Summer 2016
May - September
Welcome to
Eastbourne Theatres
Summer is around
the corner and
what a few months
we have for you
at Eastbourne
Theatres.
We are thrilled to
be collaborating on
3 exciting projects
this Summer. Firstly,
we are working the
New Vic theatre and
Chris Jordan
Oldham Coliseum
Artistic Director,
to bring the
Eastbourne Theatres
wonderful new play,
Kiss Me Quickstep
to Eastbourne.
Set behind the scenes at the ballroom dancing
championships in Blackpool, this show will
be performed in the beautifully atmospheric
surroundings of the Winter Garden, Floral
Hall for a ‘strictly’ limited period only. There
is even a chance for some of you to actually
take part in the production! Keep your eye
on our Website and social media for details.
Don’t miss this unique theatrical experience.
We will also be working with Original Theatre
Company and Salisbury Playhouse on
Emlyn Williams classic thriller Night Must
Fall and for lovers of a great farce we bring
Don’t Dress For Dinner to the Devonshire Park
Theatre
Musicals fans can enjoy debut visits from
Let It Be, The Bodyguard and Avenue Q and
a very welcome return visit for Andrew Lloyd
Webber’s classic Cats.
You will no doubt have heard of the
ambitious plans for the redevelopment of the
Devonshire Park site which include extensive
refurbishment of the Congress Theatre and
Winter Garden along with improvements to
the Devonshire Park Theatre.

THE bodyguard
As a result of this £44million project, the
Congress Theatre will have to close for a
period of approximately 18 months from
January 2017 followed by the Winter Garden
for a similar period from January 2018.
During this time we will continue to bring an
impressive entertainment programme to
our venues and we will be moving some of
our regular Congress shows into our other
performance spaces. The Devonshire Park
Theatre will remain open throughout bringing
you concerts, comedians and continuing
to present first rate drama, comedy and of
course our famous annual Pantomime!
This is an exciting time for Eastbourne and
this major investment into our theatres,
conference and catering facilities will ensure
top class entertainment on this site for
generations to come.
We look forward to welcoming you to
Eastbourne Theatres very soon.
Very best wishes

H.M.S. PINAFORE
High-born Josephine is in love with Ralph, a
lowly sailor on board her father’s ship. Will she
declare it or follow her father’s wishes and
marry his chosen match, the pompous but
well meaning Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of
the Admiralty?
If they elope, will anyone spill the beans? What
does the mysterious Miss Buttercup know –
and what will she reveal? Can the Captain run
a tight ship without ever (or hardly ever) using
strong language?
HMS Pinafore is one of the most popular and
well-known of the G&S musicals, bubbling
with Gilbert’s wit, still sharp as ever, and
brimming with some of Sullivan’s most
memorable music. The show will also include
an excerpt from Pineapple Poll performed by
Southern Youth Ballet.

It remains toxic, poisoning life long after love
is over. Alex sits in his chair drinking red wine
and listening to music, numb to all but his day
to day existence. A sudden knock on the door
late at night and Connor has turned up; 17,
drunk, disorderly, a mess in the guise of a fit
young lover. How does love and nurture turn
to rejection and hatred?
This latest play from Gail Louw, author
of Blonde Poison, Miss Dietrich Regrets,
Shackleton’s Carpenter is a thrilling
examination of the complex relationships
of adopted parents, their children and
gay partners.
Contains adult themes and explicit language.
It’s April 1967: the heavyweight boxing
champion of the world, Muhammad Ali, defies
the US Military by refusing to fight in Vietnam.
Meanwhile in a shabby Bethnal Green flat,
an elderly boxing trainer, hears the news
and recalls his own dilemmas of WW1, when
Conscription in 1916 sent pacifists to prison
or the firing squad; when he, at the peak of
his boxing career and physical prowess, made
a choice.
Can Jimmy still be a contender and fight his
demons from the past and can he tame one
young demon from the present?

Performed in the atmospheric surroundings
of the Winter Garden and on the historic
Floral Hall dance floor, this new play from
the writer of The Thrill of Love and the hugely
popular Be My Baby, looks at the real lives
behind the fixed smiles and fake tan of the
world of ballroom dance.
Justin and Jodie have finally made it
to Blackpool’s national championships –
via the motorway hard shoulder. Luka’s
come all the way from Russia. Nancy’s been
training for this since she was three. Lee and
Samantha arrive on a wave of success.
But what if your dance-floor dreams are
turning into a nightmare? How do you
stop dancing to other people’s tunes? What can
you do if your partner’s secret could cost you
the crown? And, even when the whole world’s
at your feet, it only takes one false step…

The Rattonians bring to the Eastbourne premier

Following on from the highly successful film in 2010 the musical

Funny, touching and timeless, Made in Dagenham shows how ordinary
people can do extraordinary things when they stand together. With
