ANNE CATHCART 1946-2011 Saturday 23rd to Tuesday 26th February A retrospective celebration of Anne’s career as an artist progressing from her children’s book illustrations to watercolours of flowers and townscapes, etchings, woodblock engravings of animals and landscapes. Some of the engravings and cards that portray her paintings will be available for purchase. Profits will be donated to St. Wilfrid’s Hospice. Her inspiration is the natural world: small, framed pictures using collage and mixed media are juxtaposed with large canvasses in acrylic. She moves intuitively between representation and abstraction, with daring and a fresh eye. Sometimes in everyday life, you look out of the window; that is my inspiration. Sunsets, sunrises, people walking by; it’s all there to be seen. Nature’s wonders, the sea and the music still remain my true influences as well as the work of artists like Miro, Pollock and other abstract painters. It is a constant challenge and endeavour. This is just a beginning. Eva a member of the Sussex County Art Club, has received worldwide commissions and has work in private collections internationally.
