9/2 Knightwatch - Milwaukee Lutheran High School
KNIGHTWATCH September 2, 2016 FROM THE PRINCIPAL . . . Jesus Redeems Us Adam Kirsch I have to admit that I am somewhat of a penny-pincher. I am cheap. I am frugal. Sometimes I get chastised for it by those closest to me, but it does not bother me. However, I also often forget to use the coupons I have saved or the rebates that are available for something I have purchased. My use of effort and energy to try and save money results in no savings. My best intentions remain unfulfilled. The theme for the week is redemption – the action of gaining possession of something in exchange for payment. This week we meditate on and celebrate the redemptive act that was carried out by our Savior Jesus Christ. The payment for this transaction was not monetary, but paid for by His own blood. Through that sacrifice, we now belong to Him. He takes possession of us. As great as my intentions to save money are, sometimes it just doesn’t happen. How great is it that we have a God that never fails on his intentions? His plan from the very beginning was to send a Savior for his people. He doesn’t discount us, but rather paid top price for our souls. The value of our lives is worth everything to him. In humility, we now have the opportunity to worship our God who requires nothing out of us. He has already done all the work that needed to be done. Through His redemption we have nothing to prove, but everything to give back. We are the ones that ultimately receive the reward. He has purchased us, but gives it all back directly to us. We live our lives in the knowledge of His amazing mercy and action of the cross, trust in his unfailing promises, and belief in the power and love of Jesus Christ. 1 UPCOMING EVENTS . . . 9/05 NO SCHOOL – Labor Day 9/07 Meet the Teacher Night, 6:30 pm 9/14 College Readiness Night, 6:30-8:00 pm 9/19-9/24 Homecoming Week 9/24 Homecoming Dance 10/3 Homecoming Dance ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES . . . Greetings, We are off to a great start this year! Staff and visitors alike continue to comment about the exceptional behavior of our student body; so, let’s keep up the good work! Our new ‘out-of-sight and out-of-mind’ cell phone policy is working tremendously well. As a reminder, students are not permitted to have their phones on them during the school day for any reason unless approved by a school administrator. As we begin following through on this change, we have noticed other area schools also turning to ZERO tolerance phone policies. These are great steps toward improving the learning environment! Now is also a great time to remind our teachers, staff, parents, and students about some of our policies regarding tardiness! Tardiness remains a leading factor for job termination in the United States and as such, we take punctuality very seriously at Milwaukee Lutheran. Students must be on time to class, no exceptions; this also means on time for the start of the school day. Here are a few reminders: - Students must arrive to school and be in our building by 7:45am to allow enough time to get to their locker and then to their first hour class. Students have 4 minutes to get between classes. Disciplinary measures are taken on a student’s 4th tardy to school and on a 10th tardy to class. No excuses! I look forward to watching our young people grow as the year continues. As always, please email me or call with any questions regarding dress code, policies, or procedures! The yearbook staff can even create the ad for you if you prefer. If this is something that you are interested in, please email or call Mrs. Janousky at rjanousky@milwaukeelutheran.org. or 414-461-6000 ext. 271, for more details or to reserve your space.
