Judging from the carpet design for example, I was able to see for myself, how much commitment and love Cornelia and Michael Gabor are investing in their hotel. A design from the Step by Step collection was the central theme, of which elements and colours were modified until it was ideally suited to the Art Nouveau style, thereby giving every room its own identity. Villa Vier Jahreszeiten not only exudes charm but also has its foibles and this was something we had to admit when it came to the technicalities. There was not a single dimension that we could take as a basis for our floor plans. Instead the employees of Kunitz, the installation company, showed great commitment and measured each room by hand. The result is that the borders fit each angle perfectly. Once again, we would like to express our warmest thanks for that! I hope you will be as thrilled as I am with the Villa Vier Jahreszeiten and hope you enjoy reading this issue. Yours Sigrid Neumann, Designer at Halbmond 2 | T h e C a rpet Mag azin e 0 8 Villa Vier Jahreszeiten, Crimmitschau, Germany :: Antique furnishings, loving details. A villa with its own special atmosphere The small and elegant Villa Vier Jahreszeiten in Crimmitschau takes its visitors right back to the grandeur of the dawn of the 20th century. For six years, the villa, built in 1906 and which had stood empty until recently, was fully renovated, restored and lovingly decked out with the antique furniture of the turn of the century by Cornelia and Michael Gabor. Since August 2006, guests have been able to experience for themselves the ambience of the upper-class ways of life in bygone eras in a total of ten rooms – including one suite and two junior suites. The villa was built at the turn of the 20th century in the Historicism style, combining the most beautiful features of various artistic trends – such as splendid Baroque elements and the refined motifs of Art Nouveau Th e C a r pe t Ma g a z i n e 0 8 | 3 Villa Vier Jahreszeiten, Crimmitschau, Germany :: 4 | T h e C a rpet Mag azin e 0 8 Project Carpet Proprietor: Cornelia Gabor Occasion: Full refurbishment Location: Crimmitschau, Saxony Completion: August 2006 Target group: Tourists, wellness guests, Client: Cornelia Gabor business travellers Carpet installation: Raumausstattung Size: 10 rooms, 20 beds Kunitz GmbH, Werdau Category: 4 star de luxe Quantity: 870 m2 Internet: www.villa-vierjahreszeiten.de Quality: DP 1400 Cornelia and Michael Gabor came across 100-year-old tiles in the cellar, patterns from these are now repeated in the border designs “ It is increasingly difficult to get away from it all. Often there are only a few days or hours left to enjoy a rare experience. We do our utmost to make that precious time seem endless.” Cornelia Gabor, owner of the Villa Vier Jahreszeiten The Villa Vier Jahreszeiten is a hotel with a very personal touch. Who could be better placed to talk about it than the owner herself? The Carpet Magazine: How did the “Villa Vier Jahreszeiten” come to be put to its new use – had you always dreamed of opening a hotel? Cornelia Gabor: “No, not at all. My husband and I run the Spa Vital Center in Crimmitschau and actually, as things stood, we could not have said that we had too much time on our hands. The villa is right opposite the Center so everyday we were looking on as the magnificent empty building fell ever deeper into disrepair. At some point, my husband and I decided that we did not want to look on any longer”. The Carpet Magazine: And you decided to buy the villa, restore it and convert it into a hotel … Cornelia Gabor: “That’s right, although obviously, it was not as easy as it sounds. For us, it was absolutely imperative to take the historical features as our guide. That meant researching, planning and finding materials and furnishings … and at the same time keeping up with our actual jobs”. The Carpet Magazine: It was well worth the effort. Is it really true that all the furniture is original? It must have taken ages to collect it all. Cornelia Gabor: ”Yes, but that was precisely what was most important to us. Creating the ambience of the time, that is. Fortunately, Historicism is a mixture of different trends which made it comparatively easy to find, whether that was from private individuals, at auctions or from antique dealers, and we even discovered a few pieces in the cellar. Like the Villeroy & Boch tiles which are over 100 years old which are now in the conservatory”. The Carpet Magazine: And you used the pattern from them as a model for the carpet borders, didn’t you? Cornelia Gabor: That’s right. Incidentally the borders are the only element that runs through the whole villa like a leitmotif. Otherwise, no