THE BREAKAWAY TODAY
THE BREAKAWAY TODAY
The Official Newsletter for Breakaway Trails HOA, Inc.
April to June - 2013
THE TENNIS COURTS AND BASKETBALL COURT have been
resurfaced and look beautiful. Even though the start date was delayed, it has been
worth the wait. New cameras were installed to expand the surveillance area.
THE POOL RESTROOMS have been renovated.
The thirty year old restrooms were in need of a makeover.
Please remember the only way to access the pool area and
restrooms is with a pool card. The pool card will also give
you access to the restrooms at the pavilion, and turn on
the tennis and basketball court lights. They are available
at the HOA office for $10.00.

IMPORTANT NOTICES
Memorial Day, formerly known as
Decoration Day, is May 27, 2013. It is always
celebrated on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day
is a day of remembering the men and women who
died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
It originated after the American Civil War to
commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers
who died in the Civil War . By the 20th century,
Memorial Day was extended to honor all Americans
who have died in all wars. Memorial Day is not to be
confused with Veterans Day; Memorial Day is a day
of remembering the men and women who died while
serving , while Veterans Day celebrates the service of
all U.S. military veterans, living or dead. Memorial Day was not declared the official name by Federal Law until 1967 and was always celebrated on May 30th. On June 28, 1968, the Congress
passed the uniform Monday Holiday Act, which moved four holidays, including Memorial Day from
their traditional dates to a specified Monday in order to create a convenient three day weekend.
The law took effect at the federal level in 1971. Within a few years, all 50 states adopted
Congress’s change of date.
IF TRASH CANS only had legs and could walk up to your house and tuck
themselves into the garage or behind the fence, then everyone would be in
compliance with the Covenants and Restrictions for Breakaway Trails. But, that is
not the case. Trash cans are in front of garages, on the side of the house or at the
end of the driveway many days after the trash has been picked up. Please
remember to bring in your trash cans and make sure they can not be seen.
SPRING IS HERE and it brings lots of beauty with it. But, it also starts the growing season for
weeds in your landscaping beds and lawns. Here are some ways to control them.
1) Crowd them out with thick lawn cover.
2) Keep the soil healthy
3) Mulch garden beds or cover the beds with landscape fabric.
4) Pull weeds before they go to seed.
5) Use a commercial weed preventer.
It has been a mild winter which can mean more weeds than
ever will be interfering with your landscaping. As everyone is
aware, excessive weeds in the landscaping beds and on the
lawn areas are a violation of the Covenants and Restrictions of
Breakaway Trails. So now is the time to pay attention to those
pesky weeds.
While the social media explodes, so do the criminals. Facebook participants have
been the latest victims. Some people have been very open on their pages and have
broadcasted about their trips away from home. When they return, they discover they
are the victims of crime. So if you are a Facebook user, don’t write about your
pending vacations because you could become a victim by a Facebook Stalker.
MANAGER’S NOTES


Warning Signs are for EVERYONE!
Caution signs read: “ONE VEHICLE PER GATE OPENING”
Don’t pass through decal reader until vehicle in front of you is safely through and
gate arm is down.
If the gate arm is not allowed to come completely down, it can damage the
mechanism.
Racing past the auto decal reader does not guarantee that decal can be read or
the arm will raise.
Hitting gate arm may disconnect it from the control box.
Resident will be charged for any damage to gate arm.
If the arm hits a windshield it could break it (it does happen!).
Resident is NOT to ask a vehicle to tailgate them through the resident lane!!!!
A beep sounds inside the guard house when a “decaled” vehicle passes through
the reader.
Residents in a rental car: please use the guest lane and show your identification.
Reminder: Costly maintenance and security issues such as these are preventable.

NOTICES
HOLIDAY TRASH PICK UP
SCHEDULE
There will be no interruption in the trash pick
up days and recycling days due to The
Memorial Day Holiday on Monday, May 27,
2013. The trash pick up days will be Tuesday,
May 28 and
Friday, May 31st.
Recycling will
remain on Friday,
May 31st. Please
remember not to
put your trash out
in just plastic bags
that can be torn
open by the birds
or other animals.
IT’S A PICK ME UP!!! There
have been so many articles in
the newsletters about owners
not picking up after their dogs. It
is very discouraging to learn
from the residents that there are
still some dog owners that don’t
care about other residents or
the children in our community. They are
walking their dogs on vacant lots, cul de sacs
or the dog field and never picking up after
their canines. Is no one considering that other
people walk in these areas or that children
may want to play near the areas? SO PICK IT
UP, PLEASE !!! It is also an Ormond Beach
City Ordinance.
New additions to the Clubhouse
On February 12th, one of the resident ducks ,
Mabel, had 16 babies. It appears that her best
friend, Hazel, will be trying to top that number,
shortly.
