About Symposium
İSTANBUL
2016
The Air War College, the highest academic institution of the Turkish Air Force,
researches the application, the transformation, and the future of the Air & Space
Power in an ever changing threat environment. In this context, the purpose of the
conference is to share ideas and different perspectives on Air & Space Power used
against today’s challenging world. The symposium will include participation by high
level military authorities, renowned academicians, and representatives from major
aviation industries encompassing more than fifty countries, following the motto of
‘Contemporary Challenges to Air & Space Power’.
Air & Space Power has the ability to operate independently thanks to the
distinguished features of speed and flexibility. These features should be taken into
account, along with other military force elements, to create synergy. From this stand
point, the lessons learned from recent joint/combined operations and the perspectives
of the other forces on Air & Space Power in joint/combined operations will be discussed
in the first session.
Obviously, today more than ever, Air & Space Power needs to be used in Irregular
Warfare, just like Conventional Warfare, because of the changing threat perception.
In addition, cyber space is appearing as a new dimension in warfare. To this extent,
Irregular Warfare and cyber attacks, will be discussed in the second and third sessions
of the Air & Space Power Symposium.
Air & Space Power gains new capabilities against ever-evolving threats. By this
token, state-of-the art technology developments in various sectors are at the forefront.
Increasing and thus maintaining power and deterrence of Air & Space Power
using high technology depends largely on keeping up with developing technologies.
Therefore, developing technologies and realizing their effects on Air & Space Power,
will be discussed in the final session.
Distinguished speakers and participants will have the oppurtunity to share different
perspectives and evaluations on Air & Space Power topics together. ISAW 16 will
be held in Istanbul, where two continents meet, sharing the motto of ‘Contemporary
Challenges of Air & Space Power’ by the Turkish Air War College. We believe that the
symposium will contribute greatly to the developments and the future of Air & Space
Power in many aspects.
You are cordially invited to the International Symposium on Air Warfare 2016 (ISAW
‘16) taking place 30 March-01 April 2016 at the Turkish War Colleges in Istanbul which
will be hosted by the Turkish Air Force and Turkish Air War College.
