Davis - Jewish General Hospital has modified its manual oral drug distribution for an automated system, the AutoMed FDS™ . The AutoMed FDS Systems™ represent a new era in oral solid medication packaging and dispensing. Designed exclusively to meet the needs of modern pharmacy operations, the AutoMed FDS Systems™ offer the high-speed, high-capacity today's pharmacy operations require, with a clear path toward meeting tomorrow's expanding pharmacy operation needs. The AutoMed FDS System™ utilizes 330 dispensing cassettes and delivers up to 60 single or multi-dose packages per minute. Each cassette is individually calibrated and available in multiple sizes to complement dispensing volume. The AutoMed FDS Systems™ are fully computer driven and include a powerful high performance 32-bit client/server PC and can operate under Windows ™ NT. This system is interfaced with the existing pharmacy inf6rmation system and allows seamless integration of our current data. A full array of comprehensive reports, including inventory and dispensing activity, can be easily generated. The Automed FDSTM dispensing system will allow pharmacy operations to grow, maximize labor efficiencies, improve accuracy and reduce acquisition and operation costs. This new technology relieves the pharmacists of a great part of their technical tasks, hence increasing the quality of pharmaceutical care offered to patients. Automation of the Pharmacy Department has shown to have a positive impact on our department, both technically and professionally. Automation of oral doses has allowed us to concentrate on increasing our existing IV Additive Program. Pharmacy batches unit dose intravenous medications and distributes them to the nursing stations. Thus: • we prepare these drugs under a laminar flow hood • we increase sterility of the products • we do the calculations, reconstitutions and dilutions of the products • we decrease medication errors, decrease nursing time for drug preparation, decrease drug wastage • we provide stability charts, assure proper storage • we prepare and control all the epidural anaesthesia products that contain narcotics, as per narcotic control act is published by the Department of Public .....
