Welcome to Summer Camp!
Welcome to Summer Camp! We are excited that you’re going to be a part of Woodward at Copper this summer! Please read this Registration Packet to learn everything you need to know about summer camp. GETTING TO WOODWARD AT COPPER Arrival Day is the first date listed for each session. This is the day campers either fly or drive to camp. For Snowboard, Ski, Skateboard, BMX, Slopestyle Mt. Bike and Digital Media campers, check-in is between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Cheer Campers are to check in from 2:00p-3:00pm. We request that all campers check-in by 3:45pm at the latest. This will ensure campers have enough time to settle into their dorm rooms before dinner, camp orientation, and skills testing. Check In Once at Copper Mountain, all summer campers (both Overnight and Day Campers) will need to check in at The E.D.G.E., which is our camper housing. Follow the Check-In signs and take Copper Rd. past two stop sign intersections. After the second intersection you will want to park in the Beeler parking lot on your right before the roundabout. The E.D.G.E. building will be located across the street, and Summer Camp check in will take place in the lobby. At check-in, campers will receive their room assignments, meet their counselor and roommate, sign up for camp activities, deposit cash in their “Camp Bank” or “Camp Store Credit Card Account,” as well as get their picture taken for their Camper Credential. Departure Day is the last date listed for each session. This is the day campers either fly home or get picked up at camp. All camp sessions wrap up after breakfast at 9:00am from The E.D.G.E. lobby. Unless prior arrangements are made, campers will be permitted to leave only with their own parent(s). Exceptions can be made if parents/legal guardians provide written permission for their child to leave with someone else (see Transportation Form). The Woodward at Copper employee will only be stationed at DIA from 10:30am to 1:30pm. o On Departure Day, all departure flights should be scheduled no later than 1:00pm. CONTACTING CAMPERS (for campers under the age of 18) We recommend that campers arrive with a phone card or cell phone. Be sure to plan for spending money as appropriate. *Please see the Summer Camp FAQ for further information. HOMESICKNESS (for campers under the age of 18) Many people, young and old, experience feelings of homesickness when faced with a new set of living conditions. Like many emotional expressions, homesickness is very contagious and must be recognized as such. Our staff is trained to handle these problems. Should a camper call and express feelings of homesickness, please notify us and we will work closely with you to alleviate the problem. Sleep-away camp offers an excellent opportunity for campers to learn how well they can manage without their parents and that other adults care about them. It has been our experience that it is more often the parents that are having a difficult time adjusting to their camper’s absence or overreacting to a camper’s early anxiety at being away from home. Check your own feelings about having a camper gone for an extended period of time. If you are not ready yourself, you may unwittingly make it difficult for your child to be away from you, consequently spurring feelings of guilt or feelings that he or she doesn’t have permission to enjoy himself or herself outside your view. Understandably, parents may feel helpless when they hear their child upset over the phone. Resist the urge to make promises about picking your child up or visiting. A visit from home interrupts their day, takes their attention from new friends and fun activities, and often spawns or exasperates homesickness. For more information on homesickness, we recommend reviewing Dr. Chris Thurber’s work at www.campspirit.com. SPENDING MONEY (for campers under the age of 18) Make sure to think about spending money prior to camp. Campers typically spend $50-$1,000 per week and sometimes more on snacks and souvenirs like Woodward t-shirts, hats, hoodies, sunglasses, Create-A-Skate, skate decks, and lots more. Remember if your camper is flying in and flying out make sure to set aside cash for baggage fees, unaccompanied minor fees, or prepay for these Airline services in advance. Cash Bank Account We have a safe and secure cash bank system set up at camp. Campers will be able to keep any cash he/she brings with them in our safe. We put the cash into an envelope and keep track of every withdrawal, as well as the camper’s bank total. The cash bank is deposited during camp check-in at the E.D.G.E. and is the best option for campers to have spending money good anywhere at Copper. *There are onsite ATMs for cash withdrawal Camper Store Credit Campers also have the option of store credit that is valid at any Woodward at Copper location, including Woodward at Copper’s Camp Store, as well as several Copper owned retail outlets. Parents can set any maximum spend amount and enjoy the flexibility of being able to increase spending limits with a phone call. They can also rest easy as the remaining balance of the camper’s store credit will be refunded at the end of each camp week, or by August 3rd 2014 at the latest.
