St. Croix’s white sand beaches beckon like hidden gems. European architecture
lies around just about every turn of the quaint cobblestone streets. And intimate
bed and breakfasts dot the coastline almost as often as picturesque windmills
and historic sites do.
ST. JOHN
Just a 15-minute ferry ride from St. Thomas, St. John is the land of luxury
resorts, world-class restaurants and gorgeous villas with unrivaled views of
turquoise blue waters. The pristine beaches on St. John are a special treat too,
as two-thirds of the island is preserved as a national park.

St. Thomas is the energetic and outgoing sister of the bunch with everything
from bustling shops, nightclubs, world-class golf and restaurants galore, to
parasailing, deep sea fishing and bargain hunting to your heart’s content in a
harbor full of duty-free shops, all clustered around top-rated beaches.

No one knows what it feels like to be in love better
than you. And no one knows what an island
wedding is like until they’ve done it themselves.
ADAM & APRIL
Adam and I met on the beach in
Cape Cod, so we always knew we
wanted to get married on a beach
somewhere. Neither of us had been
to the Caribbean, so we got really
excited about an island wedding.
We picked St. John because it was
exactly the kind of beautiful, idyllic
place we had imagined. And, since
it’s a U.S. territory, it made things
a little easier on everyone traveling
there. In the end, we had 42 of our
closest friends and family right there
as we said our vows—just as the
sun disappeared into the water. It’s
an old sailor’s tale that you can see
a green flash as the sun sets into
the sea. I don’t know if it’s true or
not, but our guests swear they saw
it. After the ceremony, we had an
amazing dinner. And everyone had
their own coconut to drink from.
After that, the local calypso band
we hired really heated up, and we
all danced on the beach for hours.

To make your fairy-tale wedding become a reality, visit www.visitusvi.com and download an
application for a marriage license from the Superior Court of the U.S. Virgin Islands. You may also
call 340-774-6680 for a wedding on St. Thomas or St. John and 340-778-9750 for a wedding on
St. Croix. After the Court receives a completed application, there is a required eight-day waiting
period. If either party is divorced, he or she must have a certified copy of the divorce decree or
a notarized affidavit stating when the divorce was granted. Additionally, please specify whether
the marriage will be performed by a judge in the Court or by a member of the clergy. The
combined marriage application and license fee is $200 ($100 for application/$100 for license).
If the marriage is to be performed by a judge, there is an additional $200 fee for the ceremony
and an appointment is required. Personal checks are not accepted.
