Bluffton Brand Charrettes
W
bluffton brand charrettes: take part as bluffton
DEfines its brand
hen it comes to shaping the future of our uniquely special Bluffton community, residents and business
representatives share a deep sense of connection and inherent knowledge of its core values, what’s known as “the
Bluffton State of Mind.”
We wanted to hear from you and you responded! The chamber, in partnership with the Town of Bluffton, presented
two brand development community sessions, “charrettes,” last month
which generated lively and interactive input from local stakeholders.
If you missed the June sessions, please join us for one of the brand
charrettes on July 9 or July 10 at the Bluffton Community Center/Oscar
Frazier Park from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Working with our research partners from USCB and USC, the
charrettes invite the Bluffton community to come together to share
their input for Bluffton as well as opportunities for smart future
growth.
“By looking forward, the brand sessions offer
a valuable long view of the Town of Bluffton’s
growth and where we’re headed, not just now, but
10 to 20 years down the road.”
— Matt Green, Chamber Bluffton Regional
Business Council vice chairman,
Buckwalter Place/Buckwalter Commercial
The community is invited to join in the brand discussion
and come ready to share ideas. RSVP to Leta Salazar at
lsalazar@hiltonheadisland.org.
Charrette participants were inspired by photographs to share
their stories and how they related to Bluffton during the branding
sessions.

member spotlight: Kerri O’Connell
& Colin Wain, HIDDEN TREASURES VINTAGE & THRIFT
“Finding a fabulous find is what
it’s all about,” explains vintage shop
owner Kerri O’Connell with a laugh.
“We’re always on the search for special
pieces.” Kerri and husband Colin
Wain opened their shop in February
on Bluffton Parkway, and it turns out
they’re not the only ones looking for
hidden treasures.
The couple has already expanded
their antique offerings, added their
own line of hand-painted furnishings and begun custom work as well.
Steamer trunks, 1940’s dining sets and collectables are on display,
but not for long. “We constantly refresh and add new pieces and even
we are amazed at some of our surprise treasures, including a mid1800’s urn, similar to one which recently sold at Christie’s Auction
House,” said O’Connell.
Even the shop was a surprise find – The couple was planning
to open a restaurant when they happened across the shop on the
market. “It’s brand new for us, but Colin’s grandmother owned an
antique shop in Vancouver, so he definitely comes by it naturally. Our
son Grayson enjoys it too,” adds O’Connell.
Whether you stop by the shop or become one of their loyal
Facebook shoppers, it’s easy to see what’s in stock and new items are
uploaded daily. There may just be a hidden treasure waiting for you.

Top Technology Trends Bring Results for Small Business Owners
Chances are you are doing more and more of your business on
social and mobile platforms. Is your business taking advantage of
today’s technology trends to reduce costs?
“The trend triumvirate – social, mobile and cloud, is also reshaping
the IT channel,” according to Laurie McCabe, partner, SMB Group.
“Cloud computing reduces the need for hardware, software and ups
the ante for business process transformation.”
Another growing trend, demand for analytics has risen as
businesses plan growth strategies. Roughly a third of small to
medium businesses use, or plan to use, cloud-based business
intelligence and analytics solutions in the next 12 months.

Digital Marketing: It’s Not Just Business, It’s Personal
Looking for the best way to “tell your story?” You may want to ditch
the corporate speak, especially when it comes to digital marketing.
Did you know the “About Us” page is the one of the most visited
pages on most organization’s web sites, and probably one of the most
under-utilized?
“Don’t neglect the opportunity to highlight all the reasons people
should connect with your business,” said Rick Mulready, creator of The
Inside Social Media Podcast. “Never forget your messages are being
read by a real person, just like you.”

joined Aircoa/Richfield Hospitality Services, Inc., serving as
director of sales & marketing for hotels in Boulder, CO and
Disney/Orlando’s Sheraton Lakeside before relocating to
Hilton Head Island to join the Hilton Oceanfront Resort as

With the chamber since 2003, he has led the group
sales team, playing an important role in garnering such
prestigious awards as the Pinnacle Award, awarded to
visitor and convention bureaus, hotels and conference
centers for outstanding service excellence.
Even during a challenging marketplace for group travel,
group room night bookings produced by the chamber
increased 71.65 over last year, with 3,814 room nights

Graham began working with the airport commission in 1985, serving as director of administration and finance
