June Rin - Gonzague Zurstrassen
June Rin
singapore
style powerhouse june rin leads
a demanding lifestyle. She is a neuroanaesthesia consultant and director,
the past president of the Association of
Women Doctors (Singapore), a mother
of two, and a most-invited guest on the
social circuit – diverse roles that Rin
takes on with grace, finesse and a cool
attitude. Her style is best described
as “haute speed”: when out of her
doctor’s scrubs, Rin zips around in
relaxed but masterfully constructed
ensembles by Haider Ackermann
and Céline, and says an Alexander
McQueen frock and 40 minutes are
all she needs to get red carpet-ready
for a soiree – even straight after an 18hour shift. Rin has a serious penchant
for dresses, not only for the ease of a
one-piece outfit, but also for the art of
how the cut, fabric and craftsmanship
of a piece make a simple silhouette
stand out. Rin’s eye for edgy styles
is epitomised by her penchant for
accessories, such as vertigo-inducing
heels and fiercely embellished clutches.
She stays true to a sleek aesthetic with
a punch that matches her sharp yet
humble disposition. It is a minimalism
that speaks volumes.

most distinguished news anchors at

focus on raising her children and

passionate about music and art. Since

even translated a number of children’s
books. A woman of many talents,
Wang also runs a marketing company
on the side. Accomplishments aside,
Wang believes in spending time on
what matters most: her values, family
and spirituality.

Marion Caunter

television darling marion caunter is warm, friendly and even more
striking in person. Her love story with fashion began as a toddler, when she would
“totter around in baby heels.” Growing up, this stunning beauty tried every fashion
fad and trendy hairstyle – even red and blue streaks in her hair. “I’m glad I have all
this quirky stuff out of my system. That’s what I love about fashion anyway – you
wouldn’t know how to perfect it without making mistakes along the way,” she says.
A fan of structured dresses, Caunter believes in investing in timeless pieces such as
those designed by Alexander McQueen, as she reckons these are dresses that her
daughter Leia, or anyone else, could wear 20 years from now. As a public figure,
Caunter acknowledges the importance of dolling up before she walks out the door –
even while juggling baby duties at home. “I feel like I am letting people down if I go
out without at least making an effort,” says Caunter, who reveals she does her own
hair and make-up most of the time for events. In 2010, she was accepted to study at
the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in the US, but she put this on hold
upon receiving a job offer to host E! News Asia. Recently, together with her husband
SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin, they founded Los Angeles-based fashion label Marna
Ro, which is now available at select department stores around the world.
Jessie Setiono

indonesian fashion icon jessie setiono
is one busy lady. In addition to juggling
her career as a model and her role
as a dedicated wife, she is currently
completing her master’s degree in Trade,
Investment and Competition Law at the
University of Pelita Harapan in Jakarta.
Always pushing herself beyond her own
limits, Setiono is a self-confessed risktaker who aspires to be a lawyer. “I hope
I can complete my studies by 2013. I’m
always intrigued by the challenges in the
legal world. It’s definitely not a sudden
career change – because it’s always been
part of my long-term plan,” adds Setiono,
who is married to successful restaurateur
Christian Rijanto. Setiono, who believes
that fashion has to be “less mainstream
and yet fashionably comfortable,”
describes her style as edgy, dark, gothluxe and rock-glam. “To me, fashion is a
way of expressing myself, my mood and
my character.” And what does this busy
bee occupy herself with in her limited
free time? “I enjoy pampering myself with
good food, good wine and good company.
Those are all the greatest things in life,
and they make me very happy.”

Naphaporn
Bodiratnangkura Narongdej
thailand
it’s not difficult to see why naphaporn
Bodiratnangkura Narongdej has been
nicknamed the Paris Hilton of Thailand. This
stylish lady is the managing director of Nai
Lert Park Hotel, and owner of the Swissotel
Nai Lert Park in Bangkok and Nai Lert Park
Hua Hin, a new project where she is turning
her grandmother’s colonial home into a beach
club with exclusive villas for sale. And with
such savvy business acumen comes a style
that is uniquely hers. She is not influenced by
any specific role model, and knows what suits
her best. She likes to combine designer labels
with high-street brands to create her own
look, focusing on the cut, structure and fabric.
“I wear the clothes; I don’t let the clothes
wear me,” says this assertive young lady. “I
have no regrets about what I choose to wear,
because each outfit represents a stage in my
life and how I felt then.” This newlywed’s
favourite international designers include
Hervé Léger, Victoria Beckham and Roland
Mouret, while she also rates Thai designers
Vatanika, Asava and Vickteerut.

Nanette Medved-Po
philippines
she was one of the biggest stars
in Philippine cinema. Now, this wife and
mother of two has found a new calling in
life, that of being the founder of Hope in
a Bottle, a project seeking the creation
of more public school classrooms. Her
time away from the camera, however,
has not diminished her aura of glamour.
Medved-Po exudes an effortless elegance
and a refreshing simplicity that can be
credited to her preference for comfort,
as evidenced by her favourite shoes: Gap
city flats. She considers her husband her
best accessory, and has no style icons
or stylist, not even a favourite designer.
“I normally make a decision based on a
particular piece rather than who designed
it,” she says. Not what you’d expect
from someone who consistently cuts a
stylish figure, but that could be what
sets her apart from everyone else. Unlike
many who depend on trends to inform
them on how to dress, Medved-Po has
developed her own style. “I think I have
been fortunate that, in the past, I was
in a profession that allowed me to try
on many different style personalities. It
was a safe environment to experiment
in. And thank goodness for that, as there
were some real disasters! But as a result
of travelling that spectrum, I think, I was
allowed to ‘discover’ a happy balance.”
Li Xiaoling
china
her beauty and artistic talent make
Li Xiaoling a popular member of Beijing
society. Originally from the province
of Yunnan, where she discovered her
passion for painting, Li has since made
Beijing her home. The winner of the first
China Advertising Model Competition,
Li was a natural in front of the camera,
dazzling all with her poise and grace.
With endearing humility, she credited
her great shots to the photographer’s
skills. “Frank Hoefsmit was such an
expert that he inspired me to be at ease
in front of the camera,” she says. The
affable style icon immediately struck a
friendship with the other ladies. “They
are all so beautiful and I learned a lot
from them,” says Li, likening the sojourn
to “a bountiful harvest of unforgettable
learning experiences.”

Reina Chau
hong kong
she may not have been able to
attend the shoot in Thailand due
to her hectic schedule, but whether
posing on a yacht that’s whipping its
way around the harbour or graciously
accepting her second award as Most
Stylish Lady at the Hong Kong Tatler
Ball, Reina Chau does everything in
her own inimitable style. A familiar
face in Hong Kong’s most exclusive
social circles, Reina is best known
for her elegant but eclectic fashion
choices. Married to bon vivant Kevin
Chau, Reina joined forces with
fashion designer Bonita Cheung
to co-found Ni-Chi, which she

says creates her own unique brand
of day-to-night clothes. The San
Francisco-born jetsetter effortlessly
mixes high street and high jewellery,
listing her all-time favourites as Rick
Owens, Chanel, Junya Watanabe and
Current/Elliott jeans. She adds that
no wardrobe is complete without
a nice white shirt and a handful of
T-shirts from Muji, Gap and Uniqlo.
A believer in having a different style
every day, Reina’s advice when it
comes to dressing is simple: “Don’t
think too hard about it. I don’t have
any special style secrets – I just don’t
like to be bored.”
