The Universal Care Unit features 10 small clinic rooms, 6 large clinic rooms, 3 consult (talk) rooms, and 1 large group consult room. The UCU includes a large dedicated room for therapies and has a staff touchdown area. This touchdown location has no walls and no offices to promote a team environment and collaboration among providers. Clinic rooms include the Electronic Medical Record system on a computer within the room, kanban inventory systems that allow stock to be replenished privately without having to be inside the room, a call system to optimize patient flow, and power examination tables. There is also a cart station where special carts and cupboards are setup to provide additional supplies and equipment for special types of care (foot care, wound care, lacerations/incisions, etc.). Carts are color coded for quick access. Acute Care The facility features a 2 bay trauma room for those in medical distress and facing an emergency situation. The room features cardiac and physiological monitoring for cardiac and respiratory distress. The Laboratory is built with modular furniture, allowing items to be moved around as required and features a pass-through for specimens to be transferred from the washroom directly into the Laboratory. The X-ray department is located next to the lab for easy access and the entire X-ray room is lead-lined for staff and patient safety. The acute care nursing station has clear sight lines to the front entrance and anchors the two acute care wings. These sight lines, as well as a video monitoring system, ensure staff and patient security and safety. Isolation and observation rooms are conveniently located at the core of the inpatient services unit, directly across from the unit clerk workstation. There are 12 beds in each acute care wing for a total of 24. The rooms each include a ceiling mounted lift, their own washroom and shower, large windows that can open, a pull out chair for guests to sleep on, a television, and kanban inventory systems. There are bariatric acute care rooms for bariatric patients. These rooms include widened doorways, double beam ceiling lifts, larger beds/equipment/furnishings, and have larger square footage. The acute care tub room includes a bathtub and shower, towel warmers, and a ceiling mounted lift. Home care clients will receive their baths in the acute care tub rooms. Long Term Care The facility features 48 long term care beds that are divided into 3 identical houses: Prairie Meadows, Paradise Pines, and Prairie Oasis. Each house has its own exterior entrance, as can be seen on the previous page’s map, so families and friends who are visiting do not need to track through the main entrance and other areas of the facility. Each house features a fully functioning kitchen for residents to participate in meal preparation if they wish to do so. There is a dining and sitting area with beautiful views and access to a secure courtyard outside. Resident rooms feature significant natural light with large windows that can easily be opened from a seated position. All rooms feature their own washroom and shower, a memory box, ceiling mounted lifts that reach all areas of the room, and enough space for residents to bring in their own furniture if they wish to do so (furniture being brought in must first be authorized). Each house also features two rooms connected by an internal doorway to offer an adjoining rooms option for a couple to stay together. Each long term care house features an amazing spa room with walk-in tub, towel warmers, and a very home-like feel. Spa rooms will be used for relaxation, cleansing, and enjoyment. In-floor heating exists throughout the entire long term care area of the facility to offer maximum resident comfort. Near the main entrance to long term care is a Town Hall. The Town Hall is a large room that may be used for group activities, community events, and family events like birthday parties and anniversaries. The Town Hall features a kitchenette, a multi functional sound system, and a divider to split the room into two, when necessary. A hair salon is also located between the three long term care houses. Other Features The facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art kitchen for meal preparation, meals on wheels coordination, and to support the three long term care houses for their meal preparations. Outside of the kitchen is a retail servery that offers visitors the ability to purchase small food items such as sandwiches, salads, cookies, coffee, juice, etc. The servery includes a comfortable sitting area. A large conference room is located near the front entrance next to the administration area and will be used for large meetings and limited community group access. A donation board is located in the main entrance atrium and highlights the major donors that contributed to the fundraising project of the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility. The donation board features lights that will offer an eye-catching look at night. Acute and universal care services began operations at the SIHF on June 17, 2015. Long term care services are anticipated to begin in August 2015. Questions? Please email sihf@cypressrha.ca.
