H THE FIRST HINCKLEY I NC K L E Y P O W E R was a powerboat, built to survive the relent- less pounding dished out by Down East fishing and lobstering. Launched onto the waters of Southwest Harbor, Maine in 1928, it started a tradition that has lasted more than 85 years. Still built in Maine, each new Hinckley, be it a Sou’wester® sailboat or Talaria® powerboat, owes its strength and stamina to this legacy. Yet a new Hinckley is, without question, a 21st Century vessel. Our DualGuard® hulls, waterjet propulsion and patented JetStick® steering controls have radically advanced sea-going safety, performance and pleasure. These innovations have made the Hinckley collection of semicustom pleasure yachts without peer in the yachting world. I N T H E E I G H T D E C A D E S since “The Yard” was founded, the Hinckley name has come to represent the continual advancement of nautical design and manufacturing. Each new yacht to emerge from our state-ofthe-art facilities in Maine carries with it the Hinckley symbol, Talaria, derived from the wings adorning the ankles of the Roman god, Mercury — a testament to the company’s swift pursuit of superior ideas. 1998 2004 2007 2010 2012 Hinckley introduces The launch of the T55 – Hinckley adds two more Hinckley adds an JetStick, a revolutionary hailed as “the yacht of a locations to its existing joystick-control steering lifetime” – is met with network of full service system, and pioneers more Hinckley firsts: a yacht yards now totaling A growth investment in Hinckley is made by Scout Partners, a partnership between David Howe and Peterson Capital LLC, created to work with American companies that have shown significant potential for long-term success. J et drives, a JetStick, Kevlar, carbon-fiber and resin-infusion: these are the ingredients that — painstakingly engineered by Hinckley — help produce a level of performance few thought possible in a powerboat. Consider the remarks of Motorboating & Sailing after a spin in a Talaria 44: “Unprecedented performance...an acrobat...makes a U-turn at wide-open throttle in incredibly tight fashion, without a trace of cavitation.” DESIGNED AROUND THE PROPULSION SYSTEM. How Hinckley achieved this new level of performance is simple, yet telling. Unlike other builders who’ve taken conventional boats and added jet drives, Hinckley initiated its design around the propulsion system. By carefully placing as much weight as possible amidships, the result is a brilliantly balanced boat. Attitude on plane is level, keeping the jets in the water in tight turns. The effort required to spin the boat on its axis is minimal — two turns of the wheel, a quarter twist of the knob. “If this sounds like fun,” noted Motorboating & Sailing, “ it is.” P E R F O R M A N C E that’s measured not merely by how fast you travel, but how effortlessly. B elow the waterline, a Hinckley’s draft is not much more than that of the average champagne bottle: about 35 inches for a Talaria 55, a mere 25 inches for the Picnic Boat. So, unlike a typical prop-driven boat, a Hinckley can take you places left unexplored by other yachtsmen. Secluded bays. Hidden coves. Pristine beaches.. DESIGNED TO INSTILL QUIET CONFIDENCE. Such remote areas often call for deft maneuvering in tight quarters. Fear not: With our innovative JetStick integrated steering control, you can command the helm with surgical accuracy and intuitive simplicity. Using the unique steering capabilities of a water jet, the JetStick control system lets you operate in three modes: Docking Mode, for slow-speed or lateral maneuvers; Power Steer Mode, which minimizes the need for steering inputs underway; and Helm Mode, a combination of conventional use of the steering wheel and use of the JetStick as a forward/reverse throttle and bow thruster control. S H A L L O W D R A F T, exploring secluded waters. F or two full years, the hull of the Picnic Boat was tested in locations like the waters off Bass Harbor Bar, where northeasterly winds can make for some very rough going. The punishing sea trials proved beyond any doubt the toughness, durability and staunch resiliency of our innovative DualGuard composite hulls. D E S I G N E D T O M A X I M I Z E S T R E N G T H , S T I F F N E S S A N D I M PA C T R E S I S TA N C E . DualGuard is an outer skin of bulletproof Kevlar and E-glass, high performance foam coring, and an inner skin of super-stiff carbon fiber all fused using our patented resin transfer molding process. A vacuum is applied to pull a precise measure of vinylester resin into a dry lay-up. The result is a true, one-piece hull resilient enough to stop a bullet at close range. Yet, it’s up to 14 percent lighter than traditional wet lay-up hulls—a weight savings that translates into nimble performance and reduced fuel consumption. S T R E N G T H tested in the teeth of nor’easters. S ome of the first Hinckley yachts ever built are still giving their owners over a half century of service – the brightwork, cabinetry and seaworthiness well intact. It’s a standard that no one associated with Hinckley has dared to diminish. A standard recently described by a respected yachting journal as “flawlessly varnished splendor.” D E S I G N E D T O C E L E B R AT E P E R F E C T I O N . A Hinckley’s cherry, teak, holly and mahogany are hand-selected from the same groves to perfectly match grain, texture and warmth of color. Joinery may be a lost art elsewhere: it is thriving in Southwest Harbor, Maine. And unlike most boat builders, much of the hardware is ours, made of 316L stainless steel and shaped to complement the unique lines of our boats. Bow chocks on the Picnic Boat, for example, are specifically designed to fit the continuous taper of the rail, an attention to detail found nowhere else, but appreciated by a discerning few. C R A F T S M A N S H I P that can stand the test of time. T 29C T A L A R I A 2 9 C . The T29C is an exquisite center-console yacht that distills Hinckley engineering to its essence: an elegant Bruce King