Located on 13 beautiful acres on Salt Road in Webster, Heritage Christian Stables is a therapeutic horsemanship program for children and adults with disabilities and diverse needs. The remarkable site includes a 65-by-120-foot indoor arena, mounting ramp, observation deck, 13 horse stalls and a 100-by-190-foot out-door riding ring. Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship certified horseback riding instructors and a team of trained volunteers ensure that each rider enjoys a safe lesson, catered to their unique needs. In July 2007, Heritage Christian Stables received the PATH Premier Accredited Center Status. PATH is the national organization for equine assisted activities and therapies and was established in 1969 to promote and support therapeutic riding in the United States. Heritage Christian Stables demonstrated adherence to established industry standards through an onsite evaluation by PATH accreditation visitors. The visit included evaluation in the areas of administration, program, and facility and requires that all lessons are directly supervised by PATH certified riding instructors. MEET OUR HERITAGE CHRISTIAN STABLES TEAM LORRIE RENKER, DIRECTOR Lorrie is a PATH master therapeutic riding instructor (1986) and an interactive vaulting instructor (2007). She received her training at the Cheff Center in Michigan (1985) and has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. In 1997, she was honored with the James Brady Professional Achievement Award. From 1996-2000, she served as the director of Therapeutic Riding and Visiting Faculty at St. Andrews College in North Carolina. In that position she helped develop the first four-year degree program in therapeutic riding. She has conducted workshops nationally and internationally in Korea, Japan, Germany and New Zealand. LISA PARISI KATIE POSNER barn manager PATH advanced instructor and graduate of High Hopes therapeutic riding course STEPH RULE SAM SCHAUBROECK barn staff PATH advanced instructor NIKI WHILDEN ELIZABETH WOODWARD PATH advanced instructor and recipient of the 2010 PATH Region II Instructor of the Year PATH registered instructor Ask us about our Instructor-in-Training program! Learn more at www.heritagechristianstables.org THERAPEUTIC RIDING: HORSES HELPING PEOPLE Therapeutic horsemanship brings horses and people together to create a special bond. That relationship provides physical, educational, emotional and spiritual benefits to all that participate. Every day we see these benefits translate into help for people with disabilities and diverse needs. We have seen a rider: …leave her wheel-chair behind. Perhaps experiencing what walking feels like for the first time, through the horse’s four legs and unique three dimensional movements. … control the horse independently, without leaders or sidewalkers. Even canter and feel the freedom and satisfaction of accomplishment. …. utter his first words as he tells his horse to “walk on.” And we see our dedicated volunteers moved to tears when they are part of a rider’s success. To learn more about our volunteer opportunities, visit www.heritagechristianstables.org, or call Kim Kennedy at (585) 340-2016. MEET OUR HERITAGE CHRISTIAN STABLES HORSES A therapeutic riding horse must have a great temperament, be sound and able to walk, trot and canter. Those are big horseshoes to fill! Heritage Christian Stables owns many of the horses in the program, often through generous donations. Some of the horses are loaned to us for lessons and others for special events. Thank you to all those friends who share their special horses.
