Each year Waban has approximately 30 athletes (with 12
support staff members) who proudly attend the Summer
Special Olympics in Orono Maine. These athletes compete
with hundreds of fellow athletes for medals in running and
walking events, shot put, softball throw, long jump, standing
long jump, and bowling competitions. There is an ever
increasing cost associated with sending these athletes to
Orono. All participants travel together on one large coach bus
allowing time for team building and socializing with fellow
athletes. Each athlete is responsible for paying their entry fee
PLUS they pay a fee for transportation to the games. The
over all cost of these games is over $6,000 per year. Waban
has subsidized these transportation costs in the past but in
this environment can no longer do so.
Your participation in the WABAN Golf Tournament will
help ensure that these athletes can continue to have the
opportunity to compete and excel.
