Success Stories “Hong Kong is the best place to establish our first Asian office. It is not only the crossroads of the Asian economy but also of all the investments that flow towards Europe.” Stefano Beghi, Managing Partner, Gianno, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli Partners Italian Law Firm Opens New Chapter in Asia The opening of its Asian headquarters in Hong Kong represents a milestone in the internationalisation of Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners Founded in 1988, Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners is one of Italy’s largest full-service law firms. Its mission is to develop a firm with international capabilities. In addition to the offices in Italy, Abu Dhabi, Brussels, London and New York, the opening of the Hong Kong office signifies a new chapter in the firm’s development. The firm’s diverse client base includes industrial and commercial corporations, financial institutions, private funds and governments. In addition to Milan and Rome, the firm also has offices in other economic clusters in Italy, including Bologna, Padua, Turin, enabling it to be in a better position to connect Hong Kong with different hubs in Italy. “Hong Kong is the best place to establish our first Asian office. The rule of law is very clear; this is a big advantage compared with other jurisdictions. The city is one of the world’s financial and economic centres. Hong Kong is not only the crossroads of the Asian economy but also of all the investments that flow towards Europe,” Stefano Beghi, Managing Partner, Gianno, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli Partners, said. Beghi finds Hong Kong an international and safe city. While it is far from his home geographically, he feels close to the inhabitants here. “Institutions like InvestHK are very important for us as we feel that we have a hotline for everything. The department is very friendly and professional and provides concrete information not only for our firm, but for our current and potential clients as well. We share a common goal – to enrich the business environment in Hong Kong and our capabilities for future clients,” he concluded. “It’s true that Hong Kong is a very competitive market but it is exactly this environment which drives us to do better. People here understand our value proposition,” he added. Mixed Team Approach Beghi heads the Hong Kong office with two staff and a team of four in Milan. He plans to recruit additional staff based in Hong Kong in the near future. The firm practises Italian law and teams up with local law firms to serve clients. “This is a strategic decision as we want to create synergy. It’s also a faster way to enter a new market,” Beghi explained. The Hong Kong office increases the firm’s capability to serve Italian clients with an interest in Mainland China and Asia Pacific as well as local and foreign clients doing business in Italy. In the long run, the firm may consider opening further offices in Mainland China through Hong Kong.
