Our Camp is coeducational and open to any boy or girl who has reached their 8th birthday, but not reached their 17th birthday by the start of their week at camp. It is not necessary to be a 4-H member to attend camp. Each day at 4-H Camp Wyomoco is filled with a variety of programs and activities including camper classes, recreational activities, cabin activities, and all camp events. Special events are also planned on a weekly basis to fit the theme of the week. These events provide your child with opportunities to make new friends and develop lasting camp memories. Campers sleep in comfortable, rustic cabins. Bathroom washhouses are located within walking distance of each cabin and include toilets, sinks and private showers. There are separate villages for the boys and girls as well as our Counselors-in-Training. Campers must provide their own linens and toiletries. Please refer to the Camp Handbook for the complete list of items needed. Camp Wyomoco is located at 2780 Buffalo Road, Varysburg, NY. The camp includes over 285 acres of fields, meadows, streams, and woodlands. CAMP HOURS Arrival day and time is Sunday between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. HORSE CAMP JULY 6 - 11 Wyomoco Horse Camp is the ideal horsemanship experience for the horse enthusiast. 2014 promises to be a great year for Horse Camp. Wyomoco is proud to continue the long standing tradition of campers bringing a horse to camp but renting a horse for the week is also available. The environment at Wyomoco is safe and non-competitive. Horse Camp offers a unique hands-on program designed to strengthen horsemanship skills through morning and afternoon riding lessons, a daily lesson in horse care and daily stable chores. Wyomoco encourages any boy or girl between the ages of 10 and 16 to apply. Wyomoco respects everyone’s interests; however, Horse Camp is not for the beginner equestrian. Weeks 2 through 5 are designed for the beginner and may be a more appropriate choice. ABOUT HORSE CAMP Under the watchful eye of knowledgeable instructors and counselors, campers will practice a constant respect for the horse and an understanding of safety when working with horses. This can be a strenuous program for campers and horses so it is important to get both in shape before arriving at horse camp. We recommend that campers should ride about 1 hour a day leading up to their week at camp. During camp we ride each day for at least 2 hours in the morning and afternoon weather permitting. Each camper will assume full responsibility for their horse for the entire week. They will handle all daily stable chores including mucking, grooming, feeding, tacking and untacking. The core of riding instruction will be the balanced seat and control of the horse. Riding instruction classes are enjoyable as you participate in a variety of classes including trail obstacles, trail rides, mounted games, riding patterns, jumping, and dressage. Riding instructors develop confident riders who can communicate successfully with a willing horse. WHAT TO EXPECT FOR LESSONS 4-H Camp Wyomoco is a non-competitive learning environment. We encourage campers to have fun and discover new abilities. After a short evaluation ride, campers will be grouped according to riding ability and class preference. English and Western riding styles are offered during Horse Camp. When applying for horse camp please send a separate statement listing the experience level of the camper and whether they prefer to ride English or Western. Experience includes both formal instruction and unstructured riding time. It will help us to meet the needs of your camper if you are as specific as possible when describing horsemanship experience. RENT A HORSE FOR THE WEEK Campers who cannot bring a horse to camp may enroll in this program for an additional $150. This fee includes all feed and tack for the rented horse. The “Rent a Horse for the Week” program exists for campers who have horsemanship experience but are not bringing a horse to camp. Instructors will match the camper’s riding ability and comfort level to a horse which they will ride in lessons. Campers will also assume full responsibility for the horse’s stable chores including mucking, grooming, feeding, tacking and untacking. This program is not designed for the first time equestrian, but rather the camper who has experience and would like to further their horsemanship skills. A short riding evaluation will assist instructors to place you in a group at your ability. Although campers in this program may begin in separate classes, our goal is to move all “Rent a Horse for the Week” riders into classes as soon as possible. Enrollment in this program is limited to 15 campers, so if you are interested, it is urgent that you respond as soon as possible to apply for your place in this program. 4 ACTIVITIES FOR EVERY TASTE The following are the program choices at Camp Wyomoco AQUATICS (AQ) PERFORMING ARTS (PA) VISUAL ARTS (VA) CANOEING AND KAYAKING COMIC ARTS ARTS AND CRAFTS Wyomoco Canoe and Kayak program offers something for everyone.
