Mission report for Area 51
Voyage to the Triassic Period
28th February 2015:
9:46am about to land the time machine on the land mass of Pangea, 230
million years ago, flying over it now it looks dry, dusty and harsh just like the
BBC video I watched on the flight said it would be.
9:49am landed in a swamp, bad start, suddenly a
Redondosaurus flew up at me. A Redondosaurus is
not a dinosaur but a reptile. I got a picture from the
internet [left]. I got back into the machine, pressed 4
wheel drive mode and drove away into the sand. I
lost him.
1:01pm I am now in
a forest near a coastal area of Pangea there are
forests that a full of life. Ferns, ginkgo, cycads
and animals, looking and seeing a dragonfly
made me feel at home. Wait, this dragonfly is
huge, I mean bigger than my arm. I ducked and
it went over me. Looking near ferns I saw my
first dinosaur, Eoraptor [right]. Their name means early plunderer. The group
of them were snapping around the ferns but finding nothing. I didn’t have any
insects to feed them but I did have a piece of pork which I threw to them.
8:30pm I have just taken some photos of the
landscape. What is that tugging at my leg? It
turns out to be one of the first mammals to appear
on earth known as Morganucodon. It pulled me
out of the way as a large dinosaur ran past. Taking
a closer at the dinosaur, I realised that it was a
predator known as the Gojirasaurus. I picked up
the tiny mammal and slowly backed away from
the dinosaur. Snapping a twig, the dinosaur turned in our direction. I turned
around and ran for it. I headed towards a river that was nearby and called up
my time machine on my phone. It appeared in front of us and just as the
Gojisaurus was about to attack we escaped and disappeared.
9.15pm I have the Morganucodon with me. I am worried about how
travelling forward in time will be for him. So far he seems fine.
Whew, hard day today plus it was HOT and Hot and Hot. It was 100f [38c]
in the Triassic Period.
Voyage to the Jurassic Period
1st March 2015:
8.30am today I have some fellow
travellers with me, my cousin Jordi and our
dog Anzac. We are headed to Gondwana
[right], 150 million years ago.
10.57am flying over the large continent
of Gondwana it looks like it is a bit wetter
than the Triassic and there are more plants.
11.05am another terrible landing, this
landing in the mud. The machine is stuck.
Walking towards dry land we saw a big
dinosaur in the distance. As we got closer it
towered over us. It was a Diplodocus [Left].
Then we saw a few small predators attack the
large dinosaur. How was it going to defend
itself? Suddenly, the Diplodocus used its tail
and cracked it like a whip. The sound was
deafening, we had to cover our ears as the
predators all ran off. It was time for us to keep exploring.
1.34pm a herd of Stegosaurus has joined us. I wanted to see them up close
so that I could test the theories about what the plates on their back were for
but I was almost knocked over by
a herd of Dryasaurus. They were
running so fast, are they being
chased? I yelled at Jordi and
Anzac to run and I began to pick
up speed too. We couldn’t keep
up with the Dryasaurus who can
reach up to 40 km/h. We turned
around and came face to face with
an Allosaurus [right], the largest
land predator of this period. We
hit the deck trying not to draw
attention to ourselves. Just in time, another Allosaurus caught up with the
herd of Dryasaurus and the two Allosaurus started fighting over their kill. We
escaped again.
6.28pm we have dug the time machine out of the mud. We are ready to go
home.
