MEMBERSHIP MEETING SEPTEMBER 19th, 2008
Pres. Lloyd Cummins called the meeting to order at 7:00
pm, with 42 members in attendance.
The minutes of the last meetings were accepted as read.
The Treasurers report was submitted.
Under old business, Show Chairman John Borgardt
reported that we had approximately 60 tables available,
but anticipated bookings to pickup, as the date grew
closer.
Fred Simmons reported that the insurance policy had been
received.
Additionally the Transportation Safety
Administration report has not been released, nor has the
intent of the TSA been made clear to this time.
Pres. Cummins reminded everybody that our Trap Shoot
was the next day, Sat. 20 Sept., sign in starting at 9:00.
The shoot will consist of five stand, trap, wobble trap and
skeet. Lunch will be available. All of this at the Eugene –
Cottage Grove Sportsman’s Club in Creswell.
Annette Miller was introduced as our new Chief of
Security. A discussion of security and a security policy
was had, as we seem to be short of volunteers. To get a
sense of the membership on this issue, motion was made,
seconded and carried that the members are in agreement
that a security obligation is considered a part of the

The Gun of the Month was Home Protection Guns, one of
which was a 1919A4 machine gun, used only after giving
the culprit a reasonable head start. The gun for next
month is your Favorite Hunting Gun, which should be
presented with a story.
Paul Zurfluh won the drawing, which is notable as this is
the second time he has been drawn in the last two
months. By his absence, the award is carried over to next
month, which will be the amount of $90.00.
Three tickets were drawn for Gift Certificates.
Under Good of the Order, it was announced that Gordon
Scott and Bob Fisher had both died. Bob Fisher has
indicated that any donations received should be donated
to YHEC.

BOARD MEETING SEPTEMBER 19th, 2008
Pres. Cummins called the meeting to Order at 8:10 p.m.
with Roger Heinke, John Borgardt, Mike Flippin, Fred
Peeters, Annette Miller, Ron Herbert and Dick Klocko in
attendance.
An error in the membership applications was discussed, to
wit, the new membership fees were indicated as being
$25.00 if received prior to 31 Dec. The forms will be
reprinted to indicate the correct amount of $35.00, as well
as be dated, to avoid misunderstandings in the future.
Discussion was had regarding our theoretical obligation to
the NRA to maintain a 50% NRA member level, which we
seem to be falling short of. The question of a donation to
the NRA in an amount of $500.00 will be handed over to
the membership at the next meeting.
A discussion regarding the SKB Raffle program was
kicked around, tabled to next month. Refer to the
membership meeting.

LEGISLATIVE REPORT, SEPTEMBER 19th, 2008
The major news this month is that the “do nothing”
congress has actually done something positive for the 2nd
Amendment.
They passed the 2nd Amendment Enforcement Act-HR
6842 in a bi-partisan vote in the House. It now goes to the
Senate where Sen. Kaye Bailey Hutchison of Texas will try
and get it passed. This Bill repeals the Washington. DC
gun ban.
To cut to the chase regarding Obama & Biden on the
2nd Amendment, it should be noted that both refused
to sign the “friend of the court” brief submitted by
more than 300 members of congress supporting Heller.
Looking at the states, the Ohio Supreme Court just upheld
that states preemption law. The anti-gun folks are still
trying to get local cities in all states to pass anti-gun laws
and support them in court. This causes the NRA and local
pro-gun groups to spend money fighting them in court.

Looking outside the USA, Great Britain is slowly going
back to English Common Law on self-defense. The
headline on the English Daily Telegraph read, ”You have
the right to shoot dead a burglar”. Of course getting a gun
will be a problem. Actually this law permits the victim to
fight back against a burglar or mugger without being
charged.
This change came about after a British shopkeeper fought
back against an armed robber, took away the robbers
knife and stabbed him to death. The shopkeeper was
actually charged but the prosecutor later dropped the
charges after some publicity.
