The Akron UMADAOP, Inc. has rapidly established itself as a premier, respected, and trusted conference that provides diverse educational curriculum on the prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery management of addictions that affect various genders, generations and cultures. The 2016 Conference partners with County of Summit Alcohol Drug & Mental Health Services Board, Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation, Summit County Juvenile Court and OMNOVA Foundation and will feature nationally recognized treatment providers, authors and educators presenting a wide range of timely topics in a compelling array of in-depth workshops. PURPOSE This conference provides a forum for prevention professionals, counselors, mental health professionals, coalition leaders, researchers, community leaders, administrators and federal partners to share research and other information related to best practices. The purpose of the conference is to integrate prevention, treatment and mental health services to meet the needs of all consumers. Conference presentations will address alcohol, opioid and prescription drug abuse; workforce development; gambling addiction, ethics, recovery coaching, treatment of special populations, and substance abuse prevention and collaboration within the related fields. WHO SHOULD ATTEND / BENEFITS OF ATTENDING Akron UMADAOP invites professionals from a wide range of disciplines to attend this conference including Treatment Counselors, Preventionists, Program Directors, Case Managers, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Community Individuals and Leaders, Clinical Supervisors, Juvenile and Adult Probation and Parole Officers, Policymakers, Reseachers and other Stakeholders involved in providing services related to the critical needs of consumer care. The conference goal is to assist you in understanding the environmental influences which affect our success in the areas of consumer care, substance abuse prevention and treatment, mental health and prisoner re-entry. THE CONFERENCE GOALS •To present the latest evidence relevant to the field and critically evaluate implications for consumers, preventionists, clinicians, administrators and policy makers. •To improve the collaboration between opioid treatment programs and the community partners in response to the heightened risk association with the use of opioids. •To discuss the magnitude and impact of prescription opioids on the healthcare system and opioid treatment programs. •To disseminate the importance of using recovery coaches to assist the newly recovered individuals which would provide more stability in their recovery process. •To create a user-friendly atmosphere for working with youth populations and to enhance the role of prevention care in their lives. •To provide a practical approach in assisting special populations in the areas of preventive and treatment services. CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS This conference is approved for 21 RCHs in Prevention and Treatment and we will be applying for 21 CPEs in Counseling, Social Work and Family Therapy. These credits will be awarded to each participant according to their conference attendance within 30 days of completion of the conference. Participants must complete an evaluation for each session they attend, and must sign into each session. REGISTRATION FEES Schedules and the Registration Fees are located on the Registration Form. Conference Registration includes an electronic version of presentations, conference material, and one (1) Admission to all the Conference events such as the Annual Conference Dinner. Additional tickets may be purchased at an additional cost. Single day registration will only receive tickets for the conference events taking place on that particular day, excluding the Annual Dinner. SPECIAL NEEDS Akron-UMADAOP will make every effort to accommodate persons with special needs. Please indicate on the registration form any special dietary needs. Further, anyone with any physical or sensory challenged needs requiring special accommodations, should notify the registration staff when completing the registration information form or by calling 330.379.3467. Ask for the Akron- UMADAOP Conference special rate when making reservations. This special conference rate is in effect from September 7-9. Lodging and transportation fees are not included in the Registration Fees. Special conference lodging rate of $75 includes a free breakfast (plus 6.5% sales tax & 8.5% occupancy tax), (single/double occupancy) until August 20, 2016. After August 20, 2016 reservations will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis and the special conference rate is not guaranteed. A deposit in the amount of one (1) night’s room charge including tax to guarantee a room, which will be credited to the first night for which the reservation was made, must accompany all reservations. Hotel deposits from attendees are refundable if the hotel receives notice of cancellation, and can be confirmed with a cancellation number issued by the hotel, at least 48 hours prior to the arrival date. Guest check-in time is 3:00 pm and check out is Noon. Days Inn & Suites amenities include free wireless high speed, iron, hair dryer. Non-smoking rooms available. 2 KEYNOTE SPEAKER U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Phillip Brashear, son of the late U.S. Navy Master Chief, Master Diver (Retired) Carl Brashear Phillip Brashear is the son of Carl and Junetta Brashear and was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 3, 1962, exactly 11 months to the day of our current President, Barak Obama. He is a 1980 graduate from I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Va. In Sep 1981, and began his military career by joining the Naval Reserves as a Jet Engine Mechanic at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va. Between May 1989 and April 2002 Phillip graduated from the NADEP Apprentice program, joined the Virginia Army National Guard in Richmond, was appointed a Warrant Officer Candidate and was sent to Army Flight training at Ft Rucker, Alabama, and completed Initial Rotary Wing Training and became a Warrant Officer Pilot in the Army, became a Virginia Army National Technician for the Army National Guard at the Army Aviation Support Facility and returned to civil service with the Defense Logistics Agency in Richmond, Va. In November of 2005, Phillip was deployed to Iraq with his Army National Guard unit and returned in February 2007. He retired from the Army National Guard in November 2007. In May of 2009, Phillip returned to the military by joining the Army Reserves as a Rear Detachment Commander for Bravo and Delta Companies of the 5-159th General Support Aviation Battalion located at Ft Eustis, Virginia. Phillip also served as the 5-159th GSAB as the Battalion Maintenance Officer and currently as the Battalion Public Affairs Officer. November of 2013, Phillip joined the local Civil Air Patrol unit, at the rank of Major. As a civilian, Phillip is a Weapon System Support Manager for the Air Force for the Defense Logistics Agency. Phillip is married to Sandra Brashear who is a retired (Army active duty / Army National Guard / Army Reservist) and current employee for the Virginia Department of Social Services.
