Come enjoy musicians, storytellers, magicians, puppeteers, and more. We’ll be drawing, singing, eating, and creating so don’t miss out! You will also have the opportunity to read books and win prizes on your own. We hope that all of these activities will encourage your love of books and reading. Be sure to register for the summer reading program and pick up your game board at the service desk. For each 20 minute block of time that you read, color one square on your game board. At each milestone (200, 400, 600, 800, and 1000 minutes) bring your reading log into the library and pick up your milestone prize! Registration begins Monday, June 27 Happy Reading! Science Rules! Breaking the Buoyancy Bubble Monday, August 8—Friday, August 12 3:30-5:00 pm Open to students in grades 3-5 Instructor: Joe DeBell Investigate the phenomenon of buoyancy! We’ll make clay boats, explore the differences between objects placed in salt water and fresh, and challenge ourselves to build boats capable of holding a variety of weights. Toward the end of the week we will construct a hydrometer in order to compare the levels at which objects float. Sponsored by Friends of Wadsworth Library. Registration is required. Sign-up begins June 1st Summer Storytime Programs Sing, Sign, and Play Tuesdays from 10:00—10:30 am July 5, 12, 19, 26 and August 2, 9 This six-week session is recommended for babies 6-24 months old and their caregivers. Each class is 30 minutes long and has a weekly theme. We will use music, books, and playful activities to help hearing babies and adults learn simple ASL signs while having fun. This class will be led by certified Baby Signing Time instructor Linda Schmackpfeffer. Registration is required. Sign-up begins June 1st. Sponsored by Friends of Wadsworth Library. Toddler Tales Wednesdays from 10:00—10:30 am July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3, 10 The Toddler Tales program is a blend of Books & Babies and Preschool Storytime activities. A variety of stories are combined with songs, rhymes, finger plays, crafts, and free play. This program is appropriate for children ages 2-3 years old. Registration is not required. Preschool Storytime Tuesdays from 10:45—11:15 am July 5, 12, 19, 26 and August 2, 9 Wednesdays from 11:00—11:30 am July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3, 10 Preschool storytime is for children ages 3-5 and includes books, poetry, music, finger plays, crafts, and free play. Registration is not required. Summer Reading Events *Starred events are made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Council on the Arts and administered by Livingston Arts Center, a member-supported organization. Summer Reading Kick-Off! Monday, June 27 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm Come register for the summer reading program and enjoy face painting and balloons! Open to children of all ages. Story Walk at the Temple Hill Oak Grove Thursday, July 7 from 2:00-3:00 pm We will run, skip, and jump through the oak grove as we “story walk” through Storm is Coming by Heather Tekavec. The oak grove is located off of Temple Hill Rd in Geneseo, adjacent to the cemetery. Look for the balloons! Open to children of all ages. Sports & Fitness Magic Show Monday, July 11 from 2:00-3:00 pm The "Sports & Fitness Magic show” with magician Cris Johnson is a funfilled, interactive program of magic and comedy for children. Open to children ages 3 and up. Sponsored by Friends of Wadsworth Library Homespun Community Dance* Thursday, July 14 from 2:00-3:00 pm A foot-stomping, hand-clapping good time! Live music played on traditional instruments such as banjo, fiddle, and pennywhistle will get dancers of all ages up and moving as they learn about the history and musical traditions of different cultures. Storyteller Cris Riedel* Monday, July 18 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm Spend an hour relaxing and listening to some wonderful tales told by local storyteller Cris Riedel. Open to children ages 3 and up. You’ll experience something both traditional and modern as you listen to Afro-Caribbean percussion, found instruments, even trash cans and auto parts. Open to children ages 3 and up. Yoga for Kids Friday, July 29 2:00-2:30 pm Children in grades K-2 3:00-3:45 pm Children in grades 3-6 Come join us for a child-friendly yoga class incorporating breathing, movement, affirmations, and relaxation. This class will use children's books to guide the yoga movements and encourage body awareness, strength, and balance in an empowering way. Class taught by Lindsey Greco, Radiant Child Yoga Certified Teacher. Please bring a yoga mat or towel and wear comfortable clothes. Registration begins June 1. Space is limited.
