By: Krista Doran There are always new cover bands joining the local scene. Some offer much of the same, while others add their own touches and do something a little different. It’s not easy being “unique” when you are a cover band. After all, these musicians are playing other people’s music. But there are things a band can do to stand out and when this happens, it really makes going to see them worthwhile. I have had the privilege if seeing many cover bands over the years and some have been quite impressive. In all of the years I have been doing this, one band always stands out to me. The music is always spot on, with great tempo and energy. The vocals are amazing and sung with so much feeling. The best thing about it is the ambiance and overall feeling that this band sends through the air, as if almost electric. The band I am speaking of is no other than Gypsy Wisdom! GW erupted five years ago when lead singer Courtney, Danny and Joey left The Crew. They wanted to put together a band that would make people stop and take notice and they have succeeded! Courtney explained, “We found John Mangan sharing his skills as a sub player in Philly. And Joseph Horak was a Craigslist scoop up as he was putting it out there one more time before hanging it up. It was all so very meant to be!” They play such an eclectic mix of music, ranging from Elvis to Taylor Swift and from Johnny Cash to Aerosmith and The Beatles to Nikki Minaj and One Direction. This is a band that is very strategic in what they play and where. Courtney went on to say, “Everything really depends on the crowd. We try to read the vibe. For a lighter start maybe we’ll hit with a mid tempo Maroon 5. If the party is already good and warmed up we might jump right in with a high energy Bruno Mars. Ev- erything in between is felt. We feed off the fans and find that rhythm where we can bounce off each other. We’re a little silly and spontaneous at times. And sometimes we celebrate real things like our friend, Raechel, who lost her battle with cancer. We met her beautiful smile and her amazing family at a CHOP event and made friends for life. We have a picture of Raechel at every show and when we introduce her to a crowd, the smiles light up. We have a survivor in our guitar player, Joe Horak, who is now in remission. He is an inspiration to everyone who watches in awe as he effortlessly rips solos night after night.” Something that truly sets GW apart from everyone is their genuine belief in how the power of music has the ability to lighten up the hardest of times. Courtney explained, “We’ve learned the beauty of the boomerang. What we put out comes back to us. When we bring our energy, our pas- sion, and our smiles to a stage, it all comes back to us from a the dance floor. We’ve shared newly married couple’s first dance bliss and we’ve seen children and parents smile through their cancer battles. The power of music is undeniable and our message is gratitude for every moment that we share with every person, wherever they may be on this journey. Gypsy Wisdom is now managed by The Pomponio Company, and are playing in some very high profile rooms such as Seacrets, Tir Na Nog, The Gypsy Bar, The Windrift and Victory Beer Hall, among others and will travel to wherever the GW love is needed! They also play a lot of corporate and private events as well as weddings and keep a very busy schedule! When you see them, you can tell how passionate they are about music and about each other. They are true entertainers in every sense of the word and their music choices will have you up dancing all night long! One thing is for sure, once you see Gypsy Wisdom, you’ll be hooked. They embody everything that music brings in to our hearts and in to our souls . I highly recommend that you check them out. Steal Your Face was formed in 2006 and has been growing their own legion of fans for almost a decade. The band consists of Paul Baroli Jr (bass/vocals), Garry Engel (rhythm guitar/ vocals), Curt Eustace (lead guitar), Dan Galvano (keyboards/vocals), Matt Ginsburg (drums/vocals). “We started this band because we love the music and the catalog of The Grateful Dead. I would go to music festivals and feel a void, missing this music. I think it belongs there. Music festivals have become a big part of the culture of jamband music and if it were not for the Grateful Dead these festivals wouldn’t be happening. It’s respect for what they did and what their music means to the thriving scene today.”, said the band’s founder Paul Baroli Jr. Garry Engel, the band’s co-founder and senior member, saw his first Grateful Dead concert on April 10th 1971 at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. Their youngest member saw them in utero in 1989. Based locally, Steal Your Face has performed at venues and music festivals spanning from West Virginia to Massachusetts and this Spring are traveling to Hanover, PA and Narrowsburg, NY. The band is celebrating one of their favorite holidays with a series of local shows they are calling the “420 Earth Day Tour 2015”. Friday April 17th at Nick’s Roast Beef Cottman Ave. Saturday April 18th at The Churchville Inn. Thursday April 23rd at Ardmore Music Hall. Friday April 24th at Triumph