Moonlight Car Show and Street Party. Downtown
Wichita, KS www.automobilia.com
WAM Coordinator: Rick Aldrup Charger73@advcom.net 316-990-2727
Tim Bonnell previous WAM Chairman says –
Supercar club has stated this conversation- “Ok
gents want to get the conversation started on
Automobilia. I talked to Gary, and he is willing to
help us out. We will have our own dedicated area,
also he said we could provide our own music, so no
more endless doowap music all day. The show
takes place July 9th. Also Ray has told me that him
and some of the Colorado super cars group will be
joining us also,
Continued- Automobilia July 9th
which will include a Porsche 918. So seriously this
will be the ultimate get together of the summer. I
would love to see 40+ cars from the two groups. On
a side note this will be a great time to talk to Ray
about Cars and Color in Colorado.” However,
WAM officers spoke to Gary at Automobilia today
and he knows nothing about the Supercar Club
having preregistered. So who knows. Police may
be in our area kicking out unregistered cars and
gate crashers per Gary. WAM is going to be
located at 1st Street & Mosley. Helping
members please pre-register your Mopar to
participate early and definitely contact Rick A
before showing up. WAM can save some spaces
for those in line arriving upon opening of gates.

Our attendance showed 52 participating Mopars,
served over 150 Dogs for lunch, Gave out nearly
100 door prizes and awarded seven recognition
awards for Participants Choice, Peoples Choice
and Sponsors Choice. Three custom awards
were made by Sam Shoffner and were all mopar!
Four gift certificates were also awarded for runner
up. All show vehicles received a wall plaque that
matches the show shirt back. Two vendors and
two swap spaces were also on hand. Weather
while threatening held off until the end of the show
during awards but the rain was short lived with
nothing serious. Only complaint was Ron talked
on mic too much about sponsors and WAM. Two
Hot Rod Power Tour long haulers were present
who also did the Mopowered part of the tour. We
did miss some out of towners who were drawn
away by competing event in KC by Roadkill.

• WAM “ALL MOPAR MEET” June
24th, 2017. Saturday. Sedgwick
County Park. Wichita KS.
HOT ROD POWER TOUR 2016 REPORT
Three WAM members go on HOT ROD POWER
Tour and participate in the MOPOWERED TOUR
stopping to see several MOPAR venues. Mike
Sage joined in at OK City to Wichita. Ron and Nell
Mayes did the LONG HAUL from Gonzales, LA to
Houston, Austin, Dallas Texas, OKC, Wichita and
Kansas City in our 2016 Charger Hellcat getting 27
MPG and travelling about 3,000 miles in 9 days.
Nearly 100 Mopars grouped together for the
Mopowered
tour coordinated
by Mopar Muscle
Magazine {within
the Chevy Hot
Rod Tour no
less} and we got
to make all sorts
of new friends.
Along the way
we were treated
to the Mopar Collectors Guide Party, HEMI
HIDEOUT, Cowtown Mopars Meetup, WARDS
MOPAR Body Shop in Krum, TX, Bob Tyler
Collection in Winfield, WAM Mopars Meetup and
more. Every night the hotel parking lots were a mini
car show with lots of friendly car people. Next year
the Hot Rod Tour will start from Kansas Speedway
in KC.
This was our first HOT ROD POWER Tour ever
and we experienced “THOUSANDS” of participants
driving from venue to venue with all sorts of great
looking vehicles with friendly people. Ron and Nell
hung out with the KC bunch with HPAC whenever
we could. I was worried about the 331 Hemi
powered Rat Rod of Chris that had no roof, bad
tires, open headers and not much seat padding.
They did manage to find new front tires in Dallas
and had them mounted up in OKC. They made the
long haul without incident. YES it rained on us for
the first three
days of the trip
and then was
HOTTER than
HELL tour 95+
degrees
everyday with
the humidity.
Couldn’t have
done this
without AC.
Modern and
Classic Mopars
were found
throughout the
Tour numbering
up to a 1,000 by
my estimation. Could not see everything it was
such a large show with over 300 pictures taken by
me alone.
Upper left Nell Mayes with 16 Hellcat Charger on Tour,
Hemi Superbird at the Hemi Hideout which also hosts
300 neon and 900 painted signs. Wards Body Shop was
featured on American Pickers Show. We have enough
details to plan a road trip of our own someday to go back
and see these wonderful places.

Nights KC, the quickest qualifier was Troy Aves in a
1967 Dodge Dart (with a ’68 grille) powered by a
turbo late-model Hemi. He ran the 620 feet in 6.48
seconds. Next came Doyle Hanvy’s 1970
Challenger at 6.69, Randal Andra’s 1970
Challenger at 7.13, and Jim Sams’ 2015 Dodge
Challenger SRT Hellcat at 7.17. The final win order
fell into the exact same ranking, but only after ties
in points led to a head-to-head showdown with the
two Plum Crazy 1970 Challengers with the winner
earning the right for the final match with Troy’s
turbo Dart. Struggling with an overheating
transmission, Troy beat Doyle by half a fender in
front of a wild crowd.

RoadKill event RACE at Kansas Speedway on
June 18th has 316 Mopar winner of $10,000.
Runner up from our area took 3rd.
Roadkill Nights event had an all-new idea for streetcar drag racing eliminations, a $19,000 purse for
just four cars, and 11,800 people through the gate!
It was all on Saturday, June 18, as the Roadkill
video series hosted the first-ever drag races on pit
road at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.
The event was Roadkill Nights, powered by
Dodge—a follow-up to the first event of the same
name that ransacked the parking lot of the
Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan, in August 2015.
The Roadkill Nights events include a general car
show, a Dodge-only car show, and Dodge Thrill
Rides in new Hellcats and Vipers, but the main
attraction is street-style drag racing. At Roadkill
Mopars At the Strip ran a Scat Pack and Hellcat ¼
mile drag Shootout with WAM member James
Darter taking runner up with his Scat Pack
Challenger in stock trim. Jim was featured in this
current issue of Mopar Muscle Magazine as well as
the stats of the other participating cars.
Pictured is Jims Challenger at The Chill Show.
