FIRST ANNUAL COMBINED MEET OF THE REGIONAL PACKARD, HUDSON, and
STUDEBAKER CLUBS DEEMED A SUCCESS

Sunday, October 8, was a beautiful fall day and perfect for the first combined meet of the clubs that
represent three of this country’s finest marques. Nearly 50 members brought 23 “orphaned” cars.
The meet, hosted by the Great Plains Regional Packard Club, commenced at the Antique Fan
Collectors’ museum, housed in the Vornado manufacturing facility in Andover, KS. Our club’s
members, Dick and Sue Boswell of Lincoln, NE, own several of the fans. Theme and dates of
manufacturer organize the fans; each one is carefully labeled. Our host, Alan Wicks, aptly described
some very early and rare fans. Most of the early fans are of the “brass era.” This is a “must see”

The group departed the fan museum and caravanned to Jim Mershon’s car barn in east Wichita.
Refreshments were served and tire kicking was rampant. Larry Tholen, who owns a 1932 Rockne Six
"75" 4-passenger Coupe, presented a brief history of the Rockne Automobile (once a Studebaker
marque). Malcolm Gillette and Andrew Wray took the pictures below. Kudos to Karin Gillette from
the Studebaker Driving Club and to Kathy Lawrence of the Hudson/Terraplane Club for helping.

COMMEMORATES THE EVENT
CHRISTMAS PARTY WAS HELD AT MERSHONS’ ON DECEMBER 3, 2006
Several of our members enjoyed a sumptuous meal at the Mershon’s—thanks to the fine cooks who
brought homemade food for a potluck. Elections were held and the new officers are on the
masthead. Four board members is probably an insufficient number; it was agreed that we should
elect 2 members-at-large. This is the notice that we will do so at our next meeting.
Allen Rich gave the treasurer’s report. Sales of fuel pumps remain steady. Several members paid
their 2007 dues.
The feature was a showing of a portion of a video of Bob Rich commenting on 50 or so slides of
pictures of car dealerships of the 1920’s through 1940’s. For those of you who knew Bob, there were
some of his typical witty remarks. The slides were of pictures from the Wichita Library archives and
Bob’s talk was videoed in the mid 1990’s at the Library.
We want to see you in our Christmas picture for 2007.

Jim,
Our club had its Dec. meeting last Sunday and I was asked to extend the invitation to the local
Packard and Hudson clubs to join our Studebaker group at its regular meeting on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007.
We will meet at 2 p.m. in the Park City Community Building at the North end of Park City (6801 N.
Hydraulic, in Hap McLean Park).
Your idea of the combined tour and the meeting at your Car Barn last Oct. was such a success we
thought that we would like to see the momentum for that effort continued. The idea will be for all of us to
discuss what we might want to try to do in combination in the future, particularly during 2007. Since it will be
our club meeting, we will plan to lead the discussions, but it will be very informal and all ideas and input will
be welcome from members of each of the three clubs.