Brewing Company of New Hope and Saturday April 25 at Jersey Pub 73 in Palmyra, NJ. The band will be making their 5th consecutive appearance at The Pennypack Park Music Festival in Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday May 13th. Steal Your Face will be performing at the Thursday Night Local Music Series Hosted by Out on the Town Entertainment Guide at Chickie’s & Pete’s on Roosevelt Boulevard May 21st. This is one of the best singing contests around, starting April 16 til June 11 every Thurs night at 9 pm. One winner will walk away with $100 every Thursday and a chance to come back to win $500 on June 11th at the finals. Every year ‘So You Think You Can Sing’ keeps getting bigger and bigger. In previous years we had some celebrity judges like Columbia recording artist Mark Evans, from Heavens Edge, Singer/songwriter and producer Rod Margolis , Mikey V from Out On the Town and some of our friends in area bands. We wanted to switch it up, so last year we had the audience judge. It was crazy; so many people came out to support their friends and had a great time. For the contest, you can either sing karaoke, play guitar and sing, or sing acappella. It’s a fun night! Maggie’s has expanded and is much bigger now with soon to be roof top seating, as well, with 42 beers on tap plus craft beer and a great menu. If you haven’t been to Maggie’s waterfront café, you have to check it out! Page 11 Page 12 Volume 37 Number 06 • April 22, 2015 to May 13, 2015 • www.OOTONLINE.com High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets DininG ArounD TowN with Roundhouse Ron Sit right back & please let me tell you a short story about 2 amazing young men who had a freakin awesome idea about building a super restaurant/bar establishment along the Neshaminy Creek in Bensalem, PA. Yea, my boyz “Bill Rushton” & “Paul Stopyra” made their lifelong dream come true with what we all now know as the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets”. This ultra modern facility is nestled just off of Route 13 (Bristol Pike), on Totem Road, west of the Neshaminy Creek in beautiful Bensalem. The “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets” has a huge parking lot with an easy access boat ramp & floating boat docks for all boaters to enjoy as you are on the local water ways. In fact, I do believe the Neshaminy Creek feeds into the Delaware River which provides waterway access for all boating traffic. When pulling up, you can’t but notice the amazing exterior entertainment deck with a full service bar that is open during the spring, summer & fall (as long as the weather permits). This has to be the largest outdoor waterfront view deck bar in Bucks County & Silly Philly. As I continued my journey inside, I was totally thrilled by how every last detail was finished off with top quality construction items, from the humongous granite like soapstone countertop bar, the highly polished glossy concrete floors, to the luxurious seating & the durable table firmness. One of my personal favorites has to be the relaxing cascading water feature behind the main bar. When you stop by the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets” please check out the world famous 1,350 gallon salt water fish tank, this aquatic wonderland is like 15’ long, 3’ wide & 4’ high, all while being crystal clear see through from the front dining room into the banquet hall. This super oceanic tank would even make my wild dudez “Wayde King” & “Brett Raymer” of “ATM Aquariums” in Las Vegas so freakin jealous. Being in the entertainment/restaurant/bar field, you get to know a lot of fabulous people. This trip down memory lane was no different here @ the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets”, cause working as hard as she always did behind the bar was my girl “Valerie” (my bartender). She rocks this place as a hero mixologist with her side kick “Phil” (bartender), as they create sum alluring libations. Checking out the professionalism of staff members such as servers, bartenders, bus boyz, line cooks & sous chefs, is also a big part of my “DininG ArounD TowN’ Foodie Reviews. When sitting down to check out the all new “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets” menu, I found the selections to be mouth watering & also extremely difficult to just pick 1 entrée. Knowing me, like you all do, I had to pick a few main dishes to get the full experience. Walking up to my table was a very attractive female with a “High Tides” shirt, as she got closer I noticed it was “Jessica” (my server). I am not gonna go krazy by giving her major gold star kudos, cause she may just start to blush again, but this girl was unbelievable. She was holding down so many tables, while still answering all of my stupid “DininG ArounD TowN” questions about the menu items. Over seeing the entire kitchen, along with all the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets” foodie selections is my main dude “Executive Chef Joshua Pham”. My man “Joshua” when to my alma mater of “Jules E. Mastbaum Vo-Tech” & was raised as a Mayfair boy. As he was following in his father’s culinary executive chef footsteps, he worked his way up from bus boy, to dishwasher, line