Good results for the Might Ranga as they took three wins over East Tamaki in the “Battle of the East”!
The Premiers were made to work hard for their 41-20 win over a fired up East Tamaki side. First five
Tony Fenner was the standout ,leading the team around the field and setting up several attacking
movements including scoring two tries himself. While it was great to see Salesi “Charles” Piutau back
in the green and orange and he made some crunching runs from fullback!
The Premier Reserves turned around a half time deficit to run out comfortable winners 36-12 over a
physical East Tamaki side. The highlight of the game was three of the tries scored by the Reserves
came through clinical set piece moves.
Our Under 21s continued to stay in first place in their competition with a big 55-13 win over East
Tamaki. The win was even more pleasing as they were able to rotate and rest some of their squad
without losing structure.
The Under 19s went down 12-10 to College Rifles. In a close encounter the boys played their best
game of the season so far but were unable to convert any of their kicking opportunities missing out on
16 points!
Our Under 85s continued with their Championship and Plate rounds. The Pythons won a tight tussle
against Teachers Eastern 10-0 and the Rattlers picked up their first win of the Championship 22-5 over
Suburbs. While the Cobras lost a heartbreaker right on full time when they conceded a last second
penalty against Ardmore Marist losing 23-22.
Finally the Presidents had their own “Battle of the East” match against East Tamaki and they too came
out winners with a big 60-10 win! General Manager Steve Hackett picked up the player of the day
award even though he turned up without boots, shorts or socks!!
