Two Day Antiques and Collectables Sale
Welcome back to Mulberry Bank Auctions and our much anticipated August sale.
You will see from our bustling saleroom that over the summer months we have been gathering an enormous
array of goodies to fill our auction with. We always aim to please and we are confident that there will be
something for everyone in this 819 lot sale. We have many lots to get through so without further ado, let us
begin!
Diamonds are, of course, a girl’s best friend and with lot 28 the lucky, lucky bidder will have a companion for life.
With an estimated retail value of £12,840, we are very excited to offer this impressive certified diamond solitaire
ring with an estimate of £5,000-5,500. Complete with its International Gemological Laboratories report, the
stunning colour (F) clarity (VS1) and excellent cut of the ring serve as a timely reminder to all gentlemen that it
is never too early to start the Christmas shopping. Diamonds aside, we once again have an exciting selection of
gemstones ranging from sapphires, rubies, tanzanites, aquamarines, emeralds and many more. What more could
you want?
Silver is as popular as ever and we have many crowd pleasers on display. Lot 151, the Art Deco four piece tea &
coffee set certainly deserves a mention, as does the ornate lot 145, an incredibly impressive George V silver bowl.
Lot 180 is worth having a closer look at; the WWI Imperial German silver cigarette case is a wonderful little
treasure and as we mark the Centenary of the Great War this lot, estimated at £40-50, will most certainly appeal
to any wartime collector.
If you haven’t been lucky enough to enjoy a summer holiday away this year, why not treat yourself to the next
best thing? Lots 529 & 530 are sure to transport you away to the fabulous French Riviera, courtesy of the late
D’Oyly John. No paintings section would be complete unless it featured some of Scotland’s magnificent scenery,
and lots 521, 527, 528 and 533 all respectively showcase the natural beauty our country has to offer.
You will have no doubt noticed in our window lot 516, the bronze bust of Sir John Stewart, a former Lord Provost
of Glasgow (1935-38). A ‘highly popular civic chief’, Stewart was an active Red Clydesider, with a clear socialist
disposition. Knighted in 1937, he was an advocate of pacifism and his legacy of large scale slum clearance in
Glasgow can still be seen to this day in and around the town. With an estimate of £600-800 this lot is sure to be
a highly popular piece.
Our furniture section again spans the centuries. A tangible piece of history exists in lot 717, the Charles II oak
chest of drawers. From the 1660s to the 1960s and lot 778, the Danish teak dining room suite. With an estimate
of £200-300, this fantastically retro collection of ultra-cool Scandinavian furniture will take pride of place in any
room. Keep an eye out on staff favourite lot 755, the Brünner walnut cased baby grand piano. This beautifully
crafted instrument will bestow upon the lucky winning bidder a touch of class that can only be attained from
owning such a refined piano.
As always it is impossible to profile everything in the auction but hopefully the above has provided you with the
perfect preview. Please note that this particular auction will be held over two days: jewellery, silverware and
ceramics will be auctioned on Friday, whilst collectables, pictures and furniture will appear on Saturday.
We look forward to seeing you on our viewing and sale days.
Happy bidding!

2. BUYING
Bidding
2.1
Bidders shall register their particulars with the Auctioneer prior to
bidding at an auction, and if requested shall provide banking or
other suitable references.
The highest bid accepted by the Auctioneer shall be the buyer at the

All bidders, unless otherwise agreed with the Auctioneer in advance, will be deemed to be buying as principals.
Once made and accepted by the Auctioneer, no bid may be withdrawn.

Bidding increments shall be at the Auctioneer’s sole discretion.
While pre-sale bids can be arranged, prospective buyers are strongly advised to attend the auction. You are always responsible for any decision to bid for a particular lot and it shall be assumed that You have carefully inspected and satisfied Yourself as to the
condition of a particular lot. If so instructed, the Auctioneer may bid on Your behalf but neither the Auctioneer nor any of its employees shall be responsible for any failure to do so. Where two or more pre-
sale bids at the same level are recorded, the Auctioneer reserves the right in its absolute discretion to prefer the first recorded bid.

a sliding scale which will be provided on request from the Auctioneer. No handling costs or additional fees are retained by
the Auctioneer. Resale royalties are not subject to VAT. The sterling
amount of the royalty payment is calculated at the relevant rate of
exchange at the European Central Bank on the date of sale as