cook & now executive chef in his own right. “Joshua” has an awesome wife (“Mya”) his rock, along with 3 beautiful children, 2 gurlz (“Tiana” & “Oliva”) & 1 boy (“Alexander”). As I was talking to him, I could tell dis chef not only luved his job as head chef here @ the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets”, but he also adored his familia as a proud husband & dad. When at a very unique dining establishment like the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets”, I just hadda start off my culinary adventure with sum tantalizing seafood. Let’s dig right into a large rectangle plate of ocean fresh “Calamari”, lightly battered, fried to perfection, seasoned with Old Bay & accented with chopped roast peppers, spinach, tomatoes along with a homemade marinara. This plate was so colorful & I completely luved the flavor combinations that “Executive Chef Josh” added to the calamari as it all pulled together in a wonderful bite fresh out of the sea. Keeping with tradition, I was thinkin about trying the “Tomato Basil Salmon” as my 1st main entrée? WoW, is all I can say my little mind freaks, as the “Tomato Basil Salmon” was placed in front of me, it was so perfectly cooked, topped with a fresh tomato basil, while being served with a cauliflower puree & a fried polenta to make this plate complete. If you like or crave a nice piece of freshly prepared & flawlessly seasoned salmon, then you will simply luv this dish & you should get your butt over to the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets” as soon as possible. Another one of my favorite proteins has to be chicken, so, next order of business was the “Stuffed Chicken Marsala”, served with 2 pieces of seared chicken breasts, with a mushroom, crispy bacon & sundried tomato sauce gravy, all over a bed of homemade mashed red bliss potatoes & numerous charred grilled asparagus spears as a side. Not only does the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets” have outstanding seafood, but, their other entrée plates are also served with professional culinary tender luving care that will take your taste buds to an all new high tide. My hat goes off to “Executive Chef Joshua” & his entire kitchen staff, specially my boyz “Sous Chef Victor” & “Pantry Chef Pudge”. You guyz got this thing all wrapped up with sum krazy good hard core culinary masterpieces. Keep up da good work!! Don’t take my word as gospel, stop by the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets” with either your familia, your friendz or fellow coworkers. Every plate is made to order with daily ordered fresh ingredients. This relaxing eatery/ bar/banquet facility is a full throttle crowd pleaser for all ages, while also providing the highest quality in service & customer satisfaction. Look out for an all new exciting summer menu, which will include an oyster raw bar & swordfish prepared that will have you hooked for life. I am talkin top quality 5 star tasting food with average workin person 2 star prices that equal a fabulous deal. So elegant & classy is the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets”, but it still has a local very affordable feel. Dates that you should be concerned about here at the “High Tides Restaurant, Bar & Banquets” are May 1st, 2015 for the outside deck -bar area will be a soft opening. You must attend the June 6th, 2015 mega blast grand opening “High Tides” party with 3 bands, celebrities visiting along with special food & beverage specials all day long. Hey, look around really good, you may even see your boy “Roundhouse Ron” attending both events. We here at OOTT however are out and about and seeing and hearing of different ways and tips to help you all save money and put those few saved cents Back “In the Piggy Bank.” Thrift stores are popping up right and left! There are more average folks and “not so average” gracing the doors nonstop at so many of these money saving Mecca’s! I have gotten more deals then none shopping in various consignment shops. My favorite is “Impact Thrift Stores” Located in Hatboro, Montgomeryville and Feasterville, PA. I’ll give you an example. I needed a new Printer cable! Now If I had to go to one of the office supplies stores for a new cable it would cost Probably over $10.00. I went straight to “Impact” and in their used electronics department found a used good cable for $1.00. I have found brand new sweaters, coats exercise clothes, etc. for under $5.00! You have to look, Deals are there! Go to their web sites and find when they have specials! http://impactthrift.org/ Dollar Stores are also a great blessing! I can report that the dollar store Migraine tablets are every bit as good as Excedrin. The snack isle is a huge savings versus the grocery stores! Where I get all my cans of Lays Potato chips $1.00 versus $1.59 in the supermarkets! The Greeting card section 2 for $1.00 another savings versus $2.00 anywhere else! Pet food also a big savings! Alpo Canned dog food 2 cans for $1.00 where I’ve found the same can alone for $1.00 at some markets. By Kevin Law, Owner of PhillyRockRadio.com Red Halo is a hard rocking band that covers Classic Rock and delivers a solid set of original material with Country, Blues and