The Fern Park Ice rink has seen a great uptick in skating, especially in the evenings by pickup hockey players. They have been great to the facility leaving behind very little trash and no graffiti. We would like to thank them for their patronage. 2. The fire and lights festival went off very smooth, a big thank you to Paul Chambers and all the volunteers 3. Our new VK Yamaha snowmobile is in our groomer shed and with the lack of snow it has yet to see a great deal of use but the Parks staff would like to thank the board for the upgrade. 4. Raquette Lake Supply is installing a new Over head heater blower under the Post office in the Parks Shop as the one that was there can not be fixed. 5. New Bench’s are now in the work shop as they were delivered by ACE Hardware and the Staff will be putting these as well as new picnic table together in the next week. 6. Plans on rehabilitation of the Board Room / Court Room are on track as soon as the material from JK arrives. 7. The staff worked with the Library Board to help them with some odds and ends they needed before a carpet company comes to redo the flooring. 4 InformationOfficeReportforthemonthFebruary2016 1. An email was sent to Paul Chambers asking him to confirm the 120 races, and a Facebook post was sent to the PTP asking if they want to bring back the ice skating party. An email was also sent to Ted Christodaro, Dave Scranton & Jim Connerty asking them if they still want to try and hold a fat bike race on this day. Hiram responded stating there would most likely be 3 adults and 4 youths planning to be there. He will contact Georgia about staying at the fire hall. Wednesday, January 13 Adele emailed Mary & the library again. Tuesday, January 19 Adele talked with Mary about possibly moving the time for the Noah’s Ark to either start at 10:00 or 4:00. Adele is to meet with the PTP tomorrow and confirm their plans, and then she will get back with Mary. Highway Department has already begun building up the snow bank at Arrowhead Lakefront. Wednesday, January 20 the PTP will be selling hot beverages and snacks from 12:00-4:00 near the trail sign at Fern Park. They will need a couple tables and a few chairs, electricity & extra trash cans. Monday, January 25 Mary confirmed the times for Noah’s to be 10:00-12:00. Wednesday, January 27 Joanne Kelly confirmed the times for the Library to be 10:00-2:00. Adele emailed Diane Amos asking her to share the information with the Key Club kids, hoping some may be available to help that day. A poster was emailed to Inlet area businesses and the Town of Webb Visitor Center, asking them to please print and hang the poster. A press release was emailed to The Adirondack Express, Hamilton County Express & The Weekly Adirondack. The parks department began grooming the hill for the sled race and setting a track for the 120 races at Fern Park. Friday, January 29 Rebecca Hasemeier said she would be able to paint faces during Noah’s Ark. Friday, February 4 Greg & Toni Rudd were selected and they accepted the role of king & queen. Margie will interview them over the phone on Sunday for an article to be sent to the papers. Adele ordered 2 potties for Fern Park and 2 for Arrowhead Park. Saturday, February 6 a Work Request form was sent to highway & parks (this will be sent in December next year) listing things needing to be done before the event: snow barrier @ Arrowhead, parking plowed @ Fern, sledding hill groomed, oval track set on ball field @ Fern, pile of clean snow for sculpture @ Arrowhead entrance; and things that need to be done the day before and day of the event: stands for tiki torches @ Arrowhead, blue banners @ Fern, photo booth @ Fern then moved to Arrowhead, tables, chairs, trash cans & electric for PTP @ Fern, tables, chairs, trash cans, grill & electric for Paul @ Arrowhead, fencing for fireworks @ Arrowhead, Event Parking signs, bathroom attention throughout the day. Cardboard total $200.10. An email blast was sent out through Constant Contact about the event. Wednesday, February 17 the coronation props arrived. Adele emailed Ted asking him to borrow a couple stopwatches, and emailed Andrew asking to borrow a bullhorn. Thursday, February 18 trophies and medals arrived. Highway dumped a big pile of snow at Arrowhead entrance for a throne. Forecast says possible rain on Saturday, so Margie & Adele will wait until Wednesday to work on it. Saturday, February 20 the Work Request form was sent again to parks reminding them of the things that need to be done the day before and the day of the event. Adele printed out registration forms, rules & forms to keep track of the sleds for the cardboard sled races. Jamie said she wasn’t sure if the PTP was going to be able to set up at Fern Park. Only two were left saying they could be there. Tuesday, February 23 a full-page ad ran in the Express. Adele as Wednesday, February 24 rained all day. There was very little snow before the rain started. Thursday, February 25 Adele & Margie chopped at the pile of snow which had become pretty icy to try and make a backdrop for the king & queen. They decided to make an indentation for a couple of chairs for the royalties to sit upon and surround them with greens stuck into the snow bank. Margie will bring in a snowflake tablecloth to drape over the chairs. Friday, February 26 & Adele put the finishing touches on the snow chair for the king & queen. Adele boxed up her stuff for Fern Park: registration forms, pens, pencils, sharpies, trophies, medals, stopwatches, bullhorn. During the 4 hours the table was set up she also had help from Britta & Devlin Hennessey, Keir Weirmer and Chris Holt. 15 sleds registered for the Cardboard Sled Race. 2 of these sleds were competing in the circuit. Because the hill was icy with very little snow, it was decided not to race the sleds on it. Instead we had the age groups line up and push their sleds across the ball field. The sleds were inspected for safety by Bruce O’Hara and judged in 5 categories by Margie O’Hara, Nancy Jennings, Ron Dearlove & Carie Hodel. 13 children raced 15 sleds in the Kid’s Snowmobile Races (2 Kitty Cat and two kids each raced 2 sleds). Happy Hour at The Woods Inn had a good crowd. Bob Gordon had the bonfire going and Reggie, Paul, George Merrill, Anne Carnell, James Carnell, JoAnne Meneilly & Gordy Rudd had everything else set up at Arrowhead by 5:15 and were serving hotdogs & hot cider before 5:30. The awesome fireworks by American Fireworks went off right at 7:00 and lasted about 15 minutes. After the fireworks Joe Bolton was playing at The Woods Inn and wine & chocolate was pouring at Screamen Eagle. The king & queen attended every activity. They handed out 288 beads throughout the day and a bag of glowsticks (from the Youth Commission) at Arrowhead Park. They also handed out all the trophies for the cardboard sled races and the snowmobile races. Not all of the 500 hot dogs (donated by Doug & Betty Hugelmaier) were given away. The uncooked hot dogs will be sold during the vintage races. The king & queen agreed to make an appearance aboard one of Inlet’s fire trucks in Old Forge’s St. Patty’s Day Parade on March 18. The rest of the beads (and maybe a few more) will be given away then. Wednesday, March 2 Adele & Paul got together to make sure everyone was thanked for the great weekend in a press release that will be sent to the Adirondack Express and the Weekly Adirondack and also posted on InletNY.com & Inlet’s Facebook page.
