Ministry Formation Center - Hybrid Model
A bold and exciting opportunity for ministry formation is coming to the San Fernando Pastoral Region.
Two parishes at opposite ends of the region, Our Lady of Lourdes in Northridge and Incarnation Church
in Glendale, are pooling their resources and using high-tech resources to make quality faith formation
available to parishioners across the San Fernando Valley.
Using video-conference technology, both locations will have some onsite learning, with presenters
available at each parish venue. Additionally, a substantial portion of the program of formation will take
place "virtually" during the Summer months, allowing people to participate in the learning process from
wherever they can log on to the internet. The great advantage is that people will choose where and
when they can participate for themselves.
This blended model promises to be a wonderful addition for time-strapped catechists and other parish
ministry leaders who struggle to be in the same place at the same time for a prolonged season. This will
allow people to make a commitment to being present together for a few weeks physically, and then to
take advantage of technology to pursue virtual participation on their own time.
How is this formation center different from a traditional center?
This center will require that you participate online as well as in person.
What computer requirements are necessary to participate?
You will need basic computer skills; the ability to access and use the internet as well as
a basic level of comfort with online communication.
What will the online portion of the class include?
The online portion of the class will include reading, discussion boards where you will
interact with others in the class, short videos, written reflections and quizzes. The
assignments will run on a weekly basis and you will have access to the virtual
classroom on your own schedule.
What is the time commitment for the center?
The onsite meetings are 2 hours and will require about 1 hour of work at home/online
during the week.
The online portion over the summer will require, on average, 3 hours per week.