Rock influences evident. They hail from Shamokin, a city in Northumberland County, PA, which borders our nation’s historic Coal Region. The strong work ethic inherent to this part of the country is in this band’s makeup as well, and they demonstrate that by playing every weekend traveling throughout central Pennsylvania and New York. It is great to see that hard work has paid off for the band as it’s earned them the title of MTV Artist. They were recognized for two of their videos, one of which is for a cover of the 1991 Drivin’ N Cryin’ song, Fly Me Courageous. Red Halo features the dual guitar work of vocalist Lee Lentes and Eric Metz, as well as the hard driving rhythm section of bassist Al Dobson and drummer Troy “Floss” Hunt. They are currently working on the follow-up to their full-length album Here We Come with the award-winning Andrew Chervak of Midnight Studios in Phillipsburg, NJ. In 2014, Chervak earned Producer of the Year and Recording Studio of The Year honors at the Lehigh Valley Music Awards. Below is some of the interview I conducted with Red Halo’s bassist Al Dobson: Tell me how the honor of being named an MTV artist came about? It essentially came about by promoting and putting our videos out in as many places as we could. We submitted it to MTV through the proper channels. Then of course, it had to meet the stringent criteria that they have in video and audio quality. You can’t put out something that was homemade or poorly done. We were fortunate to have two videos accepted. So, it’s a nice feather in our hat. Has the distinction been good for the band in terms of bookings? It’s definitely a head turner. It’s a differentiation that we have over most other bands. If anything, it makes someone who hears about it want to take a deeper look. I won’t say that it doesn’t have the possibility of opening some doors for us, but we know it still comes down to our music and showmanship. A video is an advertisement tool. You still need the chops to be successful and create a fan base. What prompted the band to cover Fly Me Courageous? It’s a great song. When it was brand new back in the early ’90s, Lee covered it in his band Stranded. We decided to do it after we heard it played on a few different radio stations recently. We found it weird that, out of the blue, it was played on multiple stations after all these years. So, we obtained the mechanical licensing to legally cover it and put it on our album. It’s really worked well for us. You’ve recently played at The Legendary Dobbs. What are your thoughts on the Philadelphia music scene? It’s actually something that we as musicians from Pennsylvania strive to be a part of because we’re not from here. In Shamokin where we are from, it is small town America with a lot of coal region attitude. The music scene is essentially nonexistent. We have to travel to play anywhere. It matters for us to reach the maximum amount of people. And we try to do that by performing every weekend. We are ecstatic when we get to play Philly and we look forward to doing it many more times. We hope to make it a second home. We all know how dedicated and passionate Philly fans are. So, if we make here, we’ll make it anywhere. Upcoming plans for the band? We’re a few months away from the release of our new EP, the title of which is still in the works. I can tell you the songs on it are 10 times better than our last recording. We’ve grown so much since we made Here We Come. Andrew (Chervak) has done a tremendous job with it. It sounds so big and powerful. You can get a taste by listening to our song Come On And Be With Me. Aside from that, our plans are to keep on touring and expanding our reach. We’ll go anywhere and everywhere. And we will. Check out Red Halo’s music and read more about them by visiting redhaloband.com. You can also hear them by tuning in to phillyrockradio.com Jamison to headline Fleadh on May 2 Northeast Philadelphia’s Jamison Celtic Rock has been at it for almost 10 years and they’re reputation of being one of the most high energy bands in the area doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Offering a mix of Irish rock blended with dance, country, rock, and alternative music, Jamison fans range from 21-100 and not just Irish folks. Their crowd participation mashups of genres keeps these local guys playing long after St. Patrick’s Day ends in March. Most of their summer is spent playing some of the best venues at the Jersey shore like Keenan’s and Casey’s in North Wildwood and LaCosta in Sea Isle City. But fans don’t have to travel toward the sea in the summer to experience their shows. Locally you can catch Jamison in regular rotation at Curran’s, Paddy Whack’s, Tir Na Nog, and RP Mc Murphy’s. On May 2nd, Jamison will be headlining the 3rd year of The Philadelphia Fleadh (pronounced flah and Irish for festival or festive occasion). After two years at Pennypack Park, this year, The Philadelphia Fleadh is moving to The Cherokee Festival Grounds in Bensalem (1 Declaration Drive, Bensalem, PA 19020). The Cherokee Festival Grounds is home to The Cherokee Day Camp and sits on 15 picturesque acres along the Neshaminy Creek. The Philly Fleadh hosts local and international acts on 3 music