Protection and equality before the Lebanese law
‫اﻟﺤﻤﺎﻳﺔ واﻟﻤﺴﺎواة أﻣﺎم اﻟﻘﺎﻧﻮن‬
There is a law in Lebanon punishing the crime of trafficking in persons
Law 164/2011
A special article considers trafficking in persons a crime by itself that is penalized by 5 to
10 years imprisonment,
• It defines the crime of trafficking in persons
• It exempts the victim from punishment for actions she was forced to commit by an
organized criminal group
• It sets adequate measures to protect the victims and the witnesses
• It grants the legal system the jurisdiction to take special measures in order to protect
the victims of trafficking in persons and witnesses such as:
•
•
•
•
•
Permitting the victim to stay in Lebanon during the investigations,
Maintaining the victim’s identity confidential whenever necessary,
In certain cases, enclosing the identity of the plaintiff in a special investigation
report,
Punishing anyone who discloses information about legal proceedings undertaken to protect the victim or the witness
It exempts any person, from any legal pursuit, who informs the administrative
or juridical authorities of the listed crimes in this law and provides information
that help in revealing the crime before it happened or in arresting the criminals
or partners or any persons involved or the instigators to commit such a crime.
