Q1 2015 Newsletter
April 2015 VOL. #1 ISSUE #1 Jackie Ventura Ventura Industrial Products, LLC “Change is the only constant in life” This is a great quote from Heraclitus of Ephesus – a Greek philosopher and advisor to Aristotle. (535-475 BC) As you may know I endured a great loss in 2014 with the escalating sickness and passing of my father. I was not able to publish my newsletter during that challenging period of life. But, as spring approaches, I am reminded that as we pass through the seasons of life, the only constant in life is change. While that was a difficult time, there have also been positive changes that have taken place! I have changed my company name to Ventura Industrial Products, LLC. And, I have hired some much needed office help, my sister, Gina Voisine. Gina has a great work ethic and has been a tremendous help. She was very instrumental in providing research and insight for this newsletter. The format of the newsletter has changed a bit as well. I have included a new section spotlighting the Fastener Distributor Index and changed my back page to a Fastener Fun Puzzle, because we all know how puzzling this industry can be. I thought I would make some fun of it and myself too. I hope you enjoy the new format and as usual I welcome any comments or suggestions. Principal News . During 2014 I have been fortunate enough to partner with some excellent companies. I now represent EFC International and Minneapolis Washer in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Please reference page two for a complete list of all of the Principals that I represent. I look forward to working with you in 2015 and assisting you with your fastener and industrial supply needs. Let me know how I may help you today! “Good character is not formed in a week or a month. It is created little by little day by day. Protracted and patient effort is needed to develop good character.” Heraclitus Figure 1Heraclit us Proud Member of the North Coast Fastener Association! The FDI is compiled monthly from survey input provided by qualified distributors. Results are published on Fully Threaded Radio by Mike McNulty of Fastener Technology International Magazine. A historical graph of the index is provided below. The FDI has been developed as a service to the fastener industry and to the wider business community it serves. All survey data collected is maintained in strict confidence and is compiled for publication in index form by The NFDA. No information collected or compiled through the FDI monthly survey is shared, sold or otherwise used outside the scope of the index. Registered users receive email reminders at the start of each open survey period. Users cannot login to the website except during open survey periods. Based on the chart below you will see that even though the index has declined we are still in a growing economy; 50 being the baseline. Anything above 50 indicates growth, below 50 is retraction. INDUSTRY EVENTS 2015 CALENDAR In February, the FDI remained above the 50 baseline point, coming in at a seasonally adjusted 50.4, but this was a decline from January, when we saw a reading of 52.3. The January survey indicated growth in sales employment, pricing trends, and forecasted continued growth for 2015. A positive six month outlook was also reported. Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are important for a number of functions in the body. They are found in foods such as fatty fish and certain vegetable oils and are also available as dietary supplements. Experts agree that fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids should be included in a heart-healthy diet, but there isn’t conclusive evidence that shows omega-3s have a protective effect against heart disease. 1. Experts agree that fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids should be included in a heart-healthy diet. Much research has been done on fish and heart disease, and the results provide strong, though not conclusive evidence that people who eat fish at least once a week are less likely to die of heart disease than those who rarely or never eat fish. 2. Omega-3s in supplement form haven’t been shown to protect against heart disease. Although there has been a substantial amount of research on omega-3 supplements and heart disease, the findings of individual studies have been inconsistent. In 2012, two combined analyses of the results of these studies did not find convincing evidence that omega-3s prevent heart disease. 3. Omega-3 supplements may interact with drugs that affect blood clotting. Omega-3 supplements may extend the time it takes for a cut to stop bleeding. People who take drugs such as anticoagulants (blood thinners) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should discuss the use of omega-3 fatty acid supplements with a health-care provider.