stages including The Mahones who just finished their European Tour with Dropkick Murphy’s. Also featured at The Philly Fleadh is Kilmaine Saints, Birmingham Six, Ray Coleman, The John Byrne Band, Galway Guild and more. The Philly Fleadh also has “Feis at the Fleadh” a nationally sanctioned competition of the area’s best Irish dancers. There is also a ceili (pronounced Kaylee) which is an Irish dancing workshop with traditional music that invites everyone to join in. There will be Irish vendors with food, beer and apparel as well as a kids’ play zone. Last year, The Philadelphia Fleadh drew thousands from the area for this huge one day festival. What many people don’t know is that The Philadelphia Fleadh is produced by American Paddy’s, the booking and production company of Jamison’s Frank Daly and CJ Mills. Throughout the year, the guys in Jamison produce different events in area that promote IrishAmerican culture for people of all ages, but this is the biggest event they do all year. Make plans now to see Jamison Celtic Rock at The Philadelphia Fleadh, you’ll be happy you did. The Philadelphia Fleadh will be held on May 2 from 11am until 9pm (with Irish dance competitions beginning a bit earlier for competitors. He has been on national tours with major names like Ritchie Havens, Mike Cunningham (Dicky Betts Band) and legendary bluesman Sonny Rhodes in 2005, opened up for The Guess Who and toured with a Tina Turner Tribute Band. Through it all, AJ Slick remains at the top of his game when it comes to playing music. He is a true professional in every phase of music. To stay relevant he continues to update his catalog and remains one of the top attractions at local bars and clubs because of his ability to give the people what they want to hear. He also plays major festivals. I first met AJ around three years ago at one of his open mic nights and soon became fast friends. Since then we both have evolved. I was very fortunate to have AJ play on my CD Waterfall released last May. Since then we have continued a great friendship that transcends beyond music. So when Mike Vagnoni asked me to submit an article about AJ Slick I was more than happy to get to work. Along the way there have been personnel changes as there are in most bands. Bobby Correa another long time Philly area musician has rejoined the AJ Slick band as the fulltime drummer. Bobby has a long resume in music playing for Pretty Poison, Skeleton Crew and Surf Zombies to name a few. With Bobby’s powerful drumming he gives the rock trio a “big” sound. Along with Steve K on bass, who has been with AJ for 30 years, the AJ Slick band is full of energy with more of a rock edge. To hear Skyn- Kircher Entertainment nard, Jimi Hendrix and now Nirvana with the new lineup is pretty intimidating to say the least. Along with the cover sets AJ plays original songs from his own CD release from 2010 titled The Mirror Wouldn’t Lie, available at his shows. In his own music you hear all his influences as he weaves them in and out of his playing and vocals. Check it out. Besides fronting the AJ Slick band, AJ has a very good acoustic trio called Slick/Martin/ Wolfe, with Bill Martin and Perry Wolfe. You should check them out as well. I’ve had the pleasure of filling in on occasion and it is really a tight sound. They have regular gigs every month check them out on facebook. Last summer AJ was invited down to Nashville to meet and jam with legendary Billy Cox, former bass player for Jimi Hendrix in the Band Of Gypsies formed after Jimi broke up the Experience in 1968. “It was a great experience to actually not only meet but jam with a high profile musician like Billy” said AJ when he returned from his trip. “Billy had some great stories from back in the day, stuff like how they achieved certain tunings or arrangements.” Jimi Hendrix along with The Beatles are two of his biggest influences. To make a living playing music full time means playing 5 to 6 nights a week. To help fill out his schedule AJ Slick hosts two very successful Open Mic Nights. On Wednesday nights the Rhawnhurst Café on Castor Avenue in NE Philly and Sunday afternoons at The Sycamore Grill in Newtown, Pa. I’ve been to a lot of open mic nights over the last few years but these are the most fun. Besides all the musicians who frequently stop out to jam and hang out, the crowds come out to hear AJ play. Most of his open mics the bars are packed and they often stay beyond closing. Stop and think about what a compliment that is when friends and musicians alike come out to hear AJ play music and whoever else pops in. Join in the fun. Like the CD, The Mirror Wouldn’t Lie. Some other Accomplishments by THE BUSINESS; They appeared in and contributed music production work on ABC’s national TV special Brides, A Tale Of Two Weddings which was watched in over 10 million households all over the country. THE BUSINESS appeared on the internationally syndicated series, Ed McMahon’s Star Search and again was seen by millions of viewers all over the world. THE BUSINESS wrote, recorded and performed the official fight song for both the 1993 National League Champion & 2008 World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. In 1994, Those Phillies