History of Neponset Valley
Transportation Management Association
 Organized by TransAction Associates in 1995 to mitigate traffic
and connect employees to/from Quincy Adams MBTA station and
Dan Road, Canton
 Three Canton Commerce Center employers provided matching
funds for successful CMAQ grant application to start the first
Railink Shuttle
 A partnership grew between communities and businesses in
Norwood, Westwood, Canton, Dedham.
 Goal was to work together on the transportation issues in the area
 Since then the TMA has expanded services and obtained grants to
start two other Railink shuttles—one of which has remained and
has been privately funded for six years

owners, and municipalities who join together to reduce
traffic congestion, air pollution, and improve transportation
options in a defined region.

 Encourages sustainable, cost-effective transportation

 Partnering with an effective advocacy group –
particularly through groups such as MassBike and
MassCommute (statewide TMA Council)

Major Construction Projects in the TMA Region
Canton/Dedham/Norwood/Westwood: I-95/I-93 Interchange
Phase 1: Construction begins Fall 2014
 Improvements to the I-95 southbound Blue Hills Drive off ramp to University Ave in Dedham
/Westwood
 Reconstruction of the University Avenue/Canton Street intersection in Norwood/Westwood
Phase 2: Dedham Street – Canton/Norwood/Westwood
 Construction of an off-ramp from I-95 northbound to Dedham Street
 Widen Dedham Street from two to four lanes; widen the bridges over AMTRAK and the Neponset River;
and replace the I-95 bridge. Signals are to be installed at the two I-95 ramps and at Shawmut Road
Phase 3: I-95/I-93 Interchange – Canton/Dedham/Norwood/Westwood
 Reconfigure existing I-95 northbound loop ramp with a two lane, direct connect flyover ramp
 Realigned and improved, high speed, two-lane, direct connection between I-93 southbound and I-95
southbound
 A new exit ramp from I-93 southbound to University Avenue
 Construction of a new entrance ramp from University Avenue to I-93 northbound, including the
discontinued use of the Green Lodge Street west of Elm Street
 A two-mile section of I-95 southbound from Route 128 to Neponset Street will be widened to four lanes
 A one-mile section of I-95 northbound from Dedham Street to Route 128 will be widened to four lanes
 The abandoned I-95 stub area, located north of the interchange will be removed and the area will be
restored as parkland and returned to the DCR
