It must be filled out correctly before any programming or installation occurs. 1 The GXR2 Installation Worksheet, included with the IntelliControl ® ICS Modular Multizone Receiver (and available for download at www.IntelliControl.com), provides spaces for placing the MAC ID stickers next to the name of the zone they are located in. Take special care in associating the correct MAC ID sticker with the right zone on the worksheet. Remove the MAC ID sticker from master iRemote base(s) and place them in the boxes on the worksheet. Two MAC ID stickers are found on the iRemote Charging Base. Remove one of the stickers and place in the area under the box marked “1” box for the “iRemote Master Charging Base” on the GXR2 Installation Worksheet. DO NOT REMOVE BOTH STICKERS FROM THE iREMOTE BASE. It may become necessary to reference the iRemote charging base sticker for troubleshooting 2 Name each zone and assign the user interfaces Remove the MAC ID sticker from each user interface and place next to the zone to which it has been assigned. ZigBee radios operate in the 2.4GHz band. Both the iRemote handheld remote and the charging base have radios based on ZigBee Technology. Each radio has an operational Radio-Frequency (RF) range as depicted in below. The operational RF range can vary depending on the home’s construction and RF environment. When your iRemote is out of range, the LCD will display the message; “Searching for Network.” Once you have come back into range, the LCD will display the message, “Connecting to Network.” When network connection is complete, the LCD will display the correct “Now Playing” screen and cor- responding metadata. When more than one iRemote is installed into a home, the operational RF ranges of the additional iRemote Bases combine to form a Mesh Network. This mesh network is the sum of all the operational ranges and greatly expands the RF coverage area. In some cases it may be necessary to place an additional iRemote Charger Base in a different area of the house to extend the RF coverage area. It may also be necessary to place an iRemote Charger Base on each floor of a multi-story structure, to extend the RF coverage area from one floor to another. iRemote Charger bases are sold separately for this purpose. Once connected, designate this base the “Master Charging Base” (See below). All other iRemote Charging Bases in the system can be plugged into any unswitched AC outlet to provide wireless two-way radio connectivity and iRemote battery charging. GXR2 (CONTINUED) CONNECTING THE REMAINING IREMOTE’S FOR NETWORK CONFIGURATION All remaining iRemote’s must be placed in a charging base and temporarily connected to the IntelliControl ICS Modular MultiZone Receiver for network configuration. This ensures that both the handheld remote controls and the charging bases will be configured correctly (See below). Before proceeding, make sure you have decided which iRemote charging base will be assigned as the Master Charging Base. Place the MAC ID sticker on the GXR2 Installation worksheet. During iRemote Network configuration, each iRemote is assigned an Network ID #, an RF Channel # and a unique Unit ID #. Up to fifteen iRemote’s can exist on one RF Network. Currently, two networks are provided to allow a total of thirty iRemotes to communicate simultaneously, in a single system. An advantage of utilizing this methodology is that if your neighbor owns an IntelliControl ICS system with iRemote’s, their iRemotes will not interfere with the iRemotes from your system. (CONTINUED) Configuring the iRemote ZigBee RF Network is accomplished during system configuration using the IntelliFile ®3 software after all the components are connected and powered up (see below). CONFIGURING THE iREMOTE NETWORK Network ID #(1-15): Selects unique Network ID number for the first fifteen iRemotes in a system. RF Channel #(1-15): Selects a specific RF frequency for communication to the system on the selected Network. Unit ID #(1-15): Selects a unique ID Number for each iRemote in the Network so multiple iRemotes can simultaneously communicate to the system without any interference. When installing the GXR2 in a cabinet, be sure that the cabinet’s rear is open to receive fresh air in order to provide proper cooling. If the cabinet’s design does not accommodate an open rear, install two small “boxer fans” to provide continuous airflow into and out of the cabinet. Place the GXR2 so it has at least seven inches of free air space above it. If the receiver is located on a carpeted surface, place a board under the receiver’s feet. Do not block the ventilation holes on the top and bottom of the GXR2. CAUTION! When using low-impedance speaker loads (less than 8 ohms Nominal) you must use boxer fans as shown. Highlight [Display Settings] and press the SELECT Key to proceed. iREMOTE® MAC ID# Press the Cursor Key to move from [Backlight On] time to [Battery Save]. System Settings Display Settings Turn On Volume Page Back Page Display Settings Contrast 65% Backlight on: 30 sec. Select to confirm MAC ID# and Firmware version, (Touch Screen, Display Keypad or iRemote) MAX VOLUME Adjust maximum zone volume and zone Page volume. Maximum zone volume can help prevent damage to the speakers and amplifier by setting a maximum output level well under the speakers power handling capability and clipping level. Page volume sets an undistorted paging level. Press the select button to save the settings. These settings are also adjustable with the IntelliFile 3 software. The iRemote can also be used to adjust these levels when a zone has the Single keypad. SOURCE LEVEL SETTINGS Use the Cursor or Key to set the length of time until the iREMOTE goes into deep sleep mode. Battery save after 5 minutes Back NOTE: Battery Save mode disconnects the iREMOTE from the GXR2 network and doesn’t display metadata until picked up. NETWORK CONFIGURATION Settings to adjust the RF and Network channel for the iRemote handheld unit. The base must be programmed using the IntelliFile 3 software and a PC. POWER DOWN Setting allows for a software power switch to turn on/off the iRemote handheld unit. Adjust GXR2 input levels to balance different source audio output levels. This procedure requires that all sources be on and playing. Radio stations should be tuned to the same channel and Legacy Sources should be playing program material with similar content. Using similar or identical program material helps balance the actual differences in output levels and not differences in program material. With all sources playing, cycle through the inputs to get a reference for which sources are ‘louder’ and ‘softer’ than others.