room is the same, either in the style of the furnishings or in the design of the carpets. Th e C a r pe t Ma g a z i n e 0 8 | 5 The Palace of Arts, Budapest, Hungary :: The changing and yet harmonious tone-in-tone dyeing of the carpets was achieved by using a single red tone repeated in five different shades of brightness A masterpiece for masterpieces! The name of one of Budapest’s most impressive buildings says it all: after all, the “Palace of Arts” was built specially to house and build up the country’s cultural treasures. The building is a masterpiece. The “Prix d‘Excellence 2006” award, the Oscar of architecture, is proof enough of that. 6 | T h e C a rpet Mag azin e 0 8 “ The Palace of Arts serves the entire Hungarian population, not just the inhabitants of Budapest. It unites and houses our cultural treasures.” Imre Kiss, General Manager of the Palace of Arts The “Prix d‘Exellence” is the highest tribute worldwide and is devoted to architectural developments which not only satisfy all aesthetic requirements but also combine quality and functionality. The award presented in May 2006 is proof that the underlying plan has succeeded: to bring different art forms such as the fine arts and the performing arts together under one roof. Since it opened in spring 2005, visitors from Hungary and elsewhere will find the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Dance Theatre and the National Philharmonic Orchestra in the Palace of Arts. In various multipurpose areas, constantly changing programmes of the most diverse range of genres are also on show. This offers budding young talented artists in particular the opportunity to introduce themselves to a large public. Incidentally, the carpet has been known to do the same, having been walked on by almost one million visitors in 2006 alone. When choosing it, it was essential to deliver a quality which was heavy-duty and at the same time would live up to the high standards of the building in terms of comfort. That has been a success – the carpet contributes to the overall impression of excellence, in the truest sense of the word, created by this artistic palace. The claret-red carpet designed by Halbmond in the corridors of the theatre also puts visitors in the mood for a gruesome evening. The particular appeal of the production lies in the balance struck between horror and comedy. Why not see the show – you are sure to find it gripping! Over 400,000 visitors were counted who also visited holiday destinations, cities and regions in the north-east of Germany in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern tent! That’s because the floor there was covered with a realistic carpet map of the state designed by Halbmond. All in all, an attractive and successful presentation of one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in Germany. Thirst for adventure :: Buckle up, close your eyes and away you go! A test of skill, a boost for their self-confidence or simply a bit of fun – that is what the 21 employees of HTW Design Carpet and their family and friends were looking for on 7 October when they congregated in the Teuto climbing park. At heights of up to 12 metres, they set about mastering various climbing and balancing activities while at the same time defying wind and rain. A totally new team spirit grew out of the experience which was further nurtured during the cold and damp barbecue rounding off the day. DOMOTEX 2007 Once again, the DOMOTEX is just around the corner and once again we will be there: ■ Our stand is in hall 3, in the floor forum, stand B47 ■ We will also once again be welcoming you at both Domotex main entrances with our four metre-wide and 80 metre-long bespoke Chromojet show carpet. What has changed is the design of the Domotex entrance carpet and the stand … as every year, both are brand new. But we prefer to let you imagine it for yourself. We look forward to seeing you there. That is why great importance was attached to the internal fittings when refurbishing the property to satisfy the highest requirements. Moreover, an atmosphere needed to be created in which guests felt at home. Interior architects from the Andreas “Why settle for less?” The Bilderberg Hotel Chain Neudahm Objekt-Design Office in Wuppertal and Tenbrink Objekteinrichtungen Office in Stadtlohn are responsible for creating this atmosphere. Both rely on Halbmond when it comes to flooring. By the end of 2006, new carpets from Halbmond were laid in nine of the twenty Bilderberg Hotels to be renovated. Others are at the production or planning stage. Since the aim for every hotel is to accentuate its individual features, a special design is being developed for each property.
