Angelina Photographic Association Volume 32 | Issue 2 February 2011 January Minutes – 1/20/11 President, Jodie Bailey, called meeting to order. Welcome new member, Inge Geye! Another welcome to Richard Faviell’s son, Chris Faviell, who was a guest at the meeting. Walter Streich gave treasury report GSCCC – Convention April 14-16 in Oklahoma City Day in the Life of Angelina County books for sale at MET gift shop – prices: $5 for APA members, $10 for public, $20 for books containing all photographer’s signatures – profits split with MET Earlon Williams made a proposal to a buy laptop for APA – motion passed – he will research & report back with options at next meeting, limit $500. Laptop will be available for check out from museum for 24 hours, to be used for presentations. Michelle Williams will create a member handbook with pictures, bio, & contact information. Details on where/when to send info will be provided at a later date. Michelle also had members complete a survey about future programs/competitions. Campbell Cox shared that NANPA (North American Nature Photographers Association) will be having an event in McAllen, TX March 9-12 with workshops on the 8th, 9th, & 13th. The website is www.nanpa.org and contains schedule & registration information. (Thank you, Zelma Lias, for sending me the link!) Dennis Rankin announced theme for the March competition – The Color Green Members voted for winners of Toy Competition – Meeting Adjourned, Nicole Rodgers APA Excursion – 2/12/11 Homestead Heritage Day at Jesse Jones Park & Nature Center in Humble, TX Volunteers & re-enactors demonstrate settler life in Stephen F. Austin colony during the 1820-1830’s. Demonstrations & period re-enactments throughout the day in and around the log cabins, bread oven, smoke house root cellar, kitchen garden, chicken house, tool shed, corn crib, pump well, pig pen, out-house, grape arbor, barn, wood working shop, & blacksmith shop. Good opportunity to photograph still life items, people in custom, animals, nature, etc…. Log on the Jesse Jones website to learn about their Photo Contest. This excursion could be used to take photos for their photo contest. DEPARTURE: Meet at the south side of K-mart parking lot for 6:45a.m. departure to caravan to Jesse Jones. For those who cannot depart at 6:45…please come later. This is an all day event….come & go as needed. It is recommended to bring a sack lunch so we can take a lunch break at Jesse Jones sometime around the noon hour. Photographer’s ID #, number of photo and title of photograph must be legibly written on the back of each print. (NO NAME on photo) Number each entry from “1” to “5” and place entries in an envelope labeled as follows (Please use same title on envelope & photo): Name, address, telephone number, Photographer’s ID # 1. “Title of photo” & Price or NFS (Not for sale) 2. “Title of photo” & Price or NFS 3. “Title of photo” & Price or NFS 4. “Title of photo” & Price or NFS 5. “Title of photo” & Price or NFS Framing Requirements Inside frame dimensions must be 16 x 20 White Mat Black Frame Photo Dimensions (nothing smaller than 8 x 10, ex. 11 x 14, 12 x 16, etc.) Finished prints must be framed in 16” x 20” black frames, white mats, with wire hangers. (Please, no saw tooth hangers.) Draw an arrow pointing in the direction to hang picture so there is no confusion. (ex. Top: ↑) The following information must be written on the back of each framed print: Photographer’s Name Name of Photograph Photographer’s address Photographer’s phone number NOT FOR SALE or Price $$$ Pricing Artwork: Remember, 20% of sales price goes to the museum, so price photograph accordingly. If a price is not on the picture, then it will be assumed that it is not for sale.
