Housing for Older people This booklet is designed to tell you about the wide range of accommodation for older people in Walsall. Housing Services Housing for Older people Introduction There are many properties for older people across the borough of Walsall. All of the properties in this booklet are owned by Registered Housing Providers. This means that the rent you pay is controlled by government. In some cases a service and support charge may be applied, the Registered Providers will be able to give you this information when you apply for a home with them. The scheme is set in landscaped gardens, just off the main Darlaston to Wednesbury Road. A good range of shops can be found just a short bus ride away, and the Wolverhampton to Birmingham Midland Metro line runs from Wednesbury. Accommodation Kings Hill is one of Accord’s largest mixed schemes, there are 120 general family apartments on the scheme and 20 one bedroom sheltered apartments. All apartments have a fitted Kitchen. The scheme has close links with St Mary’s the Mount Church and Mount Housing Limited who provide support on site to assist Tenants. The service works in partnership with other agencies in Walsall including Age Concern, Social Care and Inclusion and others to make sure that the needs of tenants are met. Security and Safety Accommodation Tenants living at the scheme are able to access housing related support services which can help them to remain living independently in the community. There may be a cost involved for this service. Maryvale court provides accommodation for 51 singles / couples. All flats have a fully fitted kitchen, which include fridge freezer, oven and hob. All flats have an emergency pull cord and some flats have wheelchair access. Accommodation Apnar Ghar has 16 flats for singles / couples. All flats have wheelchair access. In addition, there is a property attached to Apna Ghar which is available for up to 4 persons (family or group) needing support in a culturally sensitive environment. Scheme Facilities Apna Ghar has the following communal facilities for tenants to use: Apna Ghar also has a day care centre which provides culturally appropriate day care for Asian elders which are referred by Social Care & Inclusion. There is a weekly or daily fee for this service, which may be funded by the local authority, subject to a financial needs assessment.
