Well, we are coming to the
end of another river
fishing season and from
st
the 1 May the rules
changed to one fish over
50cm until the closure in
June.
Trout started to head into
the Thredbo early again
this year but with low clear
water they were very
spooky and hard to catch
unless there was a cold
front happening and a little
rise in water levels.
Give us some decent rain
and I am sure there will be
a huge run of very healthy
fish.
On the lake the fishing
remained very good for
the shore based anglers
with plenty of big healthy
fish caught over the last
month.
Weather was good in
April, which went against
the predictions which were
for a very wet month. The
lake level has been mostly
steady maybe coming up
a couple of inches.

Autumn sunrises are
spectacular.
This winter the fishing in
Lake
Jindabyne
will
continue to be fantastic
especially
from
the
shoreline. At the moment
the lake is still rising very
slowly and this will keep
the trout around the edges
so long as there is no
sudden drop in levels, but
with expected rain and
plenty of snow that should
not happen. So if you are
coming down to the
mountains for some snow
play then you have better
not forget that fishing rod,
although don’t forget if
there is no room in your
car we can always hire
you a rod from $15 a day.
Personally I am looking
forward to another holiday
(fishing of course) and
next month after the June
long weekend I am off to
Sussex Inlet once again
with the ‘Kill and Grill
Fishing Team’.
Should be fun.
Guiding over winter this
year will be restricted as I
will be sharing shop duties
with Nathan so it looks like
3 days a week in the shop
at this stage and that time
will be spent attempting to
finalise another book or at
least write an article or
two which these days I
have very little time to do.
I also intend to spend a
little time fishing at
Merimbula and Pambula.
July I am in Adelaide for a
RecFishing
Research
meeting. August on the
Gold
Coast
for
the
National
Recreational
Fishing Conference

the Fishing Trades Show
just after the Conference.
So put in a little snow
skiing to get me fit for next
summer and I am going to
be very busy, over the
winter so if you are
looking at a fishing tour
over the next few months

Illegal Angler Crackdown.
A recent crackdown on illegal fishing in
the Snowy Mountains has netted a
penalty notice for 20 anglers.
Fisheries officers approached more than
380 fishers around Lake Jindabyne, Lake
Eucumbene and the High Country river
system.
Fines were issues for offences ranging
from keeping prohibited-sized fish,
leaving lines unattended and fishing
without a licence. Supervising Fisheries
Officer Peter Tilbrook says that overall
though, the majority of people are doing
the right thing.

newsletter dedicated to the story of its
historic clubhouse, Bidgee Lodge.
Located
on
the
banks
of
the
Murrumbidgee River near Cooma, Bidgee
Lodge was first moved to the site in 1967.
The special edition newsletter covers the
long history of the Lodge at its earlier
locations, its acquisition and relocation
and the establishment of the reserve that
the Lodge sits on, which is managed by a

Brinsley.
Bill Brinsley joined the Fisheries
Branch of the Chief Secretary’s
Department in 1958 as an
Inspector of Fisheries and was
assigned to patrolling inland
waters, principally in the high
country and western parts of the
State. He had a number of roles
before becoming Chief Inspector
in 1985, relieving on several
occasions as Deputy Chief of the
Division of Fisheries and before
his retirement in 1990 he was
promoted to Special Duties Officer
engaged in a review of fisheries
legislation.
The Speckled Success is the story
of the introduction of trout into
New South Wales, tracing the
early introduction, acclimatisation
and breeding, management and
regulation, and the organisations
and people behind the remarkable
success of the trout fishery.

What a great weekend the weather
was great although the usual May
cold mornings did make things
chilly.
Fishing was OK although some of
the boats struggled to catch fish,
and no one managed a competition
legal, 35cm Atlantic salmon or
brook trout but we had a lot of fun
and we had a great bunch of
people attending.

meeting at my shop on
Friday lunchtime when we
all head over for a stop
and warm up fish on the
Swampy River.
From there we head to
Queens Cottage and settle
in and then have dinner.
Next morning we head off
for a days fishing before
returning again to Queens
Cottage for a dip in the 30
degree Celsius plunge
pool or if you wish just a
relax and a drink.
After dinner it’s an early
night (for some) before a
Sunday on different water
for a different experience.
Monday morning you get
to have a sleep in before
heading off home.
