Christmas at Amagertorv
The 2009 Christmas series, “Christmas at Amagertorv”, shows
one of the best preserved and oldest houses in inner Copenhagen.
The location is Amagertorv (Amager Square), and it is in this beautiful setting that Royal Copenhagen has run its shop since 1884.
The building was erected in 1616 for the mayor. On this year’s
plate, in front of the beautiful snow-clad building you see
Christmas shoppers, with packages in hand, trying to wind up
their Christmas shopping. Also visible is the Stork fountain, which
has been part of the beautiful setting at Amagertorv since 1894
and has made the square a favorite spot for locals and tourists
alike.

The history of Holmegaard Glassworks is the story of a couple of small
glass factories in a peat bog that, in the course of 175 years, became part
of a large, modern group. During the 20th century artists entered the picture as designers for Holmegaard's glassware. This was the start of a long
and proud tradition, with the result that some of Denmark's best artists are
now associated with glass production at Holmegaard.
