CAMP SHOHOLA 2016 Information for International Parents and Campers 2016 DATES Season: Arrive Sunday, June 26; Return home Saturday, August 13 First Month: Arrive Sunday, June 26; Return home Saturday, July 23 Three Week Session: Arrive Sunday, July 24; Return home Saturday, August 13 Five Week Session: Arrive Sunday, July 10; Return home Saturday, August 13 1st Two-Weeks: Arrive Sunday, June 26; Return home Saturday, July 09 2nd Two-Weeks: Arrive Sunday, July 10; Return home Saturday, July 23 Air Transportation To Camp ****Very Important****** We STRONGLY suggest that you attempt to book your son’s flight to Newark Liberty International airport in Newark, New Jersey. This saves hours of transportation time in the car for your son because we do not have to cross into New York City to get there. We do offer transportation to and from JFK, but the cost is much higher. We STRONGLY suggest that you book your son’s flight ONE DAY BEFORE his session starts. This allows your son to rest and to adjust to the time change before camp starts. Please DO NOT book your son’s arrival or departure before 12 O’clock noon. This is ESPECIALLY important for the departure since we will have to have him at the airport three hours before the departure time and it takes us several hours to drive to the airport. TO REACH CAMPERS Mail: Telephone: 570-371-4760 Camper’s Name and Cabin # Campers should be called during meal times or rest hour Camp Shohola when they can easily answer the phone: 8:00-8:45am (exept Sunday, which is 8:30 to 9:15am) 105 Weber Road 1:00- 1:45pm, or 6:00- 6:45 pm (except Wed. cookout). Greeley, PA 18425 Please wait to call until after the first week, to give your son time to adjust. Please limit phone call to 5-7 minutes. Email: The simplest way to email your son is to set up a free, internet accessible email account for him, such as a gmail, yahoo, or hotmail account. Teach him how to use it and he will be able to use it after his first five days at camp have gone by. GENERAL INFORMATION Visiting Days for Parents Parents of season campers or five-week campers are encouraged to visit and/or take their son out of camp during changeover weekend, July 23 to 24. There is no visiting day for 2, 3, or 4-week campers, only for those that are staying over between the two major sessions. Clothing See inventory list and packing list for suggested list of items. Both of these lists are included in your “parent welcome pack”. ALL ITEMS MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH CAMPER'S FULL NAME. Name tapes are preferred. Please also mark all sports equipment (including shoes). Inventory List Please attach camper Inventory List in the lid of the camper's trunk. Counselors will check items upon arrival and at departure. International campers: send list in an envelope. Infirmary Care Prescription medications are pre-packaged and sent to camp. You will receive an invitation from CampDoc to fill out the health profile and order any prescriptions. Infirmary care and non-prescription medications are covered by the camp fee. Medical expenses resulting from doctor or hospital visits will be the responsibility of parents. Any bills will be forwarded to you so that you may submit them to your insurance company. If we have a copy of your insurance card with your health form there is a chance we can get it covered ahead of time. Parents will be notified by telephone if a camper requires an overnight stay in the infirmary or a trip to the doctor. Contagious Diseases If your child has been exposed to a contagious disease, you must notify the Director and delay the camper's arrival at camp until the full incubation period has passed and the doctor believes he can attend camp safely. Requirements for Campers in the Riding Program All riders must wear a hard hat and sturdy tie shoes with heels. If a camper does not own a hard hat, the camp will lend him one. Campers must provide their own shoes. Personal Possessions We make every reasonable effort to safeguard personal possessions, however we cannot be responsible for items lost, damaged or stolen. We are happy to provide storage for items of value. PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY ELECTRONICS TO CAMP. NO CELL PHONES, NO VIDEO GAMES, NO IPODS, OR ANYTHING THAT CAN ACCESS THE INTERNET OR PLAY VIDEOS. Money Campers draw from their spending allowance. In most cases this is sufficient for expenses while at camp. Extra fees that apply to some programs or trips will be deducted from the store account. Money not spent will be refunded to you at the end of your son’s camp session. In the event of an over-draw, you will be billed at the end of your son’s camp session. Please turn in any cash for safekeeping. We are not responsible for cash not turned into the office. ***Working Seniors:*** Working Seniors have many more opportunities to spend money than other campers due to extra privileges. Therefore we will add extra spending to spending allowance for ‘’working seniors”. Policy on Alcoholic Beverages and Illegal Drugs If drugs or alcohol are found in the possession of any camper, he will be dismissed from camp immediately with no refund of camp fee. Food Please do not send any food to camp. When food is sent, it is collected and distributed to the entire camp at the end of each session. Communication with campers: The directors request that you not communicate with your son for the first week of camp. The computer lab will be closed other than for instruction during the first week of your son’s stay. This is critical for his adjustment to camp (and maybe yours too!!!!). If your son is having any adjustment issues of concern you will be contacted by the director. CAMP SHOHOLA Instructions for Payment from Outside the U.S. 105 Weber Road Greeley Pennsylvania 18425 Telephone: 570-371-4760 Fax: 570-504-1702 e-mail: office@shohola.com All fees must be paid in U.S. dollars. Please make payment to Camp Shohola, Inc. by one of the following methods: (1.) Our first choice of payment is a check written from a U.S. bank account in U.S. dollars. (2.) Our second choice is a wire transfer in U.S. dollars with instructions to transfer to: The Honesdale National Bank 733 Main Street, PO Box 350 Honesdale Pennsylvania 18431 ABA routing #031308535 Account name: Camp Shohola, Inc. Account #1254710401 Note: Banks in Europe often ask for a SWIFT code to make a transfer. We do not participate in the SWIFT system. Tell your bank that our bank participates in the Federal Reserve System and that the ABA routing number is what they will need to make the transfer. Please be certain to include your name and your son’s name in the wire transfer instructions so that his account can be properly credited. Once you have instructed your bank to wire the funds, please confirm to us (by e-mail, fax or phone) the amount of the original wire transfer so that we may anticipate the arrival of the funds and correctly credit the account. (3.) We do accept Credit Cards as a courtesy for our international families. However, this is our least desirable option because it costs us a lot of money. If it is very difficult for you to pay by one of the previously mentioned options, we will gladly accept your credit card. For your security, we suggest that you email us the information by sending us two separate emails, each of which only contains part of the credit card information. We will combine the information from the two emails in order to complete it. Thank you.
