IHOP Coney Island to Open by
Thanksgiving Day
According to IHOP franchisee Bryan McKenzie the restaurant
will be opening it’s doors for pancakes by Thanksgiving. The
Coney Island Blog was initially told that the Surf ave. IHOP
was to be open last April, while other news sources reported a
June or July 2016 opening. However, Coney Island IHOP owner
Bryan McKenzie told the Coney Island Blog yesterday that they
plan on opening by the fourth week of November.
So why the delay? According to McKenzie post Superstorm Sandy
regulations dictated that a larger barrier wall had to be
built in the front of the restaurant to block another storm
surge.
IHOP is the most recent of the national chains to open on Surf
ave. The IHOP sign was hoisted up earlier this week. This
location will be on the north side of Surf Ave. between W.12th
and W. 8th st.

Ruby's boardwalk makeover for
new Woody Allen film
After being delayed one week Woody Allen’s new film is just
about ready to roll at Coney Island, with a slightly altered
Ruby’s Bar and Grill in a cameo scene. Say hello to Ruby’s
Clam House! All food fresh daily! The film crew hoisted the
temporary throw back sign above Ruby’s this morning.
They even created a sign for the former Stauch’s Bathhouse
(will hang over Lola Star Boutique), we remember first hand
seeing it being demolished back in the winter of 92′. Stauch’s
was one of the bathhouses managed by Ruby Jacobs before he
opened Ruby’s Bar and Grill in 1975. Stauch’s Bathhouse also
had the iconic grafitti featured in the cult film classic “The
Warriors.”
@TheConeyIslandBlog
Traditionally Woody Allen keeps his films’ plot lines under
wraps until release time; however, one of the films stars
“spilled the beans” to the Coney Island Blog last week about
the films’ basic premise.
The film’s star Kate Winslet plays a character that is being
targeted by a character played by former Soprano’s star Tony
Sirico, aka Paulie Walnuts. Kate Winslet’s character falls in
love with a Coney Island lifeguard portrayed by Justin
Timberlake.

Boxing
Pulls Monster Ratings for NBC
(Video)
The sport of boxing is not new to Coney Island, in fact some
of the earliest filmed fights had taken place here in the late
19th century. Read about Coney Island’s boxing history
here. MCU has hosted boxing in the past; however, last
Sunday’s welterweight fight between Errol Spence and Leonard
Bundu at the Ford Amphitheater drew a mindblowing 4.6
overnight rating or 6 million viewers for NBC.
Bundu was no Italian Stallion, as Spence knocked him out in
the 6th round.
The Texas born Spence, a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team
(21-0 with 18 knock outs) has now earned a shot at the title.
According to fightnews.com Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. now
has a mandatory shot at the title against IBF welterweight
champ Kell Brook. ” I want him next. I’ve paid my dues said
Spence.

Dirty Pearls take the party
to Steeplechase Beergarden
Local hard rock act the Dirty Pearls opened for Boston at the
Ford Amphitheater on Wednesday night. Skid Row guitarist Dave
“The Snake” Sabo was there to check out the Pearls and their
lead singer Tommy London, who charmed the pants off of the
crowd and even heckled some audience members for showing up
late. The boys from the band brought the official afterparty
to Steeplechase Beergarden for a meet and greet event. Band
leader Brian Newman who joined the Dirty Pearls on stage was
at Steeplechase Beergarden along with his wife burlesque star
and former Miss Cyclone Angie Pontani.
The Pearls got to chum it up with members of local favorite
band Radio Daze (who just happen to be playing at Steeplechase
Beergarden 9:30pm tonight).
The Dirty Pearls will sure be returning to Coney Island.
Maybe we can convince them to play Steeplechase Beergarden?
