Value Plays and Overvalued Players
VA L U E P L AYS C O N S O L I DAT E D QB Steve McNair, Baltimore Ravens ADP - 15.03 / QB32 / No. 171 Overall Selected by Dodds, Overton, Smith, and Tremblay Overton - Though Steve McNair is entering his 13th season, he’s still a warrior. He plays hurt, seldom misses a game, and performs in the clutch. With Willis McGahee bringing speed and elusiveness to the backfield and McNair’s three favorite receivers – Clayton, Heap, and Mason – returning for another season, look for McNair to outperform his draft position. With a QB32 ADP, he’s a steal as your QB2. TE Heath Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers ADP - 16.05 / TE18 / No. 185 Overall Selected by Dodds, Overton, Pasquino, and Smith Smith - In the past two seasons, Miller has finished as the 11th- and 13th-best fantasy tight end. It usually takes a young tight end awhile to establish himself as a premier receiver in the NFL, and Miller is expected to have a larger contribution this season. He has huge value at TE18. Players Receiving 3 Votes NICK DOAN/ICON SMI RB Edgerrin James, Arizona Cardinals ADP - 3.1 / RB19 / No. 34 Overall Selected by Bloom, Dodds, and Yudkin Yudkin - Edge represents great value at RB19 with most guys drafted that late in RBBCs. The Cardinals improved their OL, and Whisenhunt will try to get 500+ rushing attempts this year with Edge seeing a huge chunk of them. He had a 4.2 ypc and three 100-yard rushing games over the last half of 2006. Give me the guy with 350 touches over guys splitting carries any day of the week and twice on Tuesdays. RB Jamal Lewis, Cleveland Browns ADP - 7.03 / RB31 / No. 75 Overall Selected by Brown, Hicks, and Overton Brown - Lewis is running behind an improved offensive line, has a terrific career track record, coming off a season in which he was the 16th-ranked RB, and has no competition for playing time. Yet he’s being taken after guys like Brandon Jacobs, Chester Taylor, and Michael Turner? Getting a starting back as your RB3 is considered gravy; getting him in the early seventh round is almost criminal. TE Alge Crumpler, Atlanta Falcons ADP - 7.06 / TE7 / No. 78 Overall Selected by Hicks, Lammey, and Wimer Hicks - Is Alge Crumpler the Rodney Dangerfield of tight ends? He constantly gets no respect in fantasy circles. Last year, Crumpler finished higher in fantasy rankings than Heap, Shockey and Gonzalez, but is going to get selected a round later? Take the value. Crumpler has been super consistent over the years and even increased his touchdown total in 2006. by a receiving corps of Terrell Owens and a ton of unproven talent, there is no reason to expect a significant drop-off in production. Another top-24 finish from Glenn is great value from the WR35. TE Randy McMichael, St. Louis Rams ADP - 12.11 / TE14 / No. 143 Overall Selected by Levin, Pasquino, and Wood Levin - Former Dolphins OC Scott Linehan knows McMichael will fill the role of a tough receiver over the middle, thus complementing the team’s great outside receivers in Torry Holt and Drew Bennett. McMichael has never finished outside the top 12 fantasy TEs even with the poor QB play in Miami. Expect another top-10 finish from this TE14. McMichael’s upside is even higher. WR Brandon Jones, Tennessee Titans ADP - 13.02 / WR52 / No. 146 Overall Selected by Dowling, Grant, and Shick Shick - Jones finished the 2006 season strong as half of his receptions and three of his four scores coming in the final six games. Drew Bennett is gone, David Givens is hurt, and Jones has an opportunity to jell with the Titans new savior, QB Vince Young. Jones has far more upside than his current ADP indicates. Players Receiving 2 Votes RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings ADP - 4.09 / RB24 / No. 45 Overall Selected by Magaw and Tremblay WR Terry Glenn, Dallas Cowboys ADP - 9.04 / WR35 / No. 100 Overall Selected by Levin, Wimer, and Yudkin Levin - In each of the last two years, Terry Glenn has had more than 100 targets, 60 receptions and 1,000 yards. He has also accumulated 13 receiving TDs to give him WR12 and WR20 rankings. Surrounded FOOTBALLGUYS.COM Edgerrin James Tremblay - Chester Taylor was the No. 11 fantasy RB last year, but the much more talented Adrian Peterson is being drafted as the 24th RB off the board. Talk of RBBC in Minnesota won’t last beyond the first couple games of the season. The talent gap between Peterson FREE DAILY EMAIL: http://footballguys.com/email 27