Thrill Me was named by Out On The Town Magazine as one of the top five songs of 1993 along with Hip Hop A Billy, another Business original. Since those early days THE BUSINESS has been consistently performing anywhere from 80 to 100 gigs a year, approximately half of them being weddings and the other half being a combination of privates, clubs and festivals. The band is very happy with that percentage because even though they are one of the top wedding bands in the tri state area, they still love the high energy of clubs and festivals. The band’s leader Dan Vanore says it keeps the band on their toes and brings that same kind of high energy to every wedding they perform at. They have also performed at The Apollo, Veteran’s Stadium, Citizen’s Bank Park, Wells Fargo Arena and The Kimmel Center. Seven years after it’s inception Sixx Am. is finally coming to play a headlining show in Philadelphia. The last time they were in this area was for Motley Cruefest 1 in 2008. For a band that was originally put together to record a sound track for Nikki’s book “The Heroin diaries”, they have done quite well for themselves. The success of the first record forced the band to record their second album “This is gonna hurt” in 2011 and “Modern Vintage” in 2014. This was supposed to be a part time project for some friends who all had huge day jobs. Nikki is the bass player for Motley Crue and DJ. Ashba is the current guitar player for Guns and Roses. which are too many to mention. Frank has made his radio and DJ career by keeping the dance floor packed, and choosing just the right selection of music, from Donna Summer to Pitbull. See him Thursdays nights at the Buck, where it’s Ladies Night, every Thursday. Drink specials for the ladies include $3 domestic beers, $4 well mixed drinks, $5 house martinis, all served from 8 to 10PM Frank began his career in Philadelphia radio in the 1980’s joining Philadelphia’s Power 99 as Music Coordinator for the station as well as hosting the Saturday night live broadcast featuring dance music from the 70’s and 80’s and broadcasting live from Steven Starr’s Ripley Music Hall on South Street, then moving to the Trocadero at 10th and Arch Streets. Frank’s show continually ranked #1 in the ratings until late 1988 when he decided to leave Power 99 and help launch a brand new station in Philadelphia called Q102. Frank was the first employee hired at Q102. Most of the music and the music direction of Q102 for the first year were a result of Frank’s influence and based on his experience with audience and music research combined with being a club DJ for many years. He was also awarded numerous gold and platinum records for his role in discovering and breaking new recording acts that later became national hits. In 1994, Frank began to host a Sunday Night dance party on Q102 called “The Back in the Day Dance Party” featuring music from the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. The show was first broadcast from a nightclub called Gotham located on Delaware Avenue, then moved up the street to Maui nightclub and finally to the 8th Floor night club on Delaware Avenue. Like Frank’s previous dance shows, this show continued to garner high ratings and draw record crowds, especially during its tenure at the 8th Floor. In 1999, Frank was invited to bring his show to 95.7’s new station, Jammin’ Gold. The show was moved to a Saturday night but continued to broadcast from the 8th Floor nightclub. Frank later continued on 95.7 even though the format of the station changed and it became known as Mix 95.7. With the format change, the dance music now included current hits as well as “Back in the Day” music. Frank began broadcasting from Michael’s Cafe’ in Bensalem, Pennsylvania and he added a second broadcast from Adelphia nightclub in Deptford, New Jersey. With the demise of Mix 95.7, Frank first moved his Friday and Sunday night shows to 94.5 PST and most recently, returning to Q102’s sister station, Mix 106.1 where he began his live broadcast at the Coastline in Cherry Hill. 9 years later, his Friday night broadcasts from the Coastline continue to draw record crowds and high ratings. The one constant through all his years in radio and the live dance parties is his love for music; especially dance music (he also has a vast personal collection of Rock, Jazz, Classical, R&B and Pop). “I still get the same thrill listening to a new Katy Perry, Rihanna, Gaga, or Usher song as I do when listening to a Madonna song from a couple of decades ago,” Frank commented. The other great pleasure for him is meeting thousands of Philadelphia area residents over the years who have enjoyed the music featured on his shows and who frequent his dance parties. “Every week they’re all there, from aged 25 to 60. After all these years, I feel privileged to still be the host for these listeners and for making their weekends something special to look forward to.” Frank spends his weekdays operating his marketing/advertising company located in Center City, Philadelphia and founded in 1995. penn’s port pub and beer world 1916 s chris columbus blvd, philadelphia, pa 19148 215-336-7033 www.pennsportpub.com visit us on facebook and twitter All credit cards accepted!
