A Message from
Mayville State University President,
Dr. Gary Hagen
Dear Friends of Mayville State University,
Welcome to Farmers Bowl, MSU’s annual festival honoring the region’s agricultural way of life! Farmers
Bowl began in 1995 and has become an annual highlight for the entire area. It is fitting to celebrate our
agricultural way of life as we cheer on the Comets and support Mayville State University.
Your donations to the Farmers Bowl Auction create new opportunities for deserving students and help to
make a college education affordable. Mayville State University depends on the generosity of its donors
for scholarships and other awards. Your participation and contributions are appreciated very much. Your
philanthropy helps to ensure the success of the next generation.
Enrollment is looking great again this year! We’ve experienced several years of record enrollment, and we
expect that when the final official numbers are calculated in a couple of weeks, we’ll be very happy with
the numbers once again. We are very proud of our faculty and staff, whose hard work and dedication has
helped to make for a bigger and better Mayville State University.
Things are going well campus-wide, and we are in the enviable position of having accomplished all, and
even more, of the plains we laid down a number of years ago. The closest thing we have to a crystal ball
is a good strategic planning process. That process allows us to create the future. Our task during this
academic year will be to examine literally all the variables that affect our campus, our dreams, and our
resource realities to chart a future for Mayville State University that will be challenging, exciting, and beneficial to the campus, community, state, and region.
Thank you to our co-chairs for the Farmers Bowl, Lois Karlstad and Cheryl Angen. They have served on the
committee for several years, and have stepped up to lead the charge the last few years. They have done a
fantastic job! We appreciate their tireless efforts and continued support for Mayville State University. We
also thank auctioneers Wayne Trottier and Butch Lovas and the many other volunteers who work together
to make the Farmers Bowl a success year after year. This is a great team effort!
A big thank you goes to Lindsey Brown and Pifer’s Auction and Realty, Alerus, and Kelley Bean for their
sponsorship contributions to the Farmers Bowl Auction. When you have the opportunity, please be sure
to thank these folks. Because of their generous monetary support, this year’s Farmers Bowl activities will
bring even greater benefits to Mayville State University and its students.
Thank you for joining us tonight. I hope you have a great time and that you will bid high and often!
Sincerely,
Gary Hagen

HARVEST
of HOPE
Honor Scholarship
Every year, Mayville State University seeks
students from North Dakota and Minnesota
who are outstanding high school students.
Scholarships of $500 to $2,500
are awarded to these students to help them
with up to 40% of their first year’s tuition.
Can you help us GROW more
opportunities with the
Harvest of Hope
Honor Scholarship?
Every gift is important and all gifts will receive
a 50% match from the state of North Dakota!
Last year we were able to raise $15,000
through the reverse auction scholarship at
Farmers Bowl and 10 students received
an average honor scholarship of $1,500.
This year our goal is to harvest
FOUR MORE scholarships
and raise $20,000!
Please fill out a donation card
anytime during the evening.
Give it to one of our Farmers Bowl Volunteers
or bring it to the cashier in the foyer.
We will update you on the HARVEST
during the course of the evening.
Payment can be made at the end of the
evening with the cashier in the foyer.

Bidding Procedures
& Information
Registration
All individuals should register at the cashier’s desk upon
arrival. A bidding number will be assigned and final
instructions will be shared at that time.
Silent Auction
Each item has its own bidding sheet. When bidding on
silent auction items, place your bidding number, your
last name, and the amount of your bid in the appropriate
columns. You may raise your bid as often as you wish,
until the closing time is announced. All silent auction
items have a minimum bid-raise amount noted on the
top of the bid sheet. Silent bids may not be withdrawn
once submitted. High bidders may pick up their items
after they have paid for them at the cashier’s desk.
Live Auction
The auctioneer conducts the live auction and has the
final word on an auctioned item. Hold your bidding number up high when you wish to bid on a live auction item.
Sales and Certificates
Please read your catalog carefully! All trips, items, and
services must be used during the designated dates and
within guidelines. In the case of dinners by private
individuals, arrangements must be made so the times
will be convenient for both the donor and the auctionitem winner. These items must be used within one year
of the auction, unless otherwise designated. Some
auction items are represented by certificates for
products or services and must be presented to the donor to redeem the services or products. Please be sure
to pick up your designated certificate(s).
Payment and Pick Up
Successful bidders in the silent and live auctions should
pay for their items at the cashier’s desk. All items must
be paid in full and removed from the MSU Luckasen
Room on the evening of the auction, unless other
arrangements have been made. We accept cash,
checks, Discover Card, VISA, and Mastercard. All checks
should be made payable to “MSU Foundation.” All sales
are final. There will be no exchange or refund on items.
Good Faith Statement
Should any inconvenience arise, please call the MSU
Foundation office so that we may help resolve the
matter. Call 1-800-437-4104, ext. 34750 or

MSU Women’s Basketball Team
A mainstay on the campus of Mayville State University
for 85 years, the Old Gym helped create memories for
countless people. It served primarily as a venue for
college and high school games and was the place to
be for exercise and the occasional dance. After the
construction of the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse, an upper
deck was added over the bleacher sections in the Old
Gym to house the weight room. Later, the weight room
was moved onto the main floor and batting cages were
placed on the upper deck. In 2012, Mayville State
made the difficult decision to demolish this icon due
to safety issues. It will be replaced by a classroom
complex for the Division of Health, Physical Education,
and Recreation. This one-of-a-kind commemorative
piece to the 1929 Gymnasium features a 16”x20”
frame constructed of pieces of the original gymnasium
floor. Displayed on a double matte of Comet Blue and
White are a copy of an early architects drawings, the
actual 1930 Mayville State University Summer Bulletin
commemorating its opening, and an early picture of the
completed Gymnasium from an original negative.

It’s time to tell the world as phase two of our artificial turf campaign
begins! This great campaign, which began in the Mayville-Portland
area, now goes national! Alumni, friends and smart businesses
throughout the United States will be invited to help transform Mayville
State University and its athletic and HPER programs. Baseball, football
and softball will be elevated to a new level of competitiveness!
So far, we have raised nearly $400,000 in cash and endowment for
the fields. These fields will happen when every member of the alumni
team locally, regionally and nationally steps forward to do what each
of us can do. These fields of dreams can become our tribute to the
historic coaches who made those early years so very exciting.
Help support the coaches of today with a gift to keep our university
and our community strong!
Information packets are available tonight in the atrium and
you can also contact John Klocke at the Foundation at 701-788-4787.
