless, you’re going to get a lot done. Even in your dreamiest state, you’re remarkably productive. LIBRA SCORPIO SAGITTARIUS Just because the outward world is fine and dandy doesn’t mean that the people around you are fine and dandy. Some of the people in your life are going to be downright cranky. That’s just about the last thing you need. Be nice, but avoid them at all costs. Whatever you’re feeling, try to be open to this other person at the outset of the week. This is not a business relationship, this is a personal relationship, and there’s a huge difference, which you’ll notice on Wednesday and Thursday. Feeling a tad overwhelmed? Make yourself a to-do list and get cracking! Once you start crossing things off your list you’ll feel so much better. When things have calmed down a bit, a friend is going to invite you out for a night on the town. An old relative is going to try to contact you, probably via an unexpected phone call. They’re just calling to say hi, but in the course of the conversation you’re going to learn something that makes you think of them in a whole new way. An old love letter is going to come to mind, and it’s going to start you pining for a romance that ended quite a while ago. Weird how the past continues to live on in the present, isn’t it? And isn’t it funny to think about all of the things you used to be so sure of?
