Item 199-01 – Sacket’s Harbour cross-lake service – 1850, stampless folded cover from Kingston UC to New York.
Rated 20c US collect. Mail posted at border exchange offices (Kingston included) did not require BNA postage. The
usual exchange between Kingston and Cape Vincent NT did not occur. The letter was sent by steamer to the Sacket’s
Harbor NY exchange office before being forwarded to New York. This was a very short-lived service and is quite scarce.

Item 199-02 – Magog LC oily markings – 1857, stampless cover from Magog LC to Stanstead with oily markings. Paid 3.
Receiver b/s. $45.00
Item 199-03 – St. John River steamer – c1820, stampless folded cover likely originating in New Brunswick to
Fredericton NB and carried on the St. John River. Endorsed ‘’Per Steam Boat’’. $150.00

Item 199-04 – Two different exchange routes – 1857-8, 2 diff Sandusky US stampless covers to Kingsville CW. The
covers were sent via two different exchange routes from the same origination and destination offices. The 1st via
Queenston and Amherstburg, the 2nd via Windsor and Amherstburg. A great pair. $200.00

Item 199-05 – Bath Upper Canada (L&A) – 1822, stampless folded letter from John Dean of Bath UC (Grand Secretary
of the Prov Grand Lodge) to Montreal. Rated 2N4 (double). The letter is about a payment of monies due. He enclosed
20 pounds in cash and notes; he has no money to pay postage etc. Bio accompanies. Tear. $85.00

Item 199-06 – Hand carried to Belleville UC – 1842, stampless 3-pages folded letter from Montreal hand carried to
Belleville. ‘’The following lines I shall place in the Post Office in the event of my being unfortunate in not seeing you.
There have been many failures here since we last met’’. Failed merchants due to the recession listed. ‘’The last English
mail was lost crossing the river from Quebec. The canoe was crushed by the ice and the bag containing the letters went
down among the fishes. Instead of the English mail, I should say the mail going from here to England. etc etc $75.00

Item 199-07 – Postal Guide rules 28 – 1908, 1c Edward tied by grid cancel from Mount Joy Ont (York) on die cut Teddy
Bear postcard to Green River Ont. The Postal Guide rules 28 states: ‘’nor may it be cut or altered in any way’’, this card
allowed through and it is one of very few die cut postcards that exist. Rare. $150.00

Item 199-11 – Allworth’s condensed milk – 1899, 2c Provisional on Aylmer Ont G.C. Allworth Co. manufacturers of
condenses milk (later Carnation) advertising cover. Mailed from Norwich. George C Allworth of Detroit started this
condensed milk factory in 1893. He was a pioneer in Canada in this industry. The company was purchased by Aylmer
Canners around 1900 and in 1916 by Carnation. Write-up accompanies. $75.00

live stock commission dealer advertising cover paying 2c drop letter rate. $25.00
Item 199-13 – Toronto retailer of pianos – 1922, 3c Admiral tied by Toronto CNE slogan cancel on Gourlay, Winter &
Leeming advertising cover to Smithville (cover reduced at right). GW&L was a Toronto retailer of pianos, player pianos,
organs, music boxes, phonographs and manufacturer of pianos. After Gourlay retirement in 1923 the firm was forced
into receivership. In 1924 Sherlock-Manning purchased its name, stock, patterns, and scales. $25.00

Item 199-18 – Clevelands House (Muskoka) – 1924, 1c Admiral (3) tied by grid cancel from Minett Ont on Clevelands
House c/c cover to Toronto. This hotel could accommodate up to 170 guests and was one of the largest grand hotels in
the Muskokas. In 1928, the Minett’s added a dance hall along the shore. In July of that year, a record number of more
than 1,100 people crowded into the pavilion to take turn on the dance floor. The hotel is still on operation today. Two