design of shallow draft and DualGuard construction, powered by a Volvo 370-hp diesel and Hamilton jet, all controlled by our patented JetStick. Seating eight, the T29 cruises comfortably, posts a top speed of 33 knots, and offers all the amenities for a perfect day on the water. A N E W I N T E R P R E TAT I O N Hinckley’s first center console, T29C is the result of four years of careful development. Prototype 28s of various layouts were tested in the Chesapeake, in Florida and in Southwest Harbor, Maine, and countless design ideas incorporated before she was approved for production. The result is a versatile center-console vessel worthy of the Hinckley tradition and deserving of its place in the Talaria line. Like all our jetboats, the T29C was engineered, from the drawing board up, to take full advantage of the benefits of a jet drive. Her lightweight yet strong DualGuard hull is propelled by the quiet force of a 370 horsepower Volvo diesel. Nothing else on the water so deftly merges the style and grace of yesterday with the technology of tomorrow, prompting Yachting magazine to proclaim, “The T29R may be the most handsome small open boat created in the past 50 years.” And while her beauty may take you back, many of the T29R’s delights lie beneath the skin in the form of a powerful 370 hp engine and stiff carbon T29R S P E C I F I C AT I O N S fiber/ Kevlar composite hull that tracks laser-true at speed. Fast, fun-loving and every inch a Hinckley. In the smooth acceleration of her next generation twin jets you feel the heart-pumping innovation of Hinckley design and engineering at its very best. This Hinckley flies—up to 32 knots. And she goes wherever you please with just 22 inches of draft. Make a date with the T34. You’ll need the rods for early morning angling, the tube for an afternoon of thrilling the kids. At sunset, she is the perfect platform for a harbor cruise. Jump on and go! S I M P LY U N C O M P L I C AT E D . When we developed the Hinckley T34, we listened. We heard boaters say that time is the greatest luxury. That boats don’t have to be grand to be great. And that a system that goes unused is a system that should stay ashore. With that, we incorporated all the technical advances that can make a boat perform more quickly, safely and quietly than ever before and equipped her with just the things you need to spend the perfect day on the water. To take you where you want to go there is power. It comes in the form of twin Yanmar 260 hp common rail diesels, class-leading marine diesels that benefit from a collaboration between Yanmar and famed automaker BMW. Smooth and clean-running we captured them below deck in a soundproofed compartment so that even when you’re running them wide open, you can share in the conversation. If it turns out that your perfect day turns into night, accommodations for two await in the cabin, along with a head with shower, and a galley just right for light fare or the mixology of a nightcap. The Hand of Hinckley. Wet suits on the Sunbrella? We planned it that way. Rodholders? Of course. And the pride of handcraftsmanship: a teak eyebrow around the cabin, a teak toe rail to illustrate the sheer, a bit of brightwork to articulate the signature curve from rooftop to transom. Just enough to say a perfect day on the water isn’t all science, part of it is art. Making it all easy is the job of our patented JetStick controls, a chip-regulated system commanding buckets, thruster and throttle allowing you to bring the boat up to the dock, back straight off of it, or take the lateral approach, without a bit of fuss. Maine wisdom holds that cockpits should be close to the water and coamings low so traps can be easily hauled. We agree, if only for that closeness to the water and the natural way in which every Hinckley blends into its environment. There is no better place than the aft-facing seats where you can almost skim the water with your hand as you watch the coastline go by. Under the roof, relax on curved settees or sporty helm and navigator seats. No matter which you choose, the view is 360 degrees and a cupholder is never far. TWIN ENGINES, SINGULAR DESIGN The success of our Picnic Boat and Talaria 44 served as inspiration for the design of the T40 Jet. Combining the Picnic Boat’s agility and shallow draft with the twinengine security and spacious accommodations of the 44, the T40 is, in the words of one yachting journalist, “the best powerboat design I have ever seen on paper.” Twin 480-hp jet drives and a weight of just 26,000 lbs. make the T40 a performance yacht: “She handles like a sports car, turns on a dime and accelerates without significant bow rise,” notes Power & Motoryacht. You’ve come to expect a lot from Hinckley and our newest cruiser delivers. Powerful performance, precision control and the hospitable arrangements that make her a natural entertainer. Talaria 48 owners will enjoy reduced cabin sound levels and the enhanced visibility that the forward positioning of the cabin and helm station affords. PERFECT FOR A CRUISING COUPLE AND THEN SOME. Two fingers on the controls bring her laterally to a dock, inch her forward to pick up a mooring or effortlessly outmaneuver the Gulf Stream. And jet propulsion means smooth running without the worry of fouling a prop or shaft because the bottom of this yacht is free of such appendages. The powerful hull shape of the Talaria provides a platform for fast and stable performance in all seas. And when you’ve enjoyed her 30-knots of cruising speed and it’s time to relax, your choices are many because with just 32 inches of draft, the Talaria 48 tucks into a quiet cove, or anchors just off the beach. You’ll enjoy their company in a salon and cockpit that entertain graciously with seating arrangements and ergonomics that make the boat feel natural, warm and inviting. Lower the large, electric windows and enjoy the open air feel. And bright beneath the big windshield is a mezzanine galley capable of keeping the whole group satisfied.
