NACM Southwest
February - March 2015 NACM Southwest Get Connected Stay Connected The start of a new year is a time when we take stock of the past year and lay out plans on how to make this year even better. This is not as easy as it sounds, especially in the world of credit, where the landscape is always changing and may not be as it appears. For most of 2014 we saw an improving economy and credit environment with optimism blowing in the wind. But as the year wound down, here in Texas we felt the winds start to change as energy prices dropped…and drop they did! So while our economy is more diverse than it has ever been, this will still have its impact on credit in 2015, it’s just a matter of how much. With this unending economic uncertainty, going back to the basics can often be the best approach. NACM has the tools and programs that can help you do just that, from the comprehensive National Trade Credit Report to Industry Credit Groups to full collection services and more. What makes these NACM tools and services so valuable is because our members are an integral part of their success. One example of this is the importance of members contributing their accounts receivable data. It helps build a strong and timely credit report and for good customers to get a good report. It’s also important to note that NACM does not sell or give our member’s data to anyone...this is always confidential and only available to other members! Another area where our members’ participation is critical is Industry Credit Groups. The data shared is timely, relevant and can be critical in day to day credit management. And as important as this data is, it is often the verbal information and networking at the meeting which can be the most valuable. Please make every effort to attend your groups meetings…for yours and every member’s benefit. All the Best in 2015, Jay E. Tenney, Chairman of the Board Baker Hughes, Inc. Exam Dates and Application Deadlines This year’s Credit Executive of the Year is Denise Taylor, CCE, who is a true NACM supporter. She enjoyed and excelled on the journey from CBA to CCE. “Up and coming” credit professionals have benefited from the mentoring provided by Denise. She is always there to lend a hand to those looking for help in the credit department. Denise has chaired the West Texas Industry Credit Group in which she is heavily involved. She also attends and participates at meetings, and her input is invaluable. Her employer, City Pipe & Supply (Odessa, TX) supports her membership in NACM. Denise has also given her time generously to serve on the NACM Southwest Board of Directors. She took the giant step and attended The Graduate School of Credit and Financial Management at Dartmouth. The East Coast holds a place in her heart since her daughter recently relocated there, and her son proudly serves in the US Air Force.
